Lollipop Pillows Debut

...Once upon a time, twenty years ago, there was a quilter that attended quilting bees. At one of these meetings, she saw her first old Singer Featherweight sewing machine. They are small but very sturdy. She was enthralled. But the prices for them were way out of her budget. For they are much sought after.

Then a few years ago, she was in her local sewing machine repair shop, and spotted one of these gems in his crowded little shop.

She could not afford the $350 price. But the owner, an older man, let her put it on layaway. After several months time, she was able to pay it off and bring it home.

I will always remember the man who sold me my beloved machine, though he has now died.

I sit down at my sunlit table covered with red and white oil cloth, and magic seems to happen with this little work horse. It is my inspiration, for it just keeps on keeping on. Day after day.

As dusk falls, and I lose track of time, I am sure passersby on the street catch a glimpse of me through the window sitting here, hunched over my old Featherweight. Humming a tune to the dogs to keep them entertained just a little bit longer.

And here, right here, this old 1947 Featherweight and I create whimsical creations together.
_____________________________________________________

Each of my pillows are made of my own design from start to finish. This line is called The Lollipop Line. I named them this because of the many colors, and the flowers reminded me of lollipops from my youth.

Each pillow is filled with new fiber fill and stitched closed. The pillows are sewn with a double seam for strength. They are made to use horizontally or vertically.

The flower embellishments vary. The ones with fabric have had their edges treated with No Fray.

The felt and fabric embellishments were hand sewn on after the pillow was made and stuffed.

I plan to design and sew other lines of pillows and various things for the home. Decor that would fit into any cozy little house.

This is the day I've been busily stitching for. I hope the bright cheerful colors brings a smile to your face.

Gail @ Faithfulness Farm said...

Brenda -- they are fabulous little cuties!! I fell in love with the featherweight machines too. My girlfriend growing up in the 1970's had one that belonged to her grandmother - WAY before they became all that's vogue with the quilting crowd. I always drooled over it and so badly wanted it -- totally coveting. My old friend visited me from Virginia last summer and one of the things we talked about in that long weekend was that sewing machine -- she has NO idea whatever became of it. Makes me sad to think of that since I would have treasured it but that is how it goes :)

Enjoy your sewing time :)

Blessings!
Gail

Congratulations and best of luck, Brenda! I see you've sold quite a few today and I hope that that pace keeps up for you. I get caught up with what I'm sewing and wind up losing track of the day. I've taken to making myself sew an area or section, then stop even if I just get a drink of water, so I can check the time. I've been up later than I've wanted to be some nights!

There once was a seamstress named Brenda,

Who sewed pillows all day by the winda,

She put them into her shop,

And out the door they did hop,

Helping her meet her money-making agenda.

Hip, hip hoo-ray, Brenda!

I just had to stop by and CONGRATULATE YOU!!!!
Those pillows flew right out of your shop and that is so wonderful. What a great way to start your day! I think it is safe to say that you are going to be so busy that you won't have too much free time for $ worries. I looked among your comments and it appears that there are many people waiting on the next batch. I nearly missed out today, too busy reading blogs and saw on another blog (she is one of your followers)where your shop was open. I made a bee line straight to your etsy shop and sure enough 2 pillows had already sold.....I couldn't hit the keys on my keyboard fast enough!
I hope your next post is about burning the midnight oil.

Brenda!

These pillows are so happy! I love them! Glad to see that your happy spirit is back. I need to save a little money and put some cash on my little credit card that I bought from the grocery store. This way I don't use my personal credit card and the item is paid for with cash. My goal is to get a pretty scarf from Claudia and some of those pillows from you! Congrats! I have never heard of a featherweight sewing machine, but then I don't sew much these days.

Your pillows are beautiful! I too have one of those old Featherweight machines. I don't now why but I associate the name to mean it's light weight - although you know it's not. My machine was bought in 1941 or 1942 I know because my mother used it to make my brothers baby clothes. One day I was trying to find some setting instructions on the internet and I looked up the serial number on my machine. It said my sn was manufactured much earlier than 1941. It had something to do with WWII starting and them not delivering the machine heads or something. Anyway I think they are marvelous and I'm so proud to have one. Mine is in mint condition. Good luck on your creations. Tres
