I'm not much of a TV-watcher. I just don't care for the line-up of shows the past few years. I'd rather get out my laptop, sit in my comfy chair with the dogs and an afghan spread over us, and read blogs. Now that's fine entertainment to me!
Movies, books and such are always available at your local library. I made use of the library the whole time my kids were growing up. I loved going there and being in a quiet place. And taking my kids for story time.

I adore books. I very rarely buy them. It's easy enough to sign up to review them for book publishers and book review sites. That way you get your book free. And then you can pass it along to your friends or family.
I enjoy the outdoors immensely. Walking and taking photos is high entertainment for me. With cropping, sometimes I can get two or three photos cropped from just one. Whether it be birds or trees or just something that catches my fancy, I'm quick to raise my camera to catch a quick snapshot.
When I'm feeling particularly inspired, I use a little gas and take a drive in the country. I love taking photos of old barns and livestock. But I'm very conscious of gas prices, so it's not as often these days.
I love rearranging vignettes. I can while away hours moving things about and achieving a new and fresh look in my rooms.
I love sewing. So sitting down at my 1947 Featherweight Singer and creating something new is fun for me.
I keep favorite magazines around to inspire me. Sometimes when the stack starts getting high, I'll tear pages out and put them in notebooks so I have more of what I love to look at in one easy place to find it.
In warm weather, I like to create fairy gardens. You can do this in containers big and small. It's fun to get the grandkids involved as well. Make up stories about your little fairy world.

simple, honest knack of entertaining yourself. I think it is becoming a dying art! love your thursday blog! jennyx
I feel the same way sometimes. I am really a homebody too. I agree about there not being much good on tv at the moment. Where have all the good shows gone?
TV? What`s that!
I love visiting you :)

I'm more of a homebody, too, Brenda! When I go out it is more to get supplies or something specific and I try to combine my outing making stops along the way. So I may go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels for some craft supplies and then on the way home hit the food store.
I'm with you on the library. I would go a lot when I was a young Mom, to get books and have the kids in the little play groups they would do twice a year. The first thing I did when we moved here was go to the library and get a card!
I feel the same way too!! I love to stay at home!! It's true there is no place like home.I try to make one trip to do all my errands.Everything is close by.

AWWWKKK...TV today is awful. tooo much FAKE reality. More people should enjoy the comforts of home. My daughters and I would play board games, especially scrabble. xoxo, Susie(She Junks)
Oh how lovely. I agree 100% too! I am a homebody too, and there is no place I would rather be, than home.
I missed your candle post too. Loved it!
I'm with you all the way. Loved this post! I'm happy to say that I'm a homebody as well. My husband and I love being home the best, along with our little dog, Jinx. That's what makes us happiest. I love the way you decorate your lovely new home. Love your photography. Love your vignettes. You take care of YOU.
I love what you said at the beginning..."I'm easily entertained."! That describes me, too! I love living life to the fullest AND I love your fairy gardens! Can't wait to see what magic you make this Spring in your new home! ♥
You know I am with you on the homebody issue. I would hardly leave given the choice but the kids get me out more often. Such a pretty post. Love all your pictures.
I get up every morning and look so forward to reading your blog Brenda~yours is my very favorite..I also love candles and fairie gardens and love to be in my cozy home more than anything else...I am lucky I can be because my husband has NEVER wanted me to work...he loves his home and I LOVE him...we will be married 39 years in July this year~time has flown by way too fast!! You make me happy and feel all warm inside just reading your blog everyday!!!God Bless You!! :-)
Good points. Being out with nature...working in the garden, taking a walk....all low cost, high dividend.
I love...maybe a bit too much...reading blogs. So many beautiful photos, and good tips.
There are tons of things to do that don't cost a lot of money.
I couldn't agree with you more! I LOVE staying home. And t.v. is terrible except for PBS, I do like that but like you I enjoy the blogs more than t.v. and I learn something from them all the time! Yep, a little baking, a cup of tea, some needlework, some candles and/or a fire and a few great books and/or magazines and I am one happy camper! I can't wait to make a fairy garden this Spring though...that's something I've never done! Great post, Brenda!
The simple things are the best...and they're usually free!

"It's easy enough to sign up to review them for book publishers and book review sites."
Whaaat? I have honestly never heard about this! How do you sign up?
You've painted a picture of a peaceful contented life. Simple pleasures are the best. (I'm with you on the TV thing.) I'm looking forward to your garden!
I'm really enjoying this series - good tips from everyone! I love the shot of your fabric, very pretty!
Brenda I sent you an email re: my link.
All amazing ideas! I too love to be home and read. I do watch TV and I love movies! Spending time with my family is the best way to be entertained!
Brenda,
I like to be at home too. I can amuse myself for hours at a time. I do like to go to the yarn shop once a week and knit with the ladies. I like to think that after all these years and the changes that life has given me, that I have created a cozy and workable environment where I am quite content. I honestly have to say the the computer has had a lot to do with this feeling. I get wonderful ideas, recipes, book recommendations, etc. and I am leaning how to do so much.
Good post.

As a library board trustee, I think you for the excellent library plug!! In addition, many libraries offer free entertainment from local musical groups, movies that don't usually come to local movies houses, book groups, etc. If your local library doesn't have what you'd like them to, make a suggestion. It's such a cost-effective use of your tax dollars and a savings on your entertainment budget.
Best,
Bonnie
I intertain myself in much the same way. Just came in from sitting out in the dirt taking pictures of my garden gnomes and my fake turtle, Waldo and a few wildflowers. Sure wish I were the expert photographer that you are! But, these less than perfect pictures will probably be my next post, which is my latest intertainment - blogging!
I hate when I spell words wrong - wish we had a quick way on here to correct them!
Betty
I love to go places, watch movies, visit with friends, etc., but truly there is no place I'd rather be than home. Sometimes when I'm out I find myself looking at the time and calculating how long it will be till I'm back home. I.Am.Never.Bored.At.Home.
I agree with you about "home" being your favorite form of entertainment...it's very cold here today and I believe I'd like nothing more than to light a candle and just look around, contentedly enjoying some "me time"....but alas, I must go to work. Enjoy your day!
so many interesting things in the world, i don't have time for tv or to be bored. i use the library alot and like reading favorite blogs or finding new ones. good posting filled with ideas, much enjoyed.
I like your free/nearly free entertainment list. I guess it boils down to doing things we really enjoy doing.
I especially like the last idea involving a pan of brownies!
LOL - it's amazing how much time one can waste just moving vignettes around. I'll just stand there and look and look, teak, and look some more. Then I look at the clock and three hours have gone by!
You and I are so much alike, do you think we were twins in another life? :) Reading books, blogs, sewing, rearranging the house (if only in my mind at times) - all grand forms of entertainment. Thanks for sharing the things you love to do along with great photographs. I'm still waiting for a Canon Rebel to drop in my lap. Hugs ~ Mary
I love being at home too. I get my entertainment from reading blogs and magazines. I do love to take drives and photograph the scenery and old barns. You should check out Barn Charm at Bluff Area Daily http://bluffareadaily.blogspot.com/2012/02/barn-charm-71.html
There are many photos of barns linked up there every Tuesday
You have the right idea, I'd rather not go any where. Love to be at home, but it seems two or three times a week there's some errand or meeting
that takes me away.
The weekend is almost here...have a fun one, Hugs, Maki
One thing I've taken advantage of lately is the Senior Center! I'm taking a water color class and a drawing class, both by the same lady, and she is amazing! The price is fantastic! And the other ladies I'm meeting and their skills are beyond belief! One lady showed her stuff on Martha's Vineyard last year and won!
And of course, the internet has created so many possibilities for us in learning: yesterday I watched how to paint water falls. And as for knitting, it has answered a myriad of questions for me!
I'm also taking a Conversational Spanish class at the Adult School, along with my daughter. I figure it is good stimulation for my brain!
My daughter plays with a symphony orchestra at the jr college and they have concerts 2x every semester, and they are wonderful. I encourage people to check out their local colleges for concerts, whether you like plays, jazz, classical, they are all available!
I do love reading blogs and commenting, but I leave my tv on and I am not even watching it~that is just wasteful. I have to get better with keeping it off. xo
I am at home digging in my garden or snuggled up on the sofa with a good book. We never go out at night and I seldom drive at night just because we are homebodies too. I do like Downton Abbey on PBS very much but that is it for TV besides Big Bang Theory which we just started watching. We have only about five channels anyway. Ironing vintage linens is fun for me too. I have never understood those people who ask me if I get bored staying at home, being recently retired, because I never do.
How wonderful so many of us love being in our homes. I know I do. I am also lucky to have the job I do where my home is where I work. I love being with children and watching them at home makes it even better.
Aren't we all lucky to have warm cozy homes to live in. (Even if my roof leaks)
Another great post.
I love being at home too Brenda, and can find plenty of things to do to entertain myself. Now you have me craving a cup of coffee and a brownie:)
Brenda
I, too, believe there's no place like home.
I think you are a throw back from the generation of women who delighted in and found contentment
in making their homes a welcoming haven for themselves and others.
Great post!
As a librarian, I am thrilled to hear so many of you talk about using your local library. Don't forget to vote for them and tell your representatives. Right now we (I am a librarian) are being called a "non essential service" by our local government. They have no idea, of course, about how BUSY we are given the state of the economy. Thank you for supporting your local library district.

Love you blog and so look forward to reading it each day. It's like we're talking over coffee! I love to read to and you mentioned that you review books for publishers. Can you share a site or how you go about signing up? Would love to do this.
Do you ever check out Pinterest? I could stay on it all night. I get some great tips, recipes, and creative ideas. Right now I'm working on making another journal...got that idea from youtube. You've named some great ways to have fun while spending very little if any money. Thanks for sharing.
It seems I enjoy my own company hehe so I don't require lots of outside stimulation. That's not to say I don't enjoy getting together with the girls or going to dinner with friends but it's not a requirement to fulfill my entertaining needs. I love reading like you Brenda, and walking around my farm with my dog, feeding the chickens and horses is the best entertainment one can find.
Definitely my kind of entertainment. Except for the sewing because that is beyond me, but I will definitely crochet the day away. And since it is a very blah, dreary day here, that's just what I am gonna do. I might even put some brownies in the oven. Have a fabulous Friday! Tammy
Lovely post Brenda, and so true. Like you I have most of what I need to entertain me right here already. Knitting yarn is my one vice, but even that is put to good use as I often knit gifts that otherwise I would buy or clothes that we actually need. A happy homebody, that's me, and clearly you too :D
What a beautiful post - and I feel the same way about my home - it's my favorite place to be. I love this series by the way :).
Just like you, I'd rather be in my warm, cozy home that any place else. And there is only one show on TV that can take my attention away from blogs and that is Revenge. Love reading your blog every day.
I agree. Home is the best place for me. I am never bored. I read, work on the computer and sew. I do have to goout and search for vintage finds for my Etsy shops, but I try to limit that more now with gas prices being so high.
Laura
Brenda,
I just came across your blog and what a treat. I also live in Oklahoma, so it was fun to find another Oklahoman here in blog world. Love your blog.
Trine
this was an amzing post, I loved all the pictures, now Im on a mission to find a wire basket to hang over my toilet!!!! LOVE your blog!!!
Your post is wonderful today. Words, pictures... thanks for making me smile - and reminding me that Entertainment, like Beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
Lovely! I like the brownies and hot drink part! :)
Oh and the blogs...
I’ve always been more of a social person but have started staying in as an attempt to fatten up my wallet. I’ve since picked up the hobby of making crafts and added Blockbuster @Home to our existing package from my employer, DISH. Between making fun art, décor, and jewelry as well as getting my movie fix every single night, I don’t miss going out. I have saved a ton (no late fees and it’s way cheaper than paying per movie) and now have more to spend on the few nights I do go out.
