Decoupaging With Old Calendars

As I’ve been going through closets and drawers and such, seeing what all I need to part with and what I yearn to keep, I came across this box I decoupaged with cut-out calendar scraps years ago.

I put it on the red hutch for now. But it’s definitely a keeper. I’d forgotten I had it.

Before you discard old calendars, take a second look to see if you might recycle some of the pages. I used an unfinished box with a lid, and painted it white.

Then I just snipped these pieces out with scissors and used Mod Podge to adhere them to the box. And added clear coats 3-4 times to coat it.

I liked the thickness of the pages. They were easier to work with. And I’ve had it probably over ten years. Now I’m going to utilize it and show it off!

  21. That box is great, Brenda, and will fit right in with that farmhouse style you are aiming for. My aunt makes envelopes from her old calendars. She always has really cute ones; hard to find good ones over here. Hope you are having a good day. :) Tammy

  22. Red. Makes you happy. With love.

  23. You are taking me back to my college days in the early 70′s. We “mod podged” everything.

  29. Great project Brenda. I bought a couple extra calendars for 2011 just to use for projects. sorry for the terrible typing, i only have a tablet to use right now and I hate it

  30. I have a few decoupage projects I did up in the loft, I even did a large screen.. Mine would look very dated now. Yours however, still looks fresh and up-to-date and fits in so well on the red hutch x

  31. Beautiful!.. definitely a keeper.

  32. I love those kind of finds! I have a small treasure trove in my basement of some of the things I couldn’t part with. What a fun find! Decoupage….I haven’t done that since the 70′s…I always wondered how it held up over the years! Using a calendar is a great idea- there are some great quality pictures on them!

  33. I love it! You have brought back memories as I used to decoupage everything when I was a teen. I think I will put it on my list of hobbies for this coming winter! Great idea to recycle old calendars!
