What Does Cozy Mean To Me?

If you have quilts in a linen closet or blanket chest somewhere, I say bring them out. Throw them over a table or fold at the end of the bed. Or, like me, hang it on the wall. I’ve made many quilts over the years. I like to look at them. They aren’t perfect. They wouldn’t win any prizes for design. But I put love in every stitch.

I’m not a decorator. I just know what works for me and what makes me happy in my home. There are various styles of decorating. I call mine “cozy.”

What you see in my house is not out of a magazine. This house is very much lived in. I surround myself with things that make me smile. For instance, this plate I bought off eBay for a few dollars. I have it hanging in this room where I type because I simply love to look at it.

Cozy is a mood. It is candlelight and lamps and trickling water fountains. It is old jars and buttons and things you pick up because something about it speaks to you. And you take it home and find a place for it.

Yes, I have another blog, View From The Pines, where I primarily talk about gardening and nature. But that’s not all I’m about. I also love to dabble in the house, rearranging and fiddling with doodads. So I thought I’d bring that part of me over here to Cozy Little House. This way, if you aren’t interesting in decorating, you won’t find me mixing it all up. I’ll try and take my creative urges to reuse old dish drainers and such over here! I’ll bring you “decoupage days” when I walk around with glue all over my hands. When I just feel the need to snip out old images or decorate the lampshades with my glue gun. And of course I’m bound to bring you a blossom or two!

Because there’s nothing quite like flowers to get that cozy feeling going! And I decorate the outside too.

So feel free to give me feedback on what kinds of posts you might be interested in seeing and reading. Remodeling, crafting, new uses for old things, display, rearranging the furniture.

Oh, and put some pretty little lamps in your kitchen and turn them on for ambiance. Overhead light is like using the flash on your camera. Just makes it a bit too bright.

  4. I’m reading blogs and looking a lot. I never used to care much about decorating, but now I’m fascinated. I’ve been getting the paint color swatches, scads of them. That’s my first job at the new house, well after getting repairmen in for the air conditioner and bath renovation. You can see I’m going to be busy. :)

PS- I am leaning toward the background yellow of your blog for my entry hallway and office.

  5. Brenda, like you, I love decorating. Actually, I love decorating more than I love gardening. But gardening did give me an excuse to decorate outdoors! I know you saw my kitchen remodel on my gardening blog; maybe I should take your lead and start a decorating blog. But when would I work? I’ll add you to my reading list!

  6. A house full of things you love is a wonderful thing! A friend of mine is making me a quilt soon – I bought the material and she is sewing it for me (lucky me!).

  7. What a wonderful new blog! Good for you for surrounding yourself with the things you love and that make you smile. I will look forward to reading more about your Cozy Little House.
