Happy 4th & My Computer Crashed

It happens to us all at one time or another. On Thursday after I wrote my Welcome Wagon Friday post, my computer crashed. It was nighttime, and I told myself, don’t panic. You can call Buen, the computer guy who fixes my computers, in the morning.

Lo and behold, Buen is in London until the middle of the month. I can’t even begin to explain how rattled that made me. Or perhaps you’ve been in that situation and already know. The thought of not being able to access my photos and use my camera to post seemed unthinkable.

And so I ordered a new computer, feeling the need to upgrade some programs anyway. But it will be at least a week or more before it gets here. I guess I’ll twiddle my thumbs until it arrives. The FedEx guy or whoever delivers it better place it at my door and make a run for it, lest I tackle him in my enthusiasm to get to it.

How is it we become so pathetically lost without our computers?

So now I’m on my husband’s computer, posting this with Blogger, which I’m sadly not accustomed to. If all the paragraphs run together, you’ll know why. I’ve been using Windows Live Writer for over a year.

I probably won’t post much from here, due to the fact that I can’t access WLW and my photos. I will try to keep up with blog reading. But may be “out of action” in terms of writing posts for a bit.

Everyone have a Happy 4th of July holiday!

  1. Hi there Brenda, checking in after a bit away from the net. Crashes are no fun, but new pcs are :-) . Lots of changes on your blog, lots of catching up to do! Hope your holiday is dry & happy.

    Best,
    Julia

  2. Hopefully the new toy will arrive quickly. They are connections to our own little worlds. Have a great 4th.

  3. I know exactly what you mean when they crash. I hope you get yours soon. Have a Safe and Happy Holiday.

    Willow

  4. I’d go through a withdrawal without my computer for a week or more. Hope your new one arrives quickly!

  5. Well yuck!I know how that is…mine crashed last year! Just went blank one day and never started up again! No fun at all!

Well enjoy your time without a computer – I got a lot done when I was without one!

    Manuela

  6. Brenda, sorry to hear about the computer crash. Hope the new one arrives quickly and gets you back in action. :-)
Have a terrific weekend! ~ Sarah

  7. I know how you feel! This computer I use has been a lemon, for sure. It has crashed 3 or 4 times. Luckily we purchased the Geek Squad plan when we bought it and they have repaired it at no cost each time. I’m just always so afraid of losing more pictures.

  8. Hi Brenda and sorry to hear about the computer. I am sending you a wish for a very happy July 4th and may your computer problems be a thing of the past!
    Tina xo

  9. I have definitely been there, Brenda! And it is not fun. Hang tough. This, too, shall pass. But I know how you feel, my friend.

    Happy Fourth to you!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  10. good luck with the new computer!!

  11. Happy 4th to you Brenda !
I am sorry about your computer, that hurts…
I can go without it for a bit of time but its my life line,I will never be without one again.
I will email you with the update, lots of interesting stuff happened.
    Diane

  12. I’m having computer issues too and I’m having to use a cheap laptop that skips letters when I type. I don’t have access to my pictures either.
Congratulations on the new computer. Mine is under warranty, I’d sure love it if they just replaced it.

  13. Oh, Brenda! Take a deep breath and don’t worry ~ everyone will still be here when you get back. This is part of the drill when it comes to technology. I remember when Blogger was having difficulties in the Midwest about a month ago ~ I was going crazy!!! Couldn’t post OR comment. But at least you can comment and visit all your bloggy friends. Love this vintage image; so patriotic! Happy 4th of July!
    xx Suzanne

  14. Well the silver lining will be the new computer but I know how you feel! Our internet went down last week for a few days and I was so antsy! I count on using it to look up information so often I felt lost without that ability. I’m still trying to catch up with my blog friends. Have a wonderful holiday Brenda and hang in there!

  15. I suffered terrible anxiety when we were here at the lake, last month and had NO INTERNET!! Oh the horrors!

One of our TV’s isn’t getting satellite signal this trip…the good one, wouldn’t you know, but no worries. My daughter said, “Mom you aren’t as upset about the TV, as you were about the internet!” Well….of course not!

    Happy 4th of July, Brenda!

  16. Hi, Brenda!

So sorry to hear about that nasty computer crash. I can’t wait to see your latest pics!

    :) Laura

  17. It’s funny how addicted we have all become to our computers, the internet & blogging. What in the world did we do before these things? lol. Sorry to hear about the computer. I’m lucky, I have a son who is a computer genious. I don’t know what I’d do without him.

  18. Oh poor you!!! All will be well my friend…just think you get a new computer out of the crash…yahoo!!! Happy 4th of July to you. xoxo

  19. Brenda..you will be missed. Hope the computer comes fast!
    Wendy

  20. Oh, no!! I’ve been right where you are! So sorry to hear your puter bit the dust but glad you’re getting a new one! Have a wonderful 4th and be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  21. Hi Brenda:
Sorry about your computer. (Can I hear “Taps” playing?) Hope you have a happy Fourth, relaxing with family, critters and friends. We’ll be having a cookout early afternoon with musician friends, and then we’ll all head an hour north for the last of four concerts this weekend.
    xoxo

  22. Oh Brenda! These little machines can be so doggone confounding! Had my laptop die last October. Luckily I back up frequently so I only lost a few things. What did you get? I hope you can make it through the next few days.

  23. So sorry to hear about the crash, but look at the bright side… A NEW COMPUTER! YAY

    Enjoy your week-end.
    DI

  24. Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my laptop doesn’t die on me and you have just reminded me that I haven’t backed up my photos and files in ages. Better get to that now.
Good luck with the pc withdrawal symptoms!

  25. We do love our toys don’t we? Glad you have a new one on the way. Since I had foot surgery I have had to use my husbands lap top and I cannot get to my pictures to post either! Hopefully I will be back to posting pictures soon! Have a great 4th. I was just in Texas the first two weeks of June. I had forgotten just how hot it was there!

  26. Oh man…I hate it when that happens. I did have to laugh though thinking of you attacking the delivery guy with your new computer! funny!
Have a great 4th my friend.
    Hugs to you!

  27. Sorry for the crash, Brenda. Hope you’re back and blogging in a wink. Happy 4th.

  28. It’s hard to deal with, almost like a best friend has gone and moved away.

Hopefully it will be back soon, hang on.

    Jen

  29. Ugh! Brenda that sucks. My thoughts are with you that it arrives quickly. I’m thinking I’m going to order a new computer today as well. An early birthday gift to me from my hubby.

    Happy 4th! ~Melissa :)

  30. So sorry to hear about your computer Brenda. I had a crash a couple years ago. My son was able to salvage everything and I’m still lovin’ my new computer. Except now I would like to downsize to a laptop and get rid of some of present equipment. It’s always something! Hope you’re up and running again real soon. ♥

  31. Oh and Happy Fourth of July – what I dropped by to say in the first place! ♥

  32. Happy 4th of July dear Brenda!! So sorry to hear about your computer crash.

    Love,
    Susan and Bentley
    xxoo

  33. Oh my Brenda I am hearing so much about everyone’s computers crashing that now I am nervous.
So glad you had your hubbys for a back up.
I wonder what causes them to do that.
It is very strange how dependent we become to our computers.
Never would I have guessed even being on one much less meeting all the wonderful people out here in blogland. Especially one like you. Your a doll
    Love
    Maggie

  34. Not fun when the “puter” is down.
    Joyce

  35. I was in your shoes last week. (By the way, when I commented on blogs from my husband’s computer, I found out I was identified as “Anonymous”).

It was as good of time as any since two of our grandchildren were here and it kept me from stewing over the inconvenience of not having my own computer.

I’m now typing on my new laptop. It is equipped with Windows 7. Libraries are closed so I can’t get my “Windows 7 for Dummies” book to help walk me through the puzzling icons.

Hope you are soon up and running!

  36. Hey Brenda,

I hope you had a great holiday weekend. Thanks again for the welcome wagon shout out and for sending all those visitors my way. I really appreciate it.

I didn’t realize that was your cottage in the July issue of RH. Congrats!! I have an ad in the back under Olive Rue. How funny. :-)

  37. SO sorry to hear it! I know you will love your new one but loosing the old is hard! Enjoy your new one and give delivery guy a hug if you knock him down it may harm your new computer ;) hehehe
    Hugs, Lisa
