Morning Routine

Morning. Get up, do yoga, take a bath. Feed the dogs. Change out their water. Let them outside.

Fill the Keurig reservoir with water. Plop in a Starbucks K-cup.

Let the dogs back in. Rub sleepy eyes. Try to adjust to morning light. Yawn.

Choose between cereal or oatmeal. Cereal wins out. It’s faster and easier. Living alone gives you those options.

Smile at pink and red tea towels a lovely reader sent me.

Open the blinds. But not too much. There’s never anything next door one would want to look out on. Rather depressing to have neighbors that care so little about things. Ah, but life goes on.

Turn to gaze at pretty tea towels again. Just to shut out the thought of them and their bags of never ending trash.

Be thankful, once again, that you made those curtains that look out over the kitchen sink before foot injury. There will be no sewing for awhile.

Load up that coffee cup with all the essentials. Stir. Head back to the office to answer emails.

The day has officially begun.

  1. Happy Saturday Brenda, I just love your kitchen and those tea towels are so lovely-I’d much rather look at those than neighbors. I also loved your yellow mums-so bright and cheery. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
    Hugs, Noreen

  2. What a fun post, following you through your morning routine! Wish I could keep my stove top as clean as yours, it’s a never ending work-in-progress, seems everything we cook boils over.

  3. Good morning Brenda; I’ve got my cup of tea and I am taking a quick peek to see what you wrote this morning. The red microwave settled right in. I’ve always enjoyed seeing your kitchen in the morning. So very cheerful. Have a good day.

  4. Brenda, your home looks so cheery and warm.

  5. Not a bad way to start your day! LOVE the sweet tea towels, now those would make me smile also.
    hugs, Linda

  6. I’m not sure why, but I just love seeing pretty tea towels. Yours are great.
It’s too bad about the sewing, Brenda. I’m guessing that perhaps you find using the pedal awkward with your other foot. Nonetheless, have a good weekend.

  7. Hi Brenda…I LOVE your kitchen…love the red microwave and your pretty cups of red with white polka dots and the roses on the inside are just beautiful!! I can hardly wait for you to sew again because I am needing an owl pillow to go with my ceramic cream colored owls I bought at Bath n Body…unless you have some still??Let me know ok??Thanks Brenda!! Have a great day!! Love ya!!! Carol

I love your kitchen window. Even if you can’t have the blinds open a whole lot, you do get some light in there, but better yet you have made it so pretty. I feel so stupid for asking you if you had anything in Etsy lately, totally forgetting you probably can’t use the foot pedal. I’m afraid if I tried sewing using the left foot to operate the pedal it would be disastrous!

  9. I enjoy my mornings…waking up slowly with a cup of coffee and a couple of lit candles or a bath! Those tea towels are adorable, and I wish I had a Keurig, but I think I’d spend way too much money on those cute K cups!! Have a wonderful weekend, Brenda.
    Blessings,
    Leslie

  10. Sorry you have neighbors like that. I have some I wish would go away also.:(
    Enjoy your weekend.

What a wonderful way to greet the day, with all of your pretty red things (and funny, sweet pups). Your kitchen looks so cheerful. Even your microwave. I love red, too. I have it in my living room. At night, especially this time of year, in the lamplight, it just glows and makes me happy and cozy. If I can make space for it, I’m going to add some red to my kitchen. You’ve inspired me. Again.

  12. Love your redness! Im so understanding you, days take forever to start out! :)

    Hugs,

  13. Oh I MUST have my coffee in the morning! LOVE,LOVE,LOVE that red in your kitchen. So bright and cheery!

  14. It’s funny, Brenda, how my day starts with taking care of the dog and cat before I do anything for myself or my family. I guess it is because they are so glad to see me in the morning! Have a wonderful day!

  15. Brenda,
We all have our little morning routines, don’t we. Somehow that is comforting to me, tho :) First up on my list is give the poochies their Greenie!

  16. My favorite bowls! Those are very cute tea towels!

I guess that’s why it’s always so hard for me to travel. I miss my morning routine.

  17. Those are really precious teatowels with the cherries on them! I wish I had a set of them.

    Judy

  18. At least you do your yoga and take a bath before you drink coffee! I am incapable of doing ANYTHING until I’ve had my coffee. I can let Scout out. But that’s about it!

  19. I love morning routines and yours sounds a lot like mine. Thanks for letting us in to take a peek. Patty

  20. I wanted to thank you for the smile you gifted to me upon seeing your morning routine images ~ so filled with care and cheer (in spite of the inability to gaze out your morning window) :-(

This is my first visit, but I’m looking forward to strolling thru your previous posts and I’ll certainly be returning for your new posts.

    Warmest regards
    Issy

  21. Years of city living have taught me that if you flip the slats of the blinds facing up, you’ll get more light while still blocking out an ugly view. I love all your kitchen things, but those polka dot bowls with the flowers inside are just the cutest thing ever. Sometimes the simplest things can make you smile.

  22. Routines are so important. Love your red and white and those cherries and birds. I have some of those cherries and they always bring a smile.

  23. Hi there! I found your blog via Meredith’s – “Mereknits”. I rarely am so charmed by a blog that I instantly add it to my blog list – but I did so with yours! :-) I scrolled down and read all your latest ones.. I hope we become friends too. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  24. Pam Speak says:

I have to admit if I had a foot injury that stopped me sewing I’d be tempted to train my cat to use the foot peddle.

Hope your ankle is healing nicely.

  25. What a lovely glimpse into your morning routine!

    Big Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

  26. Hi, Brenda…we all seem to have pretty much the same routine in the mornings. I amble my way to the kitchen to make coffee, look at blogs, then back for my first sweet cup of coffee…..and then breakfast. I am huge on breakfast..my favorite meal and if I don’t have a good breakfast, I run out of steam in the early part of the day.

  27. Morning rituals are the best :)

  28. Oh. Brenda! The towels look so lovely with your kitchen! Thanks for showing them in such a beautiful way! I knew they’d be a perfect fit for you!

I wish my morning routine was so pleasant…I guess I will have to make it so.

  29. I love the red polka dot cups – and I love red in the kitchen, too. It’s so fun:)

  30. morning routines are great to have, I wish I could just stick to one myself. Hope all is well with you…Mica

  31. You really know how to feather your nest, Brenda, and I loved joining in on your morning routine!

    XO,

    Sheila

  32. Sounds like a good routine, not too different from mine. Isn’t it great that something as simple as fabric curtains can block an ugly site?
