Today new furniture arrived for my husband’s man-cave living room. (Just in time for football season, of course.) I don’t decorate in his room. He leaves my garden room alone. It’s just best that way.
So, to make room for a humongous brown sectional that would not have been my choice, I got a piece of furniture in my garden room that I’m very pleased about.
Remember this red sideboard I got at an antique mall months ago? Well, now it finds its home here. (I know it’s kind of hard to see back there. And the skylights are casting light on the glass too.)
I bought the photo/poster from Jen of Muddy Boot Dreams. Jen takes the most beautiful photos! She also has a blog called Bluoom just smack full of blue images that I truly love to visit.
So to accommodate this sectional, I came out the lucky recipient of a new corner I’ve just now arranged.
I searched the house for something with red in it to go above the beloved blue and white print. And came up with this Fanny’s Rest Stop sign I had in the kitchen.
What do you think of the arrangement? Do I need something else here to balance things out?

Looks great to me Brenda. I am glad you came out on the good end. That is one big sectional he got.
You know, I’m laughing out loud really.. because… what is it with MEN and BROWN SECTIONAL SOFAS??? Especially the ones that have DRINK HOLDERS built in!..
I think you’ve done a fine job with that corner. Nothing feels unbalanced. If anything, just for fun I would either change the pillows on either side of the couch to add a contrasting color to the scheme, or change the quilt (meaning color) over the back of the couch. HOWEVER.. it also looks wonderful the way it is and I love your use of red, as I’ve said before.
Brown sectionals do indeed seem to be a man thing. Although I imagine they are quite comfortable.
. I’m off to visit that blue blog you mentioned.
I think your new arrangement looks great as is. The only suggestion I might make is perhaps adding some of that lovely blue to your red and white on the sofa. Maybe in the form of pillows. Now you might know as a blue lover I would suggest this
Love all the jugs together with the red shutter behind it. Perfect Brenda! You are so not afraid of colour and i love that.

Looks great! I just love the cute red shutter with the whit pitchers in front of it.
NOthing like a new BIG BROWN sectional with cup holders none the less to balance out the REDs…te-he… Such the good spouse you are…. What is it about sectionals and men.
Kate
WOW! I adore the sectional Brenda. A large comfy leather sofa is just plain awesome to me. You did a great job on the room. Your home is beautiful in every way!
Why did I think you were single?
I’m guess I’m confused by one of your previous postings.
Have a wonderful week.
~Melissa
I love the sweet arrangement AND the brown leather sofa! It looks comfortable! Can I come watch a game? I am a HUGE Dallas Cowboy fan! lol How bout them Cowboys! ♥
It’s darling as is but live with it for a few days and if it’s not “right” you’ll know and then come up with some other arrangement…you’re good!
That sign is just like one I have hanging over my sink that my daughter got me but mine says “Smiley’s Rest Stop – Eat Here and Get Gas”….doesn’t yours say “Fannies”? That’s funny! Great minds think alike!
P.S. I guess I thought you were single too….hmmmm….why I thought that I don’t know but I did.
Good job, Brenda. You need no help in the decorating business. Everything always looks great!
I think your little corner looks just perfect!
And my husband has some big, black pleather sofas that he brought into the marriage a few years back. They could almost be a twin to your hubby’s new pride and joy.
But you’re nicer than I am, I made him put his in storage.
Have a great week!
Anne
How funny! It is definitely a man thing. My son (19 yo) suggested a few days ago that we should get a brown leather sectional. I told him he could have whatever he wanted when he got his own home! I think your corner looks great Brenda. You definitely do not need assistance in the decorating department. Since I love blue, I am off to check out blu oom.
Have a lovely evening.

I like your new corner! Looks liek you with all your colors represented! Enjoy your new look!

He falls asleep in it every night.
Have a sweet day.

Brenda, what a treat, I have just come home after working all day, and there is your email. You perked me up immensely.
I love what you have done, but then, I love everything that you do.
And, yes, what is it with men, and brown….
Jen

Everybody wins… love it when that happens.
The thought of you going off in search of something red tickled me… you have so much to choose from
I think the arrangement totally rocks! Love the red.
Men and their brown furniture.. Pffttt… they have not one iota of style in their heads.

Several years ago my husband bought a big dark recliner for the bedroom. No space! It now resides in the tv room. I don’t know what he was thinking.
Your corner looks great. Everything you do is beautiful! I’ve been cleaning and rearranging all day. Jet lag is hell but I did get about 4 hours of sleep before waking at 5:30 am. Can get a lot done when you wake up early.
Best wishes for your day. Tammy
You are a great decorator Brenda and you always inspire me wih your ideas!
I love the look!
Cindy
The sideboard looks perfect for that corner. I love that you each have your own space, ha ha. Men are so funny about furniture. We have a recliner that will not go away.

You did a terrific job! It is a balance, a give and take – love how you’ve worked it out to what makes both of you happy! Just love your red accents,
Kathy
Very nice, Brenda! You both found a happy medium there….Christine
Isn’t it fun rearranging? I love what you did. Looks great.
Hugs,
Donna
I love your print. I’m glad you have your garden room to escape the hideous brown sofa.
Brenda, How truly lovely your home is, and how fun is it to share it with us. There are so many inspiring ideas to come away with to apply to my own home in sad need of decorating. I see that we both have Charlies! Mine is not well behaved, but cute as can be! Such a fun visit. Thank you for visiting me! Elizabeth
The only thing missing from that beautiful little area is me…sitting on the sofa, sipping a cup of tea with you. I filled a smaller den in the house with a brown suede sectional…it literally wraps around 3 walls of the room, the big screen being on the 4th wall. It is my husbands heaven, and we all love to take in a movie or baseball game in there.
You display things wonderfully…love the pops of red.
I think you have just the right combination of texture and color in that area. Such a beautiful red antique find to work around. Love the handles on it, too.
Maureen
A garden room and a man cave – sounds like the key to a happy marriage! My husband wants something like your big sectional for our movie room, I’m trying to find a compromise! Rachaelxx
Looking good! You do a better job than myself. My husband has a very large brown recliner in the living room too. I have not found a way to decorate around it, but I am still trying to figure it out.
I think you did a great job incorporating the man sofa. You know, I won out on our sofa when we remodelled and it’s slick and modern and white and, don’t tell my husband I said this – not that comfortable. I think I might prefer to have your husband’s sofa to lounge and watch movies!
It looks great my friend…I soooo love your red!!! xoxo
What a sofa!!!!
I love those red quilts. I have a few but they only come out for the 4th of July and Christmas.
That sectional is definitely man-size. I’m not showing my husband. He’ll want one too! Mimi

Brenda,
I smiled about the brown leather man mindset. Jack has the big leather stuff too.
You did a great job with the room. Your red and white quilts are beautiful. Thank you for the comments about my feed sack quilt. It is one of my favorites as well.
Carol
I want to live in the man cave!
Thank you so much for your nice comments!
I’m crazy about the red shutters! I love old shutters. I have stacks of them in the old coal room behind the garage. I can’t pass them up. That said, of course I love your new corner!! Now about that sectional … ah men!! That’s all I can say about that!!
Lots of love,
Susan Bentley

PS: You changed your font! Brenda you are one gutsy gal. I’m thinking about changing to a new template, but I’m a big chicken!!!
Awesome blog, I enjoyed visitng. Love to find someone else who loves red!
Bristol
Brenda, your garden room is divine! The new arrangement is really great…what a grand find that red piece is, and I’ll bet you are happy to include it in this room instead of the man cave. Have a great day! ~ Angela
I love it as it is, Branda!!! How lucky you..
cariños
Cupholders!! I wish we had those in our sectional. I’m sure he’s going to be very comfy on the big ‘ol sofa!
I like the new arrangement! It’s like getting a new room when you get to move things around!
Manuela
Hi Brenda,
Instead of the sign, how about 3 small plates in a row…2 red patterned ones on the ends, with a blue one in the middle? I think the plates would tie in nicely with the white pitchers you have on the table below. Just an idea!
