In the mornings when I let the dogs out, it really seems that fall is truly nipping at our toes. By noon, the air conditioner is cranking. We’re in that strange “in between.”
I thought I’d show you what I did yesterday with that $10 garage sale wooden ironing board I recently acquired.
In case you haven’t figured this out, it’s in the dining room.
Well, isn’t that where you’d put a wooden ironing board that has an accumulation of stuff on it that has nothing to do with dining?
Really, nothing has any relation to anything else. Other than the fact that it caught my fancy and I plopped it there. Amazing how we do that, huh?
Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it Abi & Charlie Ross? Sure it does.
I just wonder of the tales this old relic of an ironing board could tell…

Hi Brenda…I love what you did with the old ironing board!! You have such talent you amaze me!! always looks so nice too however you move things around…do you see how owls are really popular again?? I bought a cream colored ceramic owl you burn a candle in in Bath and Body last week and I just love it!! I use to collect owls…oh no!! can;t get into that again!! its addictive…Have a great day Brenda…love ya!! Hope you are still on the mend and doing better!!! Carol
Hi Brenda,
I love your old ironing board. I acquired one years ago and have used it as a sofa table, side table in my vintage trailer in Florida, and as a buffet table outside. I like what you did with yours. Glad to see you and your fur babies are doing well.
Hugs,
Connie, IN/FL
very creative and definately lovely.. you did GOOD~!
What a beautiful piece of wood used in that ironing board!! I love those quirky decor items, “somebody” we know has real problems with such “out of the box” decor. Guess it’ll continue to be one little piece at the time.
Brenda, I love to see all your deocrating goodies. please send Claudia greetings from me..blogger isn’t letting me see her posts. Thanks friend, Susie
I’m delighted to hear that you’re able to let the dogs out, by yourself! Things are looking up, Brenda.

Hi Brenda.
It looks really great right there with all your homey bits on it. It seems like you are getting around a bit more which is great. Hope you are close to having that cast off.
Oh if walls (and ironing boards) could talk!!!
XO Kris
That’s a gorgeous old ironing board, I love it. Funny all of my life, and I have never seen one, seen some pretty old iron ones, but not wood.
Could you imagine trying to iron on that ? It’s hard enough with the new ones.
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
Looks good!!!! I have my Grandmother’s wooden ironing board that I learned to iron on and it is all I have ever used! I also have my mother’s metal one that I have never used, and is 1960 or so and like new! I never even thought anything about the fact that I use an old board, I just iron!!! It does have cool wood…full of tiny worm holes…
Very unique idea. I am sure the most wonderful fabrics graced that ironing board. xo
I’m envious! I love the character and charm of the old wooden boards and you got yours for a steal, I think. Yep, having it in the dining room is perfect.
I love re-purposing items for a totally different use. Your wooden ironing board is just perfect where it is and your vignette is completely charming. Love it~
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they could talk back to us and share their history? It looks wonderful there. You always do an outstanding job with your vignettes. I used mine when I sold Longaberger baskets to do my displays on. It was such fun. They really have many uses even in today’s world. That is so cool that Kathy has both her grandmother’s and mother’s boards!
Brenda I love the ironing board and your display is as always wonderful! You really have such a knack for putting items together and wowing me! Hugs, Linda
That really is one of your coolest finds EVAH! And it makes the perfect table to display some pretty things! Happy Fall!
I love what you’ve done with your old ironing board! They are wonderful for display. I use one for my ironing, and prop up the other like a pop up buffet sometimes. They are sensational for showing off linens too. Yours has a wonderful patina.
Your old ironing board made me emotional today. You’ve made such a lovely display on it. It looks just like the one that my Mom had her whole married (twice) life, until my dad got rid of it after my mom passed away. I had no idea that it would occur to him to “pitch it” and he had no idea what in the world I would have wanted with that old thing. My mom’s ironing board had been used through the Depression, WWII, the Korean war, my sister and me. Ironing boards could tell some stories if they could talk. I’d imagine most women have the same one their whole lives. Living places come and go, husbands may come and go, kids come and go , the women themselves age and change, and finally go, but the ironing board stays the same. In the case of my metal ironing board it has gotten more padded over the years as we usually just cover the cover that is on there each time. I’ve gotten more padded over the years, too.
Your ironing board is wonderful. Please excuse my sentimental rambling, but seeing it must have set off something in me.
I have a friend who has one in her dining room too with all sorts of things on it. she hands an old table cloth off one end. what a find for 10!!! love your new mantel too and always love to see your babies too. I guess it wont be long now before your cast comes off. someone should use that old ironing board in a mystery novel of something. thanks for sharing always makes my day.
I hear that some people iron on ironing boards? Much better to put them to everyday use. My mother insisted that each of us girls had their own wooden ironing board. I really didn’t appreciate that thought until I saw yours used as a table. They really are a work of art.
To Jen @MTD, about your comment here-the wooden ironing boards were padded, too! Usually with the cotton quilting padding and then over that was tacked a cotton/muslin natural white cloth-you wd have had to untack and then retack to wash that cover so most people just put another over it with more tacks when the original became soiled (or scorched)!
To Brenda, I admire what you can do with a $10 ironing board! (That must be the one Judy found for you if I remember correctly.)
Hi Brenda, I’m a fan of old ironing boards myself and I think the best use of them is exactly what you did in your dining room. They make fabulous surfaces for display and they have such history. Think of the fashionable items that have rested upon them.
This made me smile! Your vignettes are perfect anywhere. This is a neat ironing board…you must have had a vision!
XO,
Jane
What a wonderful find! I love that you have honored this wonderful antique in your dining room! There isn’t much you don’t come up with, display-wise, clever girl
) Nobody does it better than you Brenda!
xo, Andrea
What a great find Brenda. Perfect for your cozy little house!
Love the old ironing board. use to be around here the crafters use to make them into Santas and prop them on the porch for Christmas decorations. I think it goes splendidly in your decor.
Susanne
While my mother ironed on her wooden ironing board just like yours, I sat underneath it and learned how to write…..the legs were covered with my family’s names. That was a long time ago…..63 yrs to be exact….I wish I still had it, but she gave it away and bought a metal one. I do have one though….I bought it at Canton many years ago….now it is decorated and ready to hang in my laundry room. I love what you did with yours and I enjoy your blog very much.
It looks awesome, Brenda…and in the dining room it could serve as a great sideboard when you need it, too!
Makes sense to me. I have my wooden ironing board on the back porch by my dining table and china cabinet. See? You’re not the weird one.
I would say a perfect place for an old ironing board.
What a great find, Brenda, and at such a bargain price! I can visualize you using it in so many ways!
Love your old ironing board! Mine is in my dining room too. I can’t get over how much Abi and Charlie looks like my little yorkie, Zoey.

Things with a history are so much better than anything new.
Hi Brenda,
What a great repurposing of this charming old ironing board. It resembles a vintage harvest table. The wear and tear gives it such a great presence in your kitchen. You have put this time worn treasure to perfect use.
We are like minded in our love of the color RED!
Thanks for sharing.
Smiles,
Carolynn
I love old ironing boards, and yours looks great.
I have several old ironing boards…one I use as an ironing board (original, eh?), one I use as a display for the craft fair we do, and one I use for a bar outside or with my ’63 Shasta camper.
In the past I, too, have used my great-grandmother’s wooden ironing board in the dining room for display. I love it! It has also served as a buffet. I have had it tucked away for years and think it is high time to bring it out again. Thanks for the reminder! Yours looks wonderful displayed with all your beautiful treasures.
I love your little arrangements..I think mixed vignettes like this show more f our personalities..we are multifaceted..not one dimensional.. I love the wooden boxes with the writing and the wash boards…I would die to find a wooden iron board…
