Pecking Order

Judy and I just got back from a local burger place where the burgers are old-fashioned and greasy and the French fries are to die for. Probably had a million calories. The cholesterol would probably take down a moose. But if that was my last meal, I could die happy.

I just took a picture of my nearly two week old mums. Yes, nearly two weeks old. They look better than the cotton lace bow even, which is starting to droop. These flowers have true staying power. And all I do is change the water every other day.

It looks like this big black hen is giving this little rooster a good talking to. Wonder what he did to deserve such a pecking? Oh well, he looks like he’s standing up to her pretty well. The other one is clearly staying out of the fray.

din7

This group on the other side looks much happier.

This small painting is on the wall of the dining room. I picked it up in a junk store. I am ready for the real thing. The flowers of spring time. I bet you are too.

I’m sharing my much-ado-about-nothing-much with Elaine’s Sunny Simple Sundays.

  1. Those real fried burgers are usually the best. I am past due for one. :)

  2. You and me both!

  3. I have always liked the taste of an old-fashioned drugstore fried burger than a charcoal grilled one! I’ll try to remember to change the water in my cut flowers every other day if that is what made yours last so long. Lovely painting!

  4. At first I thought oh no Brenda, what happened, when I read the title…lol.

    Great collection of roosters.

  6. A greasy burger and fries sound great, Brenda. It will be winter here at least until the end of April.

  7. I wondered if you were out because I had not heard back from you. You are making me immensely jealous but also happy with all your chicken decor this last week.

  8. The link party is up by the way.

  9. We’ve got another foot of snow headed our way tomorrow, so spring is a long way off. Now if it would just snow enough that I could get a “snow day” to stay home and play on Monday!

  10. Sounds like the perfect supper to me. Your hens make such a sweet vignette. Love them!
Hope you are having a GREAT weekend!
    Cindy

  11. Brenda,
Your mums are holding up marvelously:) We have snow here so no Spring in the near future for us:(

  12. The mums are so pretty and I agree they are the best and most long lasting flowers! I must agree with you that good ole fashioned hamburgers and fries are the best!! Hope you have a good Sunday!
    hugs,
    Linda

  13. Hi, Brenda

I see you’ve been “tweaking” your blog design; a little tinkering can be fun.

Tulips may well be my favourite spring flower! I love how they pop up early in the garden and seem full of promise for good things ahead.

  14. I love a good burger!! I made Monte Cristo’s for dinner , fried in tons of butter. That’s a heart attack waiting to happen! LOVE the painting…hurry spring!

    XO,
    Jane

  15. I had various bulbs going on here and they are all done now. Just the carnations are going and I probably bought them around the same time as you got your mums. I am thinking those two are good long lasting buys! :)

LOL I love the big rooster giving the little hen a talking to pic :) I just posted a super silly one about my dogs and being stir crazy….I think humor will get me through the rest of this month if nothing else :) Hope it’s the same for you :)

  16. Such wonderful Chickens and birds.. love them!
And the tulips also… nice photos.
Snow, well I now live in Florida and don’t
miss the midwestern sub zero and 10′ of
snow 5 months out of the year…
We were in the 70′s and so sunny today…
not to make you feel bad or anything.
    big smile here

Oh there’s nothing better than good salty greasy food that fills you up! I have a weakness for that too even though I worry about what it does to my body. Indulgence every now and then can be good though (for the soul). LOL! Your mums re very pretty. We had a taste of warmer weather today and it felt good! I’m looking forward to being able to plant flowers on my front porch in the next month or so. Still no snow here (not even last year). Sometimes living in the south makes you feel like you missed something before Spring comes.

  25. Hi, Brenda…
Here in West Texas, we don’t look forward to spring very much as it generally brings LOTS of wind and sand. Most of the time, however, at the end of spring…just getting into summer, we have some AWESOME days. And I do so love it when my rose bushes and Rose of Sharon start blooming.
This summer, if our house sells quickly, we will be in a new place with NO flowers around. I hope to get some planted right away. Maybe do container gardening……
I know you went thru this last summer. Is your back yard now full of flowers??

  26. Brenda
Oh I’m so ready for spring !!!!! Ready to get my hands dirty and feel the sun ! Hope your happy and healthy

  27. I don’t eat hamburgers, but I love good old fashioned fries every once in a while. I can’t wait for real spring flowers.
    Hugs,
    Laura

  28. Funny that you just had a burger and fries…I rarely eat burgers. In fact, I hadn’t had one in several years. But last night I went out to dinner with a friend, and for whatever reason, I was in the mood for a GOOD burger. I ordered one with beer-battered fries and even though it was a ton of food – much, much more than I usually eat – and a gazillion calories – I devoured every bite! It was absolutely delicious. Love the painting you found.

  29. I love your painting, great find!

  30. How I love your cozy little chickens! As always, your home is welcoming and friendly, Brenda.
Your painting is a splendid reminder that Spring is right around the corner.
    Blessings,
    Carolynn

Oohhh, I shouldn’t have skipped lunch today. I am now hungering for fresh cut french fries from Ty’s at 15th and Harvard, or Webber’s at 37th and Peoria.
