This morning I decided to switch quilts above our bed. With some of the quilts I have made, I have added a “muslin envelope” to the back with hand-stitching so the quilts can easily be hung on a drapery rod on the wall.
Over the past year, we have purchased the JC Penney Chris Maddon bedroom furniture collection online. We have the black bed, tall dresser and two night stands. I am very pleased with the quality of these pieces.
I like the elegant curve of the headboard. The embellishing of the wood.
The clear lamps with white shades on the night stands also came from JC Penney.
I did not sew the two quilts on the bed. My dogs sleep up here, and occasionally a cat, so I want durable linens that are machine-stitched that will hold up well being washed over time.
I did quilt the two cat wall hangings that are on either side of the quilt just above the bed. Many years ago, when I was first beginning to quilt. They aren’t the best of my quilts, but I love them because I was still on the “learning curve.”
I also made this bow tie quilt. Obviously I am quite enamored of bright colors!
The nightstands are just the right size for this room. I spend a lot of time reading in bed every night after my shower.
My husband’s medical books are also stored here in the bedroom bookshelves. The ones he doesn’t use at his office. In medical school you go through lots of books!
Unfortunately this room does not have a window. You see, this is a garden home. And my garden room was once, I understand, a patio. It is now enclosed and this meant the bedroom became windowless. But I make do with lots of lamps. And I had the walls painted this bright cheery yellow about a year ago, to remind me of sunshine.
At night I retire here fairly early in the evening, often with clothes in the washer and dryer. I lie down and read a book or catch up on magazines. It is a ritual I cherish, for it is a time of relaxation and the transition to sleep.
One’s bedroom should be a tranquil place. Yes, mine is full of color. But it is a comfortable place for me. There is no “throwing of clothing on the floor.” I am one of those compulsive people about such things. This room is always tidy and ready for the next night’s slumber.

Brenda your bedroom is so beautiful and vibrant! ~Lovely changes as well.
The quilts, colors and new furniture, I love it all! The walls are the perfect color for a windowless room. I have to imagine that you dream in technicolor in there.
♥, Susan
I love all of the wonderful colors you use in your room. I can see how it would be a welcoming hug walking in there each evening.

you have so much colour in your house! i’m looking for a simple, fun design for a quilted play mat for a friend’s baby. I like the cat one.
A perfect setting quilts and books! And nothing like a few dogs and cat to warm the place up
.
Evening, Brenda! Oh, I love your bedroom – your bedroom furniture is so lovely. But those quilts! They’re beautiful. You’ve made some pretty ones. The little cat wall hanging is just adorable!
Be a sweetie and thanks for popping in to see me.

Thank you for sharing your room with us. The colors are all strong but so wonderful. I love your quilts. You did an awesome job on them!
Hi Brenda,
Your bedroom looks just as I would have imagined it with the bright colors and well put together too. I think everyone should surround themselves with whatever colors they love. Wow, you’ve got so many books. My husband would love your home as he loves to read each night too… can’t remember the last time he skipped a night. Love the cats quilt, but you know me and animals. Happy day!

You’ve brought lots of light in with your colors, so I don’t even notice there’s no window. I love the way you’ve decorated with your quilts!
Quilts can a home make. And that one folded at the bottom of your bed, ohhh, that one looks a peace of heaven. And you make quilts! What a gift you have. Did you make that one?
Your bedroom is lovely. I love the quilts and the furniture is great. It amazes me that you can make those intricate quilts. We are wanting some black furniture. Glad to know you like the Chris Madden furniture. That’s what we have in our dining room.
Pretty quilts! I love the lamp as well:)
Have a lovely day:)

I love this room! There is something to be said for a windowless bedroom. Light, even a miniscule amount, keeps me awake, and since the sun comes up very early now, I wake up with the chickens whether I want to or not.
I used to use quilts on my walls a lot when I was a single mother, and living in rental property. Not being allowed to paint always made me crazy, and colorful quilts on the wall always made the place so much homier. Using old quilts kept me feeing connected to my family, even though the “home” was not really my own.
So you hand stitch all the quilts you make? I have a lot of squares my mother had pieced by hand, but I don’t have the patience to sew them together that way?

beautiful tweaks – love the bright colors
I don’t think I need to tell you how much I love and admire those quilts
