Winter Is Nearing

It is rainy and cold. Winter is peeking its head into fall. I’m looking for things inside to keep me occupied.

Putting my creative hat on.

Drinking hot beverages.

Thinking about recipes for cold weather.

And lighting some candles for warmth and ambiance.

  1. Oh !I think that you found a lovely way to spend inside your cosy home the time ! Here we have a sunshine with a little cold !Have a nice week !

  2. Right now we’re experiencing sort of an Indian summer. So odd on the heels of a snow storm and Hurricane Sandy!

I’m finding some new teas I like, too … due to acid reflux I’ve had to give up coffee… it ain’t easy!

  3. Weather is changing here too. Hot coffee and a vanilla candle lit in the early evening helps me move into this season. By next week I’ll be making pots of vegetable beef soup and baking a few more pumpkins to freeze..
I love this time of year.

Hi Brenda, Sounds like the beginning of a “cozy little winter” for you. I’m sure you’ll keep your creativity flowing..
How are Charlie and Abi~~~haven’t seen pictures of them lately.
Have a great week and stay warm.
    Charlotte

    • I just took a few photos (just for you) of them together on the table with the quilt folded on it. I have it there so they can look outside while I’m at this computer.
      Brenda

  5. Rainy and cold front here today too. Stay cozy!

  6. We are having nice weather today but the snow is on its’ way. I have lots of projects to work on (photograph books mostly) but I’ll be out driving in this stuff to cat-sit. :( Your photos are very pretty, once again. Deb

  7. Brenda, I can feel winter in the air today with a cold rain outside. Yesterday my husband and I started a painting project on an old piece of furniture. I hope to finish these types of things before Christmas comes and we have more company! I am also keeping candles lit and having warm drinks on hand.
Knowing you, before long your blog will be filled with winter inspiration and your beautiful Christmas trees!!!
    Blessings,
    Leslie

    • I may not be putting up trees this holiday. They’re back in the shed and I’d have to move a lot of stuff to get to them. So I may just improvise with what I have. I’d bet you’ve got some good food cooking!
      Brenda

  8. It all looks so warm and cozy. Just what we need in blustery November. Love your table settings.

  9. ONly thing else that you need is a “cozy blanket”, he he. We had a beautiful week-end with temps almost in the 70′s and lots of sun. Today dark, rain/snow expected. I think I would be bored if every day was the same.
    Have a great week Brenda.

  10. It looks like rain today! I’m going to stay inside and play!
    hugs, Linda

  11. Yes, thanks Brenda, now everytime I see your blog I have a craving for hot chocolate…which has milk in it, and I can’t have that, lol.

We are under another 4 inches of snow here, add that to the last few inches, and well I think winter is here to stay.

    Jen

    Must find hot chocolate…..

  12. Yes winter is coming! I am not a winter kind of girl..like you, I love flowers..so I said goodbye to them last night and to my amazement they didn’t freeze last night. I’m just up the road from you in Oklahoma City. Love your dishes!! Those are such fun cheerful colors!

  13. Hi Brenda!! It does feel like winter in the air here in Iowa too~we have our mums still blooming but all other flowers have died from the frost we have had with a few flurries~got out all my quilts and fleece blankets I have made hrough the years..my red bird one is my favorite…do you knit or crochet? I crochet all the time making scarves for this winter..I love all kind of different crocheted scarves to keep me warm~Have 5 candles burning as we speak…nothing more relaxing than a good book with a favorite quilt snuggled up with a hot cup of hot chocolate…I guess winter ain’t so bad!! lol love ya! Carol

  14. Sounds like a cozy little house to me!!

    Judy

  15. We had a couple of rainy days here last week and I loved it, did all those cozy things like drinking tea, reading, knitting, watching movies. We have to grab those day when we get them here in SoCA!

  16. You seem very cozy and snug. It is rainy and windy with falling temps here. Yes, winter is definitely on the way. I wish I could stay in today, but errands are unfortunately calling my name :(

    Hugs,
    Laura

  17. We’re in full cold season mode here.. our pellet stove is glowing nearby and when I go out it’s a coat, hat, shawl and knitted gloves! Winter is not my fave season. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  18. It’s cold and rainy here too Brenda. Perfect weather to cozy up with a quilt and a cup of hot cocoa and read a good book ~

  19. Annette Tracy says:

Here in So Cal we had a cold snap, warming up again today, just crazy weather. At least my heat ducts are fixed and making it comfy when necessary. It’s time to get in high gear for gift making and how cocoa helps so much.

  20. Sounds mighty perfect to me! Getting into that winter mode – winterizing, if you will! Brenda, your home is already so warm and inviting, with all those primary colours, patterns, layers and textures! Your house, like your blog, could not be called anything but ‘cozy’, and isn’t that what winter is all about?

    Poppy :)

  21. Winter is making a sneak peek here today with a rain snow mix.
    ~Cindy

  22. Such cozy photos you’ve posted. Winter is a time for gathering round, isn’t it? I’m sewing today and having such a good time. Things are turning out, which always makes it more enjoyable.
    Stay cozy.

  23. Everything looks wonderful!

  24. 2 weeks of cold and rain and then three days of mild weather and sunshine. Yesterday was about 70 degrees! ( western PA here ) And now the temps are dropping, the rain is arriving and the wind is gusting….!

  25. I, too, love to nest. the winter months are a perfect opportunity to catch up on projects, organization, communications with friends and special baking. Brenda…your home is such a tidy setting. It must offer you a respite from many of the cares of the world.
    Blessings, my friend.

  26. I love winter. Just wish we could have some snow every now and then!
