It is very cold here, but we didn’t get the expected snow. However, I will be staying in while it’s this cold out.
Each morning I have my cereal in these colorful bowls I found at Marshalls a few years ago. It is fun to get to the bottom of the bowl and have the flowers there to greet me.
I’m trying to get myself into a crafty frame of mind. I just can’t settle on what it is I want to do though.
Do I want to work with paper or fabric or felt? Or a mixture?
I’m rather proud of myself. I have managed to keep the poinsettia alive that Judy picked up at Home Depot about a month ago for 99 cents. I don’t seem to have very good luck with these plants normally. And yes I know they are toxic to animals, so I keep it up high.
I’m a little tired of seeing holiday things. So I’m happy that things will be getting back to the every day. Do you get to feeling that way? Like you just don’t know if you can look at yet another wreath or Christmas bauble?
Every morning when I walk into the kitchen, I am greeted by my rows of kitchen items. I love to see these vintage jars all lined up like soldiers at salute.
So what is it you’re going to be up to today? Are you going to brave the after Christmas throngs in the stores?
Or stay in, try to keep warm, and light some cheery fragrant candles?
Linking up to Nita’s Mod Mix Mondays at Mod Vintage Life.

I vote quilt! Make a quilt!
Cheery wave!
Bev
I don’t think my arthritic thumbs are up for a quilt. But something cheerful…
Brenda
I’m feeling crafty cozy today..going to work on a doily..and watch that snow fall…
We were supposed to get snow. Didn’t get here. Glad it didn’t. I don’t want to slip and fall in the stuff. Wish I knew how to make a doily. I just ordered some off eBay.
Brenda
Good morning to you…hope the ankle and the pets are doing well….yes, it is cold we had a minus 22 this morning…glad you did not get the snow. Have a happy craft day.
Minus 22. Good Lord, where do you live? My ankle both hurts and itches. I scratch and scratch.
Brenda
We got a few inches of snow here which made for a lovely first Christmas in our new country home. It also gave us our son and daugther-in-love for an extra day! The house is quiet now and the snow will be gone soon. I’m ready to put up the Christmas things and get back to fixing up my house. We only moved in Dec. 8th, so I haven’t really had a chance to get out my pretties and have fun!
Oh, definitely get into decorating mode in your new abode and go to town with it!
Brenda
Walk the puppy and blog. In my pj’s.
I don’t have warm pjs or a flannel gown. On my list. Or a coat for that matter. Coming from Texas, I didn’t need it.
Brenda
It is raining here in So. Calif. and I am exhausted from having family over yesterday. Slept in this morning and it was wonderful, after staying up late the last few nights wrapping, baking, cleaning etc. I just feel like staying in my PJ’s today, but I am contemplating taking all the Christmas decorations down. It needs to be done sooner or later, so I just might do that this afternoon. I always dread taking down the tree.
As for crafting, my first love is cross stitch and I really want to try to get back to stitching a little everyday. If I live to be 100, I will never finish all the charts I have!
I have to tell you though, after reading your post a few weeks (or months, since time flies) ago about the Penny Rugs, and seeing your little cute one on your table, I have been itching to make one. Maybe that will be my project for 2013 : )
I hope you have a nice day with your furbabies, staying warm inside with candles lit and something warm to drink.
I am thinking about doing something with the wool felt. Since I have quite a bit. Maybe a penny rug. Or I’m kind of leaning toward some embroidery hoop art. Just need to win some auctions on eBay and win some hoops. They’re kind of expensive in craft stores.
Brenda
hi … it’s cold here in north texas too. 27 right now. i got out to one store. had to spend my Christmas money at pier 1 sale. got the ornaments i wanted for half…12 sparkly stars and 1 la bien ornament. woo hoo. i’m one who could really do Christmas decor all year.
i scrapbook & am quite behind on my “grands” books. i could bundle up & do that today. but instead, reading my favorite blogs…you & claudia entertain me so….and
having a spot of earl grey tea in a giant mug….sausage balls….gingersnaps. what a combo.
happy day after
Kind of wish I had leftovers. But that would have meant I’d have to have cooked! Judy and John went to this place that serves on Christmas and brought me some chicken and dumplings for lunch.
Brenda
I should be doing something but I have left over guests so….just going to enjoy them.
Might as well. Too cold to do much anyway.
Brenda
Brenda love all your bright colors! Especially those sweet bowls.Yes it is cloudy and cold here too! I am waiting for the sun but keeping warm by the fire!
xx
Anne
I don’t recall when I’ve felt this cold. I don’t like cold. But then I don’t like hot either. Need to find myself a nice in between.
Brenda
Sounds like a good idea to stay in while it’s cold outside. I don’t like to get out in bad weather either. I turn into a little hermit then. It is cold and windy here. We didn’t get the bad storm they were forcasting last night (thank goodness). We were worried about tornadoes. My husband is out braving the crowds at Walmart right now. I’m staying in. I slept late today and not even dressed yet. Taking it easy after being so busy the last several days. Hope you had a nice Christmas too.
I was wondering if you’d get those tornadoes. Walmart on the day after Christmas? Is he crazy? I wouldn’t go to Walmart today if someone paid me. You’re smart to stay in.
Brenda
I’m way behind on washing and ironing my new quilting fabric, so I’m working on some of that today. Soon, I hope, I’ll be back in the mood to actually sew.
There’s something so peaceful about ironing new fabric. That’s me: I just can’t seem to get myself in the mood to make something. My foot can’t handle the sewing machine. So will have to find something to do by hand I guess.
Brenda
Yes, a quilt.
Staying put as we are getting a blizzard. Hubby out at work and has a nasty drive ahead of him to get home.
Your plant did well.
((((HUGS)))
A blizzard. I don’t envy you. Hope your hubby makes it home safe and sound.
Brenda
I get in that mood of not knowing what I want to do so I wind up doing a whole lot of nothing. I managed to stay well while at school when everyone around me was getting sick right and left and now that we are on holiday, the flu caught up with me. Today I am very icky and achy and just downright bleh. Sending warm wishes your way, Tammy
Well, have someone go get you some good magazines and chicken soup and milk it for all it’s worth! Oh, and chocolate. Can’t be properly sick without chocolate.
Brenda
We got the snow and windy cold here in Indiana, so we won’t be going out today. We still have two of our sons here also. We will be playing games, eating goodies, and reading. I might work on some embroidery too!
I do get tired of the Christmas stuff almost right after the day, but we keep it up until New Years. Then it’s back to regular:)
I get sick of it quick. Usually don’t make it till New Years.
Brenda
Brenda, your plant looks wonderful! I have been to two doctor’s offices this morning and just got home. Its cold and rainy outside and there were lots of traffic out on the roads this morning. I’m going to make some hot tea and spend a few minutes tidying up in each room. Maybe take a nap first! Hope you are having a great day!
Just trying to stay warm here in my recliner with the pupsters snoozing next to me on top of the blanket.
Brenda
Oh yes, I feel the same way. I am ready to take down the few things I have here. I will resist, though. xo
You’re stronger than me then.
Brenda
Hi Brenda..I’ll be doing my cat-sitting and then c.h.i.l.l.i.n’ for the rest of the day. I loved your post today. I, too need a reprive from Christmas bits and bobs and need to get back to calm and quiet. That means for my eyes, too. Love the first photo so much. Have a nice day, Brenda. Hugs, Deb
You’re like me. We love those dishes and teacups!
Brenda
Hi Brenda! I have been putting Christmas decorations away and trying to get my house back to where it use to be with more room..feels so cleannow..I also have been crocheting on an afghan I started before Christmas..hoping to get it done by Valentines day…then I will be making some valentine wreaths to give to friends and family…getting ready to put some yummy chili in my crockpot for supper tonight..it will be so good with this cold weather we have been having..-4 below here this morning…stay warm…Love ya! Carol
Boy, that’s cold! It’s cold enough here. Makes my foot hurt. And itch. Chili sounds mighty good!
Brenda
I love those blue and white dishes, Brenda. I am ready to see Christmas go, too. However, I have the girls coming over one more time so will keep the stuff up for them. Hope you had a good day- xo Diana
Stayed warm and inside. Blue and white dishes are some of my favorites. Those especially.
Brenda
I came home today and had Christmas with the Mr. It’s cold and I am just beat!! I plan to rest tomorrow for sure. Friday I go visit my best friends and have our Christmas….then I’m done! Stay warm and think of a fun craft!
hugs, Linda
I’ve been pinning possibilities all afternoon! Just have to get myself going.
Brenda
I’m always a little sad when it’s time to put the Christmas things away. But after I do I remember that this is the cleaner, less cluttered look that I usually love and I realize that I really was ready for the change back. And then I vow to myself that next year I will go with simpler decor for Christmas, and that I won’t get it ALL out… I know someday I’ll get there.
Thank goodness I didn’t try to drag that big tree out of the shed. I’d never have gotten that thing back. I went with simpler decor and it was easy to put up!
Brenda
Brenda, yep I am over Christmas. I can’t wait to get it all down. I call it dust collectors. LOL
I am the one who is ready to take the tree down the minute the presents are opened. I was hoping I find some things to blog about now that Christmas is over. We are having a snow storm right now and I am loving it.
That’s the way I always feel. So glad it’s put away.
Brenda
It is cold and dreary here, too. Quiet and cozy with out any pressure to shop or wrap. Nice!
It’s going to be cold here all week. I’ve got food in and I may just not go out at all.
Brenda
Hi Brenda…. I love the decorations, and could keep them up for ever…. but I have the itch to keep changing and re-arranging them ………………….so they will be going away soon.
We had a cool Christmas day here in Sydney, Australia…….it was a nice change from the heat.
Keep warm and give your ‘babies’ a big cuddle and pat from me.
Barb from Australia
If anything is still long enough, I get the itch to rearrange it too!
Brenda
Your decorating feels so charmingly cozy, Brenda…love the fabric banner garland you have! I love getting my house back in some semblance of order after the holidays…feels clean and makes me want to organize things…
January is that month when we want to get order and organize. At least it is for me. Must be real cold up your way.
Brenda
Here in Ohio we had the “blizzard” with lots of snow and wind. I spent the day working on my craft area that took a beating with holiday crafts. All straightened up now and ready to work on something. I decided to start a cross stitch Christmas stocking for my new grandson – hope it’s ready for next Christmas! I haven’t done any cross stitching for years so it may take awhile. I’m off work until Jan. 7th so I plan to cram in home stuff as much as possible. Probably leave up the decorations until after the 1st.
I love the pictures of your decor and pretty dishes.
We were supposed to get snow, but it bypassed us.
Brenda
We are experiencing a blizzard as I type this. It has been cold blustery and snowy all day. I have just cuddled up on the couch, lit some candles, sipped a cuppa and tonight we had ofcourse, hot turkey sandwiches and now I am just catching up with all my friends. Stay warm Brenda. I am looking forward to taking down the Christmas decorations and getting crafty ~
Must be something in the air, that need to get crafty!
Brenda
I started taking down some of my Christmas stuff today…while we had a blizzard warning outside. We did not end up getting as much snow as they were first calling for…only got 3 to 4 inches, but my in-law’s an hour away have 4 to 5 feet snow drifts.
~Cindy
I’m so glad we didn’t get snow. Yet anyway. I’m afraid I’ll slip and fall.
Brenda
We’ve got 5 inches of snow already here in Southeast Michigan! It’s very cold and blustery! I’m getting ready to fix a nice cup of Tazo Chai tea. One of my little dogs is sitting on the ottoman at my feet. I’ll be flipping on the gas fireplace and make it nice and cozy. Getting ready to pack for our trip to Delaware to visit our grandkids. It’s about an 11 hour drive and it looks like the snow is heading in the direction that we are.
Your house truly looks nice and cozy. I’ll be ready to put all the holiday decorations away when we get home. Bt then I’ll be tired of it but I don like the way the tree looks when I turn the light down and just have the tree lit. Very pretty. Stay cozy and warm!
Be safe. Be careful. Have fun with the grandkids.
Brenda
How about some sewing Brenda!
Still hurts my ankle to use the machine. So I’m trying to think of things I can make without it.
Brenda
It was cold and windy here today in northern IL, but no snow. We missed that big storm. Whew! Hubby had the day off, so we ventured out to Target to get gift wrap at 50% off and a couple of ornament storage boxes. Then went to B&N to pick up a date book and a box of Christmas cards at 50% off, also. Finally, across the street to an independent coffee store for a mocha (me) and tea (Brian) while reading books.
I am loving the header. I am glad it is back to a colorful reflection of your home. Keep warm. When I went out to let the chickens out the poor things had two inches of water in the coop and run. They of course loved it and getting all the worms coming up but I had cold wet feet.
Hi Brenda,
I’ve been out of blogland for awhile, but it’s so nice to visit your beautiful home again. I love seeing your pins on Pinterest too! Wishing you a Happy New Year!
Blessings,
Marcia
I must confess that holiday seasons (no matter what season) tend to take me on a blog hiatus, as I get so weary of so much of the same. I do “normal” (and that’s stretching it) best of all. As it turned out, I’m glad I didn’t decorate for Christmas this year, as I have hardly been home since Thanksgiving.
Stay warm and enjoy a bowl of cereal for me.
I love your photos, I have had company since Sunday one guest couldn’t get home due to the winter storm we had, roads are pretty much clear today so I should finally have my house to myself by this afternoon. I’m going to do a load of laundry, quickly wipe down the kitchen and tidy up then I will relax and enjoy the peace with a cross stitch I have started, get some reading done….whatever else, I will be staying indoors and experience winter from the comfort of my home, not going out at all in this stuff.
Hey,Brenda I learned something new this year. It might not be your fault that your Poinsettas usualy die. I found out that they are VERY delicate to cold weather, and have usually been exposed to freezing temps before arriving @ your house! The people @ the store should cover it with something,(paper bag) before it is taken even just to your car. So it turns out you totally STILL have your green thumb! -Judy-
For years, I left Christmas decorations up until New Year’s Day. Two years ago, I left them up until Jan. 31, waiting for our son to return from a 5 month deployment to Afghanistan. This year, everything was down, inside and out, by yesterday afternoon. Such a sad season this year that I can’t wait for it to end. However, I will listen to Christmas music through New Year’s…
It was pouring rain here in the Pacific NW, but I think I am recovering from a crazy, fun few days with family in town. Sipping on my coffee now seeing what my bloggy friends have been up to is the perfect morning for me!
xoxo, Tanya
Just discovered your blog and am enjoying it. I’m here in East Texas and it is a warm 36 after being 28 overnight. I live in an old Victorian house that only has wall heaters, brrrrr!! I’m staying in out of the cold the last couple of days as it makes me hurt all over! Trying to get up some energy to go work on some bracelets that I will be fixing for a friend! All I want to do is sit in front of the heater and stay warm!! Blessings to you!!
I only decorated my mantel this year….just not crazy in the mood I guess. I’m ready for the new year. We’ve had a nice little blizzard here in Arkansas…very cold and about 10 inches of snow. Many without power and probably won’t get power for a week. I took food and blankets to the shelter and would like to remind everyone to think about donating blankets or whatever they can to their local animal shelter especially when the weather is bad…..if it’s bad for us, it’s bad for them. Anything warm to cuddle in helps. Now that I’ve done that, I’m cuddling in my own self;-) Stay warm!
I had a terrible time getting your blog to come up. Maybe you are working on it. We didn’t get the snow either. I am definitely ready to move on from Christmas, but we won’t take the decorations down until next week. What a chore.
stay warm,
laura
