Kitchen Banquettes Save Space

red diner kitchen

I have always been enamored of kitchen banquettes. Reminds me of old time diners. I found some for us to view. The first one, above, would be ideal for kids or grandchildren. Wipe down surfaces!

I like the comfy big pillows below.

The next one rather reminds me of a fence. I’m not sure what style this would be. Modern?

This one is cottage crisp in every detail.

Looks like old church pews here. Love the green paint.

kitchen banquette 3

This one is nice and cozy.

The large round mirror on the wall complements the round table used in the next one.

What’s so nice about this concept is that it doesn’t take up much room.

And you could create a banquette in so many different ways.

You could put one in a little corner like this.

This one takes up just a wee bit of square footage.

This one is nice and cottage-eclectic.

The one below appeals to me because it looks as though you could just get an armless loveseat, put a table in the middle, and add a bench. You’d have yourself a stand-alone kitchen banquette!

Do you see one that appeals to you? I may just do this in my house one of these days.

More than a few of these pictures look familiar as I have been researching banquettes for a awhile now.

It is just one of those things that hubby just dosen't feel the need to get started on.

Guess it will have to be one more project that I start and he will just have to finish... he he.

Forgot to mention that I want one in the corner with beadboard bases (lift top seats)and a bead board back. Of course there will be BIG pillows and the seat cushion will be 4-6" box cushion with curly moss fringe on the top and bottom seams. The fabric will have red, maybe checks.

It will be more of a "sofa" so that I can sit there and read, talk, work on the laptop... while hubby cooks dinner.

I have a good imagination... don't I?!

It's funny, Brenda. You know you're getting older when you look to see which banquette has the most padding, and that's the one you like! LOL! The thickest cushion wins with me every time!

Sheila :-)

Fabulous banquette's. I love the cottage one & the one with the big fluffy pillows the best.

I like the one that you like...of course! It looks simple and easy to slide into! I love the bright colors in some of the others though...the cottage reds!

Hi Brenda! Lovely pictures and I wish I had a banquette with a really big thick cushy bum seat! Shoot! I thought you were going to say that your Builder Robert was building you one!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

When we were looking for our first home to buy I found a house I fell in love with that had a little kitchen nook like these. I wanted that house so bad but they did not take our offer)-:
I always wanted one of my own. Those are all great in their own ways!!! What a homey feel they add to a room!

Aren't they just the cutest things.
No room for one here tho.
But a great look I always admired

I like the 5th photo from the bottom. The white with the little wooden table.

Also the one with brick wall and glass table. Looks kinda like the table I have in my kitchen now.

While I was gone you got a new look. I love it. I love red blogs!! They are the very best to look at!!!!!

They look so homey and inviting, but I wonder how many of them are actually comfortable.

I think banquettes LOOK wonderful, but am I the only one who hates scooting in and out of them?

On a better note, I, too, LOVE the new look -- it's happy and cheery like we count on the Cozy Little House to be!

My home being so primitive country, I'd have to say my favorite is the one using old church pews. Great selection of pics, enjoyed it.

Brenda, I have been loving your decorating posts. This one was really special because I grew up with a banquette in out kitchen. The seat was upholstered in pumpkin colored naugahyde and the table was a big white oval simulated marble. It was a very fond memory...my Mom was into modern and this was a good minimalist spot for the kitchen (pretty much as cozy as our house got).

I like them too - great inspiration pictures! I almost put a corner one in my kitchen but then decided against it as I really don't have space for a table. So I put a window seat in instead.

Yoou made over your blog and I LOVE it! Though I loved it before, red is one of my favorite colors and this is darling!

I would love a tutorial on how you get the wall paper behind the page!

BTW Your style here always makes me want to decorate up a storm :). Just lovely taste that you have.

Hi Brenda
I agree that the last one would be the easiest one to duplicate. I remember growing up my aunt had a banquette and all us kids would squeeze in there. Wonderful memories of laughter and good food.

I love these! When I lived in Europe, we had one and it was so space saving. I really want to try it again. We are going to do a re-model of the dinig room, nothing big, but have been thinking of doing the bench/table again. Or I might put one in the kitchen. They really are wonderful to have and they even come with benches that can be used for storage...very handy!

Growing up there was a kitchen banquette in my grandpa's home. I still have fond memories of sliding in on the bench for dinner. Thanks for reminding me.

Finding this post was like hitting the jackpot! I have been searching for the pefect bench seatting to fit our kitchen. This was perfect. My only question is, should I adjust the height of the bench to allow for a 3" or 4" foam padding? Thank you.

In two of our homes my husband made us banquette's but it was a necessity to sit all the little butts around the table. Now that the little butts are bigger we can fit in their significant others and grandkids. Yeah we are squished in, but we are together.
