Embroidery Hoop Art

Embroidery Hoop Art

h2

Lately I’ve become intriqued with embroidery hoop art. Judy has made some beautiful ones. So I thought I’d try my hand at it.

h1

I tried sewing with my Singer Featherweight the day before, and aggravated some tendon above my ankle. So I hand sewed this. The only hand sewing I did was the script material pocket to the Osnaberg background, the brown trim to the pocket, and the felt flower and button.

I will hang it on the wall some place, most likely. I can do that with the bow at the top I worked into the screw that tightens the hoop.

I hot glued the vintage images, the doily, and the buttons on. Does everyone burn the tips of their fingers with a hot glue gun? There must be a strategy to avoid this.

This was a fun project. I may make some to sell. I like collage art on any medium. In the coming year, I’ve decided I want to dabble more in creating things. Judy is rubbing off on me.

Have you tried embroidery hoop art yet?

  3. BEAUTIFUL WORK…I LOVE THIS…CLEAVER…HOPE JUDY AND YOU MARKET IT.

  4. Wow that is really neat !!! Have a wonderful day

  5. This is so lovely, Brenda! I think you are one of those persons that is so naturally creative and crafty, that anything you do comes out beautifully. Where do you get the vintage images?

  6. Charlotte MacDiarmid :

This is a really nice idea, Brenda. I like the idea of putting your “lollipop” flower in with the other crafty items. I think you and “Ethel” make a good team.
When I worked for a Christmas shop and made wreaths, I got hot glue burns on all of my fingers.. They hurt like “heck” don’t they. It’s a good idea to keep a bowl of cold water close by to dip your fingers in, just in case.

  7. I’ve always loved the tints of old photographs, so I really like how you used just those colors for the whole artwork. I’m sorry you weren’t able to use your Featherweight because of your injury. I don’t manage to avoid hot glue on my fingers, mostly because I get so engrossed that I forget I could burn myself; I just end up keeping a cold wet cloth nearby for the inevitable.

  8. Brenda I just love this. Your talents never stop amazing me!

  9. I like it. Yes, you should add to your etsy shop. You and Judy are good for each other.
I broke my ankle only to break my leg and ankle 2 months later. For almost a year I wore one of those step in ace bandages. I wore it for support and it helped with the pain. You might try that. I know yours is alot different. But just for some extra protection.
I try not to burn my fingers as it kills. I have always heard not to pull the glue off. Bear the pain and wait til it’s not hot. Sometimes it will keep from blistering.

  10. Brenda, This is so sweet! What a wonderful addition to your home!

  11. Hi Brenda! I love it!! I am gonna try doing it..I see hoops all the time in the flea mkts..now I will start picking them up…lol..this one you made is so nice! I love the old pictures on it..I mailed your box off this morning so be looking for it ok?? so sorry it took me so long…you are so crafty Brenda!! I always appreciate you sharing with us all your crafty ideas!!! Hope you are having a wonderful New year so far!! going to meet my daughter for lunch now..take Care! love ya!! Carol

  12. Have never tried it ( nor seen any to be honest ) but yours is lovely! That would grab my attention in a store etc immediately!

  13. Ethel, you can now buy Teflon finger tipped things that will protect your fingers from burns. Also, when you finish a project and have strings of hot glue, just take your hair dryer and blow your project. It will magically melt away all of your “strings”.

Love your embroidery hoop project. You should definitely make these to sell on Etsy!

    Judy

  14. Your embroidery hoop art is lovely. Years ago I did some with candlewicking in it. Love your collage approach. ♥

  15. No, but this looks right up my alley.
    Balisha

  16. My glue gun has two settings and does require specific type glue sticks. I use the cooler setting the most. I also use tweezers or needle nose pliers to handle items I’m gluing. They come in handy while corraling strings of hot glue, too.

  17. I like how cute that looks! I like a mix of interesting things together like that. I think it would be a great idea for you to make some to sell. You could even make some seasonal themed items for Valentines Day etc. You would have fun making those too. Yes, I often burn my fingers when using a glue gun too if I’m not very careful. I’ve heard you should have a glass of cold water beside you in case you burn yourself so you can dip your fingers in it to cool it down immediately. What does THAT say about how common it is to burn yourself while using it?! LOL!

  18. Very cute Brenda! I did make some hoop art a while ago by cutting a piece of embroidery to fit my hoop. You should definitely sell hoop art – it’s very big right now.

  19. What a great idea! I have lots of those hoops left over from crafting years ago. Almost sent them to Goodwill. I may re-think that idea now!

  20. I love your hoop art! Very clever and fun to look at!

  21. Love the collage. I did some punch embroidery in hoops years ago and trimmed them in lace. Now I’m thinking cross stitch…

  22. Annette Tracy :

Brenda, that is so cute. And I like you’ve found another way to be creative w/out using the sewing machine! Yup, I’ve had those burns, too. Seems just part of the fun. Yes, make more of those!

  23. This reminds me of the crafts done with hoops back in the ’80s, during the country decorating phase, but yours has a freshness to it because of the felt flower. But it’s also quite vintage with the old photos and the card. Really nice!

Remember the wall art done with straw hats back in those days, usually with dried flowers and ribbons? Maybe a straw hat would also lend itself to crafting with old photos and felt flowers. Same goes for grapevine wreaths. Lots of possibilities! I’m in the mood for crafting something, and appreciate how you’ve given me some ideas.

  24. It’s beautiful Brenda! Love the historic look. I’ve always loved mixed media pieces.

  25. I am getting into embroidering on felt, and would love to make some of these with felt, buttons and beads – I’ll have to get some little hoops! Thanks for the inspiration!

  26. I just Pinned this project for my youngest daughter. She just took home a big hoop that I had on hand and I know she will create something lovely with it. You have such wonderful inspiration for her.

  27. Oh-That embroidery hoop art has come so far from the days of geese appliqued on fabric in a hoop and surrounded by eyelet. Do you remember those? This looks GREAT and I love the idea. I think I have a few of those hoops stuck away somewhere. My granddaughter would love doing this- great idea! xo Diana

  28. I have not tried any hoop art yet, unless you count the embroidered towel I made for a gift.
I don’t. I think you mean as in altered art. So no. But your’s is so pretty! I’m surprised at the muted tones…I bet you make some that are going to have a pop of red in them!
I did pick up a zippered pouch with several small hoops in it. Thinking I’d make something with them. But…I may just sell them in my shop. I’m trying to move things OUT!
Love your artwork and I bet you could sell many in your etsy. So sorry to hear about the aggravation in your leg. You’re still healing I’m sure. Take it easy. Have you tried using the other foot to sew? Not easy I’m sure, but if you’ve ever driven ” a stick” then maybe you can get the hang of it.

    Have a great week, Pat

  29. You did a great job! I have been seeing this on the internet. People use different sizes too. I think the possibilities are endless here for sure.

  30. Absolutely lovely!

  31. You did a great job, Brenda. I have thought about trying this and now you have given me some inspiration.
    Hugs,
    Laura

  32. I absolutely love the abundant candles look…..
