Feedback & Freshly Laundered Sheets

I got a lot of great feedback about the frugal post I wrote yesterday. Maybe we should do this on a more regular basis and have tips in the comment section so we'll all be super frugally smart!

A reader wrote me that she uses her K-cups for her Keurig twice, and can't tell a difference in taste. Well by golly, that means I could get double the use for the same price! Thanks for that wonderful tip.

I got an email from someone who said her mother doesn't drive, and that ordering from Walmart.com would really help her. Ah, the feeling of more independence. I know that one well.

Just think how when life gives you lemons and you manage to squeeze enough out to make lemonade, all the new ideas you must come up with. It is a learning experience and for me it also opened new avenues of thinking.

It had never occurred to me to order my household items and some groceries from there until I got hurt. Then it was a "have to figure something out pretty quick" sort of thing. And the thought of actually going to Walmart, hurt or not, just makes my heart pound. All the people, the motorized carts, the distracted people with cell phones...

It is cloudy out today. I am washing sheets. I love freshly laundered sheets. Then I spray a tiny bit of lavender on them.

I've been online and now I'm overdue for my one cup of coffee. Wait! I can now have two cups, courtesy of a tip from a wonderful reader.

I'll be back this afternoon with Tweak It Tuesday.

  1. I think it's wonderful all the tips we share with one another through our blogs. I hope you'll report back to us on how your second cup of coffee tasted. That's a great money saving tip if it works.

  2. Thanks again for sharing. I work 11+ hours a day, and sometimes I just want to relax on the weekend, and I really don't like fighting the crowds at Wal-Mart so I was glad to learn about this. It's nice to hear the "real" stories,a not always about the perfectly placed decor. Thanks for the "real" inspiration you shared! Your post gave me some new insight to continuing blogging, as I was thinking of giving it up, as I am tiring of all the "perfect" posts! Hope you enjoy that second cup of coffee.

  3. Brenda, I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and bought one of those little wire mesh baskets for my Keurig. I also bought a 10.8 oz. container of my favorite coffee at Walmart (Folgers's). It is the Breakfast blend, mild roast. All if have to do is wash the grounds out of the little basket every time I want a fresh cup of coffee. No K-cups involved. If you don't care for Folgers's the other idea, using K-cups twice sounds like a fantastic idea.. I hope it works for you.
I, too, love fresh clean sheets on my bed.. I would love to be hanging them outside in the fresh air to dry too.
Enjoy your day. I'm glad you and "Lucy" could have lunch together.
    Hugs,
    Charlotte in Va.

  4. Brenda,
I live with my adult son and his two teenage children. We have a Keurig and share a K-cup. He usually gets up earlier than I do and uses the cup first. I like my coffee a bit stronger than it comes out the second time, so I splurged and bought myself a really good quality instant (just a tiny jar). I wet a spoon and shake it off and dip it into the jar of instant. Whatever sticks to the spoon is mixed with the second use of the K-cup. For me it makes a great cup of coffee. I have one single square of dark chocolate with my morning coffee it starts my day off perfect.
I love all your tips. I'm so excited about ordering from WalMart. They are the only store where I can find my favorite stain remover. I also love reading all the comments. You have the best followers. Have a blessed day.

  5. I guess I save money by never having been a coffee drinker. It drives me nuts that when our son visits, he gets up in the morning and goes to Starbucks. I just think it is a ridiculous use of money.

  6. Yep, she's right.. When we had our Keurig my husband used to use the K cup twice to. You just give a good shake to mix up the coffee grounds again..I also use Walmart.com for food shopping at times. between my health and my husband bad back it's SO much easier to have the heavy stuff delivered and with free shipping you can't go wrong..

    Have a GREAT day!

  8. I love your frugal tips, too. You put together a lot of helpful information in that post. Isn't it wonderful to live in this great nation and have choices? And share our ideas? Enjoy your day my friend!

  9. I'll have to pass the K cups tip on to my daughter, she loves her Kuerig but not the price of the cups. And I have to go back to your last post and see the rest of the tips.

Do you have a new background color? I love it, it looks so sunny and happy!

    XO,
    Jane

  10. I found that ordering directly from Keurig is most economical for me. You can join their club (free) and get a discount and earn points. I can usually also find an additional offer code online. Shipping is free when you order $45 or more (about 4 24 cup boxes). I recently used some of my points to buy a coffee maker for my son's birthday gift. With points it was $60.

  12. I love freshly laundered sheets too!
I love how they feel so crisp when you put them on the bed!
I also like seeing them blowing in the wind.

I like when frugal minds think together too. Can't wait to read some blogger tips.

  13. Love the two cups form 1 idea! We have a keurig at school and that might be quite handy. Actually Worker Bee bought me a reusable cup that I fill with my own beans. Yum! Just out of curiosity, what kind of lavender spray do you use? Homemade maybe? I love the smell of lavender.

  14. I like the coffee idea, my Gram uses those and I will pass the tip on to her.

  15. The blogs I read most are those about frugality. I have a hard time understanding how people live life not being frugal.

Never heard the tip about using kcups twice. My husband would never go for it, but I will be trying it. I come from a long line of people who would never dream of only using a teabag once.

As times get harder in countries that are used to easy living, frugality will come in hand.

  16. Yes! A regular frugality feature would be great, Brenda.

Don't know if you have access to a Costco membership...I buy K-Cups for my mom all the time and they're the most reasonably priced. San Francisco Bay 160 count box is only 51.99 (includes shipping). The coffee is a very high quality, quite delicious and they offer a variety of types. I've seen them at the Costco warehouse for around $26 for a box of 80. The best price I've seen! Perhaps someone you know has a membership?
My mom reuses her K-Cups all the time.

  17. Brenda I really enjoyed the frugal post also. I would love to know how you like the coffee from the Kcup the 2nd time. I too am so glad you are back! You just sound so much happier then you have in months! Big Hugs!

  19. We use our Kcups twice also. My hubby likes his stronger than I do so he takes the first run through and I take the second. Works great. Also if you have access to a store that has the flavored coffee beans where you can grind it in store, then you can have your different flavors in the re-usable cups. We do that too. I will be checking the Costco too. Thanks. Love your blog.

  20. I agree with Becky. I love your blog but I really love when you write a personal entry! It is like a visit with a friend over morning coffee, (me diet coke, that I am always defending the use of to my husband and always looking for the coupons). The frugality comments are so interesting and make me think. I save money by not going shopping! I don't need anything, I send my husband to the store as he buys only what is on the list and is not tempted by extras. But we do like wine with dinner!
