The Cricket & The Wheelchair

I wanted you all to know that Judy took me to see the surgeon yesterday, and things are healing nicely.
I can now begin to walk more on crutches. And in a month, if the x-rays look good and more healing has occurred, he thinks I can get out of the boot!
But of course you are wondering about my title: The Cricket & The Wheelchair…
Last night I saw a cricket hopping about the kitchen. Let me just preface this by saying that Charlie Ross has a phobia about bugs of any variety.
He was, thankfully, in the other room. In my wheelchair, I swung around the kitchen trying to catch that cricket before he caught on to what was going on.
Since I very much doubt you’ve ever chased a cricket in a wheelchair (what are the odds?), let me just say it wasn’t easy.
And all the while watching the kitchen door to make sure Charlie wasn’t coming in.
Finally, and miraculously, I did catch the darned jumping cricket. I cradled it in my hand till I could get the back door open and toss it out where it belonged.
Oh, what relief! And Charlie was never the wiser.

  1. anything is possible, and you just proved it..your little pooch has such a sweet face. Glad to hear you are coming along.

  2. So happy to hear that you’re doing much better Brenda, great news! So funny with your cricket story. I almost stepped on one at least 3″ long on my kitchen floor yesterday morning. First one I’ve seen in the house in about 20 years.

  3. A cricket is a sign of good luck to a certain culture, where they keep them in a tiny cage in the house. So hopefully “Jiminy” brought some along with him while he was visiting! Glad you got good news at the dr. xo

  4. I had a dead one on my floor this morning. Bet you had a time getting yours. Glad you’re on the mend. Cute story!

  5. Freedom! Well, sort of. I have a hard enough time catching a cricket on my two good legs and can’t imagine how you did it in a wheelchair! ~ Maureen

  6. That’s my Charlie!!!

    Judy

  7. I’m like Charlie Ross…I freak out over crickets (and grasshoppers)! You really have that wheelchair thing down pat! I’m so glad you are improving and that you will be up on both feet soon!

    XO,
    Jane

  8. I’m so glad to hear your good news Brenda. I hope that month will go buy quickly for you.. I hear that you’re having HOT weather again.
I wish I could have seen you catching the cricket.. Fur baby Moms have to do all kinds of things for their babies, don’t they..
That is such a cute picture of (I imagine) Charlie.. He’s a handsome little fellow..
Your zinnias are beautiful.. I know they lift your spirits..
I cut a bouquet from my front yard this morning. They are really blooming nicely.. I think that is the one flower that I will plant next year..
Take care on those crutches. Best wishes for a great September..
    Hugs,
    Charlotte

  11. Brenda, so good to hear you are doing so well! Hope you are back to normal very soon!

  12. Great save, Brenda! It is interesting what we end up having to do sometimes in the privacy of our homes. LOL!

  13. I can just envision you spinning around in that chair chasing the elusive cricket! That’s funny about Charlie Ross not liking bugs. He sure is a cutie. And of course that’s fabulous news about your ankle! Soon you’ll be out and about with your camera providing us with more of your wonderful pictures for fall!

  14. glad it wasn’t a big fat hairy spider! xo

  15. Glad to hear you are healing as should. I can’t catch a cricket on my own 2 feet. :D

  16. Brenda, I sure know that being in a wheelchair isn’t funny…but you chasing a cricket is.My mom used to laugh at me, because I could not stand if a cricket got into the house.I would have to find it. So happy to hear you are healing from your injury. xo, Susie

  17. I am so glad to hear your great news about your healing ankle! Arent our little fury friends funny with their with phobias! Just like the awesome Mama you are wheelchair or not you saved poor little Charlie Ross the stress! I giggle at the thought of your wheelchair zippin around after the kitchen! Thanks for the smile! Glad things are looking bright!

  18. Brenda, I’ve been gone for over a month and am so pleased to return and find you healing nicely!
You are right, I’ve never chased a cricket in a wheelchair :)

  19. So glad to hear that you are doing better. Thank goodness that you got the cricket so that Charlie wasn’t stressed out.

  20. I was so afraid you were going to say you had an accident with the Wheelchair and the Cricket!!!!! Glad to hear good news and glad to see that beautiful/handsome face!!!!

  21. So glad to hear that you are healing nicely. And so glad to hear that you caught the cricket and put it outside! I always catch any sort of bug that gets inside and put them out, I cannot bear to kill any living thing, even a bug. Well, I should say “almost any living thing”–I do kill fleas, and ticks (can’t have them on my babies), and I kill flies and ants, because I simply can’t stand them in my house. But nothing else, not even spiders, I catch them and take them out. I am glad you saved the cricket, and glad Charlie wasn’t traumatized.

  22. Whooo hoooo so glad you will be out of that chair! And so thankful you are healing well too! Oh those darn crickets can really drive you mad!
    xx
    Anne

  23. I’m glad to hear you’re successfully on the mend, Brenda. Well done on the cricket hunt!

  25. Yay to the good news! So glad you are healing nicely. Now the mental image of you chasing a cricket in a wheelchair just made me smile!! xo Linda

  26. Those darn little critters…not sure what they are here for but… that green picture holding the flowers is super cute.

  27. .. just curious.. what exactly would your little pup do if he saw the bug?

  28. Glad to hear you are healing nicely and that the darn boot should be coming off soon! Too funny that a dog is afraid of bugs – I would think that he would try to eat them instead!

  29. Hi Brenda!! Before you know it you will be up decorating your home for fall and showing us all!! I can hardly wait…so happy to hear your good news today and hope no more crickets come in to bother you and your sweet doggie!!! Will keep happy thoughts for you to be up and walking soon!!Take care!Love ya!! Carol

  30. I’m happy you were able to move the cricket outside. I’m sure it will be happier out there. Good karma!

  33. I have trouble catching them with 2 good legs. Great Job Brenda. Charlie looks nice with his short hair. Glad he didn’t see it too. You don’t need to chase 2 four legged creatures. So happy to hear you are healing well.

  34. Whew. I thought you were going to say you fell out of your chair, or you banged your foot into a cabinet. Be careful, you are in the home stretch.

  35. Oh so glad to hear your are healing nicely.
    xo bj
