Picnic Basket Vignettes

The other day I took two brown picnic baskets I’ve had for years, garage sale finds, and decided to paint them. I already had these two colors of spray paint.

I didn’t spray the whole insides, just the inside of the lid. Then I thought: What do I do with them? So you can see what I decided to do. I put folded up vintage table cloths in this red one.

And in this blue one, I put homemade pillows and teddy bears. Plus folded a table cloth and doily along the front. I rather like their bright cheery colors!

My dough bowl with various odds and ends are between them on the table.

You know me and color. I can never have too much. If you’re wondering about that white thing on the lower left side, that is my sound machine. Keeps me from going crazy with the college kids next door. I have it set to rain 24/7.  And another in my bedroom.

I’m linking up to Elaine’s Sunny Simple Sundays.

Your baskets look pretty in their fresh, bright colors. I like the way you have displayed your tablecloths and teddy bears in them. Great accents in your room. I’ve got a basket that I think is like yours. The lid on it is some type of pressed wood in a diamond type pattern. It is currently in its original brown with orangy yellow handles. It had a Redman tag in it. Not near as eyecatching as yours are.

  2. Of course, I love the bears in the baskets. The colors are nice. Will the college kids be going away over the holidays. I can just imagine you in your cozy little home oblivious to the noise around you.
How’s your furry baby feeling on her Prozac.

    • The Prozac may take months to take affect. As for the college kids, they once again have furniture and mattresses out close to my house in their driveway! And I just got rid of the rats! They keep bringing in U-Haul trucks and furniture trucks and moving more things in!

  3. Love your picnic baskets in those bright colours! I use one in my kitchen to store cling wrap, baggies, foil, etc.

  4. Hi Brenda~what a good idea to do with two old picnic baskets..you are always amazing me with your talents~and I just love the colors!!I have one in the basement..I just may do the same!!! Thanks for sharing~too bad the neighbors don’t move!! Could you get that lucky?? lol~ Love ya! Carol

    • Every time I see a U-Haul truck over there, I think: Oh boy, they’re moving! But they’re just moving more stuff in!
      Brenda

  5. Pretty and great for storage!
Hope you are doing well and improving more each day.

    • They are great for storage. I rarely bring anything into my house that’s very big unless it has storage. I believe I am improving more and more.
      Brenda

  6. Of course you would have red paint on hand, we wouldn’t expect anything less. They are so cute, and I love how you have the tableloths draped over them.

  7. You are so creative!

Brenda,I love the red picnic basket and the vintage linens. So inviting–let’s go on a picnic! I hadn’t noticed the woodpeckers on the tray on the wall before–very nice. Enjoy your weekend and hopefully the college kids are studying. ♥

Brenda, You baskets look so much nicer sprayed with the bright colors~~~~and they make such good storage places.. Your Teddy bears looks happy sitting on your pillows.. I’ll bet they have a picnic when you’re asleep at night. ;o)
I hope you could get the articles I sent you today.. Let me know, if not and I’ll try again..
I so wish you didn’t have that aggravation of your next door neighbors.. It’s just not right that you have to be pestered with their noise.. Enough is enough !
    Have a good weekend..
    Hugs, Charlotte

  10. How can you go wrong with a red basket. I love red too. I really like the dough bowl with the interesting assortment.

  11. I love the painted baskets. I have a couple of handed down ones that I would like to paint. But since they are from family, I have to think about it for awhile:)

  12. It’s all lovely!
And then…why not some weekend just blast Stairway to Heaven or some old Woodstock or Pink Floyd music or something retro and get back at the neighbors lol :)

what’s funny is that one of my kids likes that old music better now than alot of the new stuff :)

  13. I just gave my picnic basket to my daughter…think she will give it back???

  14. so great!! i love the pops of bright colors… so fun. need to check into those sounds machines. sounds like something i so need. want. must have. ( :

    • I got mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond. They were about $19.99. Let me tell you, they save my sanity. I am two blogs from Tulsa University, so there’s noise from there too.
      Brenda

  15. Beautiful picnic baskets. Love how you filled them!!

    • I will have so much fun with these baskets! I love to fill things. Before they just looked drab and brown and sat in a corner.
      Brenda

  16. See, I told you that you could spray paint!! The baskets look great.

  17. I admire your vignettes. I can only accomplish baskets and boxes of things.

  18. Love the picnic baskets! Such great colors and wonderful storage!

I love your colorful picnic baskets- what fun! Not only are they cute but the offer storage, too. My friend has a sound machine and she says it is very calming to her. Blessings, my friend-xo Diana

  20. Such lovely picnic baskets and vignettes!!

  21. Those picnic baskets look so good, Brenda! I was thinking that a little Christmas tree would look cute in that red one…or maybe some poinsettias. It would be so festive. I sure love the lampshade in the last photo too!

  22. Very pretty!

  23. Now, I am not the least bit surprised by that red paint! What a great idea to paint your baskets. Came out really well too. Wanted to say hello and wish you a happy holiday season. xoxo

  24. Every time I see a picnic basket at a garage sale, I am SO tempted, but then, aside from the storage aspects, I can’t imagine what I would do with one. NEXT TIME I’LL KNOW!

Now, ABOUT THAT LAMP: Is that one “gettable”? I am a lamp fanatic, and that one would fit into so many different settings! Any info appreciated!

    • The lamp base came from Garden Ridge Pottery. Think it was under $20. I found the shade at Target. First I found the shade online, then located it online at a local store and rushed over to get it!

  25. Love you bright and cheery picnic baskets. What a shame that you can’t get rid of those annoying neighbors :(

  26. You always make the most charming vignettes. :-)

Noisy neighbors…I feel your pain. Until after midnight last night, my next-door neighbor (and this is a single lady in her late 50′s) had a party and all the smokers kept going out onto her deck, which is very close to my living room and guest room windows. They were loud and obnoxious and had a couple of barking dogs out there, too. Wish I lived in a little house on a ton of land. No close neighbors.

  27. Brenda it is the ‘simple pleasures’ in life that give us the greatest joy to our heart and one of those ‘simple pleasures’ is colour and you do joy to the hearts of all of us who follow your blog by your use of colour in the simplicity of your life. I pray soon you will be able to walk around your neighborhood again with camera in hand as I know that was a ‘simple pleasure’ you truly enjoyed.
Paint is another source of ‘simple pleasure’ and the baskets are ready to greet the Christ Child.
    Joyfully,

  28. Woonderful idea, Brenda…

    XO,

    Sheila

  29. Love how you refreshed and brightened plain Jane brown picnic baskets. They look really good. I especially like the red one.

  30. For some reason your pin pics aren’t showing up on your pin it board.

  31. nice site, all posts are very nice.
