Candle Warmth

It's been another cold wintry day. So dark I lit the candles to feel a bit of coziness.

I guess we just equate candles with warmth. With home and hearth.

One of these days I am going to learn to make candles. And soap. Always wanted to learn that as well.

Maybe pick up some yeast and ingredients for bread and fill the house with the unparalleled aroma of baking bread. Nothing better. Cut a slice, smear on some butter. Melt in your mouth good.

While the gray days continue. One moving right along after another. Barren winter branches, stark and looking forlorn.

Gnarled and twisted into scattered patterns against the sky.

But it's nice and toasty in here. My steady and loyal companions are with me. And that is contentment.

Good plan. Candle light, and I am guessing with some lovely scent too, in your wonderfully decorated home along with you furry little ones makes for a pretty good place to be right now.

Very nice and toasty warm post. I have always wanted to be able to make my own things, but as I got older, I am just as happy to find a source for hand made items and buy them. But a loaf of fresh baked bread does sound awfully good. xo

We have sunshine coming through the windows today, it feels wonderful! Your house looks cozy and wonderful, I think I'd curl up with your little companions and read a book!

Brenda,

Your photographs are exceptionally beautiful today. Something about the golden hue of them is appealing to me on an emotional level.

I could just curl up in one of your comfy chairs with a good book and lose the entire day!

Your blog is eye candy to me!

I love candles and have lots of them. I just need to actually use them more often. I love to make soap, altho I haven't made it in a few years. It's actually pretty easy.

I've made both candles and soap. One year it seems that I was making candles almost everyday. They were made in milk cartons. I put a colored tapered candle in the middle of the milk carton and filled the rest with crushed ice. Then poured hot wax down through the ice. It turned out to be a candle with many holes in it. I also whipped wax and "frosted" my candles. Everyone got a candle for Christmas that year.It was so much fun and the candles were really pretty.
Your house looks so cozy.

Candles are old-fashioned and nostalgic, two things that I love!

We had kind of a gray day here, too, Brenda, after waking up to some snow on the grass and rooftops. I don't mind them so much if we can get sun a day or two before and then after. I like to light my candles, too; it seems to take that "chill" feeling out on the cloudy days.

was that a muffin/cupcake tin you had candles in? i think it was. super cute. it has been rainy today here in virginia. so sad looking. i know we need rain but i miss the sun. maybe snow? we will see??!! (:

Colder here too and I enjoyed your candles. We are not in the habit of lighting candles because our old house is made of fat lighter and would go up in a flash.

Looks very warm and welcoming, those pups are so cute! It makes me think of my grandson, he wants a doggy so bad!

Sounds nice, Brenda. I love a cozy warm house when it's cold and gray outside.

I love how lit candles transform a room Brenda, definitely cozy! I love that tray filled with all the different size pillar candles, so pretty!

LOL! I am munching on my own fresh-from-the-oven whole wheat bread, as I read this post. :)

That's a very pretty picture of your lit candles Brenda. I have made candles before. Very fun to do. Soap (and least not the melt and pour kind) is something I'd love to try, but I've never tried that. Sure looks like it would be a lot of fun. Hope you're having a great week.

I too have always wanted to make soap and candles. I do make the bread all the time and I love that and I love candles especially the highly fragranced ones that make the house smell cozy.
Your little dogs are so cute. I always think of Toto from the Wizard of Oz when I see them. Where would we be without our wonderful companions. They are my family.
Have a great evening and stay warm and cozy!

I so love candles but they are pure torture for me to breathe around for very long.

Thanks to technology, I can use (and love) the battery operated ones. The tea light size comes in colors that are good to use. And larger ones that look like real candles are pretty cool too. Now I can 'burn' them on the patio without worrying about something catching on fire when a little ornery kitty gets too close to the patio table (ok, he gets ON the patio table).

Your house looks cozy as always. I love to have candles lit in my house, especially during the colder months. Enjoy your day ~ I think I can smell the bread from here!

HI Brenda! I too, love candlelight and usually have one burning. It's kinda nice to have the power go out and I pull out the candles.
Be a sweetie,

Another grey, dreary day here also. I also light a candle many times in the evening during the Fall/Winter months.
Were you able to get your garage door opener fixed?
Stay warm.

I love candles and their nice cozy feeling. I hardly ever burn any though since I have too many mischief makers at my house and we'd probably end up with a fire. I think you should make some bread, Brenda. I can just imagine the smell and see myself eating the whole loaf :)

I love candle light. With you little one I have to be careful these days so I use a lot of the candle lamps.
We are just sunny again around here. I am afraid we are never going to get rain.

I love what candles do for a homey feeling too. I love the way they freshen the house a little.

Huge candle fan myself! Just brings a glow to the whole house. It reminds me of looking through rose colored glasses. I'm a hopeless romantic.
Sure love your wood floors!

I always have a candle burning if I am home. Bath & Body has the best scented candles - you should try one.
They are better than Yankee!

Your home is so cozy and I love that. In the south we have not had a winter, only a couple of freeze days and a few freeze nights. It's like spring here and I miss the winter! I do love the way you decorate! Hugs, Lynn
