I have always had a thing for red, white and blue. Not a patriotic thing. Just a color loving thing.
And I also have a thing for rolling pins.
And I have a thing for anything related to the barnyard. Except manure. Not crazy about manure. I also like thing that are beachy. I know, doesn’t exactly go together. But I like it anyway.
And I like vintage things, like this wooden ironing board Judy fetched at a yard sale for me for $10.
And quilts. You can see one of my handmade quilts if you look over to the left.
And ya gotta love those red and white plates another blogger was so kind as to send me. Thanks, Mags!
I’m joining Let’s Dish at Cuisine Kathleens.
(NOTE: Over at Cozy Inspiration, Claudia tells what it was like to transfer her blog from Blogger to WordPress. So if any of you are contemplating that, it might be something you want to read.)

You do know how to make things work together! But, I’m sure glad your leaving out the manure. I would too!
The red hens with white polka dots are super cute! I love the wooden box they’re in as well
I got one of those hens from Marshalls. And Judy picked up the other one for me.
Brenda
I do guess manure is good for the garden!

Hi Brenda,
I am a happy camper just looking at your wonderful post! How I love all the color…bright and cheery. I remember when I first found your blog…It was right up my alley. I love all your colorful quilts and, I’d imagine you have stitched every one. As I see your cozy round table I wish I had held on to mine. I gave it to my son and he turned around and gave it to someone else. Oh, well! Yesterday, I made a table runner with the attached ruffle at both ends. I used a colorful plaid homespun fabric. In the coming days I will be sure and post a photo of it. It looks like something you would make up.
I hope you have a pleasant day. My warmest thoughts and prayers are with you, Brenda.
Blessings,
Carolynn
Oh, I’d love to see the runner! I miss sewing things, but can’t because of my foot.
Brenda
Hi Brenda…I just read your reply to my comment and I wondered if you have considered using your other foot to sew? When I broke my leg and foot nearly five years ago I was, especially, upset because I love to sew. The physical therapist encouraged me to try using my other foot…and, surprisingly, I was able to with great success. I have a titanium rod and many screws still in place and have never returned to sewing with my right foot. I find that I prefer the new side. I know every case is different, but, I wanted to mention this to you.
Blessings, Brenda,
Carolynn
Right now it hurts if I don’t have my feet elevated. I think I’m going to do some hand sewing. I like it better anyway. Thanks for the advice!
Brenda
Gorgeous! Love all of your reds! Your hand-made quilt is absolutely beautiful!
-Denise
Thank you. That is one of the last ones I made. Haven’t made quilts in awhile. Such big projects they are!
Brenda
I am so glad when I was about 32 I started making quilts. Had no idea what I was doing. Some came out kind of wonky. Because I didn’t have a sewing machine at the time, and hand-pieced and hand-quilted them. But those are precious to me now. Imperfections and all!
Brenda
LOVE your red theme, Brenda! How could one possibly be down in the dumps when surrounded by that bright gorgeous colour! Love all your sweet touches; the polka dot chickens, the rolling pins, the quilt, the red toile dinnerware! Simply charming! Thanks for sharing and have a beautiful day!
Blessings,
sandi
I see homes with mostly white, and though I find it beautiful, it would bore me to tears.
Brenda
Love your red white and blue table settings…wonderful!
Now if I just had some of your wonderful food to put on it, we’d be set!
Brenda
This was such a cheerful post. I so enjoyed your table settings and those rolling pins are awesome sitting in that wooden bowl! You sure set off fireworks yesterday with that insurance post!
It’s a hot topic, I suppose, with everyone.
Brenda
I love the red! If you like beachy stuff, we’re at the coast and I’ve been posting some neat photos. I hope you see the house I photographed yesterday.. it’s a dream beach place. ((hugs)), Teresa
Oh, I’ll head right over there!
Brenda
Brenda, I love all of your bright pops of color! I too love red. That handmade quilt is absolutely georgous. Did you make it? I so wish I could sew one like it. Maybe someday:0)
Also, I hope your insurance issues get straightened out soon!
Xo,
Charlotte T
Yes, I did make it. I think I’ll get things straightened out soon.
Brenda
The red is happy. Love the chairs.
Those red woven chairs are actually outdoor chairs I found a few years ago at Pier 1!
Brenda
Oh wow, I haven’t seen pictures like these since you hurt your foot, I nearly screamed but didn’t want to scare the kids
Beautiful, beautiful decor, loving it so much!!! Thanks for showing us your beautiful dining room! Mary
I was bound and determined to set a pretty table. It makes me happy to gaze at it.
Brenda
I like red too, my bedroom is red I’m not sure why it should be a restful colour but i like red.
Merle……
I have red in every single room. Blues are supposed to be more restful, but I have those too!
Brenda
Mmmm… Love this room Brenda. The red, white, and blue all looks wonderful. To me, always patriotic—but that’s just me.
The thing I love most in your dining room right now are the tall shelves! I remember you put them there after you moved into your home a year ago…and they make a great statement together in the corner like they are.
Pat
I’m not saying I’m not patriotic, because I am. I just meant that’s not why I picked those colors. I have really enjoyed having regular book shelves fill in kitchens and dining rooms where I need more storage.
Brenda
Oh Brenda…You’re funny. Of course I know you patriotic. What I mean is… I don’t think outside the box on somethings. Color mainly…To a fault. So when I see Red, white and blue…I always think ‘patriotic’. No, your reds, and whites, and blues…tickle the color palette for sure…I’ve seen people use the colors in a NAUTICAL theme, RUSTIC COWBOY theme, BEACH comber theme, EVEN PRIM- themes (though muted)…and that is the one I almost always think patriotic. I just get in a rut when it comes to color. You do color nicely. No matter what the colors!
Pat, I knew what you meant. I just didn’t want some people to think I was saying I’m not patriotic. Would be an awful thing as an American to say…
Brenda
Looks fabulous Brenda! Love that rooster, is he tin? I really like the way you put the cupboards in the corner too.
No, the rooster is wooden. Made by Jim Shore Collections.
Brenda
It’s so funny, Brenda I am NOT a red person, but whenever I see your red posts, it makes me love it.
After all those teenage years with a red bedroom, I was so over that color…maybe because I had no choice.
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
Well, you don’t have to use red if you don’t want to, Jen. You can just come visit me for your red!
Brenda
This is so cute and cheery, Brenda! I love the red and white dishes…how lucky you are to get such sweet gifts from bloggers! I noticed you are leaving remarks after comments and I’m always confused by that. Do people come back a second time? BTW, I always wanted to live in a castle on a farm…go figure!
XO,
Jane
This is a plug in for WordPress that I wanted to try. I like to get a dialogue going and then when people ask me questions, and I can’t find an email, I don’t have to worry. I can just answer their questions right here. And yes, people do often come back and see what’s been said and comment again. A castle on a farm, huh? I want to live in a barn!
Brenda
Brenda ~ your reds, whites and blues make me happy when I gaze upon them. The way you set your vignetes, table scapes and your happy quilts, are just eye candy. I love happy colours and you surround yourself with happy, happy colours. Don’t laugh, but the smell of cow manure is a “good” smell to me. It reminds me of my grandfather. He was a dairy farmer and I spent alot of time with him in the Summer, helping him with the cows. Now that is funny, isn’t it? I like that smell. I think it’s all about memories and I adored my papa.
We are so sensory-oriented. If it equates a pleasant memory for you, then of course it makes sense. I wish I’d know a grandfather. (Or a father for that matter.)
Brenda
Hi Brenda,
Love your combo or red w and b and rolling pins, very sweet.
Glad you didn’t include the manure.
We get the beach and manure combo when people walk their dogs or ride their horses on our beach and don’t clean up! Disgusting, def not a good combo! Bare feet and manure, very bad!
Thanks for linking to Let’s Dish!
I enjoyed linking up, Kathleen. I wouldn’t think people would ride their horses on a beach. But I guess different strokes for different folks. They should have laws about that, I would think. Definitely harder to clean up than after a dog.
Brenda
Love your red, white, and blue table setting. Love your Jim Shore rooster too. I have one, but it looks like a weather-vane…and I collect rolling pins too.
Beautiful photos!!
~Cindy
I have the weather vane one also, Cindy. I have it in the living room right now in my barnyard scene mantel grouping.
Brenda
I am in love with those two red polka dot chickens! I love red too and have a red board on pinterest…
Have a great one, Lynnie
I’ve seen the chickens at Hobby Lobby, and I got mine at Marshalls. I just smile when I look at them! Judy brought me one from some place.
Brenda
I truly love how you combine your cozy cottage, red, white & blue and beach into one adorable home! Love those plates!
Hugs, Linda
Oh, as soon as I opened that box and saw those plates: instant love!
Brenda
Lovely tablescape!!!! I adore the colours!
Hugs,
Thanks Kasia! I call them happy colours.
Brenda
SO bright and cheery…I love all the color and I am a fan of that quilt!
Thank you. It’s one of my favorite quilts. When I got tired of getting down on the floor to put the layers of large quilt tops, batting and backing together, I started making smaller ones. And it’s one of those. I’ve used it as a table cloth, and in so many ways.
Brenda
Hi Brenda,
I love the red transferware plates! Those polka dotted chickens are adorable too.I love red and white polka dots. We have similar tastes.
I love transferware in every conceivable color. I’d like to collect more as I can afford it.
Brenda
Brenda,
If you fall off your hubby’s insurance check out insure oklahoma. Just google it. You would be eligible. Hope you feel better the table looks great.

Thank you for the advice. I will definitely check it out!
Brenda
The plates look great, Brenda, with all your reds and whites. Glad you are getting to use them. Red and white is one of my favorite combinations. As far as I’m concerned, red is a neutral. Don’t you agree?
I love your cozy red table! Very, very cute table and dishes!
XO,
Sheila
