Just Blue

Sometimes, I just want to feast my eyes on blue. Blue and white. Blue and anything. Such a soothing color. Promotes tranquility.

Blue by candlelight. The flame dancing in front of a blue and white plate I picked up somewhere.

A blue jay in the yard perched on the wood fence.

Old crocks. All rimmed in blue. I pick them up at garage sales for a song. Love these crocks.

I wonder where the saying came from: feeling blue. Blue is a happy color. Why wouldn't they say: feeling brown. Feeling black. Why blue?

Sleeping on blue and white embroidered pillows. Covering up with a blue quilt. Going to sleep and dreaming of blue skies. Fluffy white clouds. Joy, for me, is a deep cobalt blue.

  1. Well, I do love blue and white. Always have and I have it in my home off and on over the years. I do know where the saying "feeling blue" comes from though-unless my Dad lied to me...lol When the big ships used to come home after expeditions they would fly a flag with blue on it if they had lost their captain or an officer (not the crew though)..so the people on shore would know that someone was lost to the sea. Kinda sad, isn't it? xo Diana

  2. Hi Brenda. I love blue too. Used to be my favorite color. Now I think every color is my favorite. My kitchen was blue and yellow for years and my living room had mostly blue furniture at one time. Lovely snaps. I don't know where 'feeling blue' came from. Have to look that one up. Have a nice weekend.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)
P.S. I should have read what Diana said. Hmm...it is sad

  4. I have the prettiest softest blue in my bedroom that I just love. Those pillow cases are beautiful. Love the blue and greens! Sort of a lost art embroidery.

  14. I love blue too! When I got married, my husband even had in our vows that he would always appreciate the colors blue and white. (He's a funny guy!) Your pillowcase is so sweet. I have some of those stashed around here somewhere. I need to find them, wash them, and use them! My grandma always made us some embroidered pillowcases when we were kids. I wish I'd treasured them more. Thanks for the charming post.

  15. So many pretty things! I love blue! If I had to pick a favorite...and that would be hard to do...it would probably be blue. I find that I wear it more than any other color, and I probably have more blue transferware than any other color and more everything else in blue than any other. It's just beautiful! :-)

  16. I love blue and white china as well. I haven't used mine for a while! Somehow it feels fresh and clean. I, too, love the colour blue. Yesterday the sky was the most beautiful blue.....not a cloud in sight! I knew where the 'sky blue' came from. Funnily enough, I changed my bed yesterday and I'm sleeping on blue sheets as well! 17. Blue & white, how can I not be in love with this post ? My favorite color combo, classic, peaceful, and a mainstay in our home.

  18. Pretty embroidery on the pillows. Have always loved 'blues'; the quieter ones, with hints of grey in them. My bedroom is painted in a powdery, pastel-y blue and I find this extremely calming and soothing, yet crisp and clean. Combined with white (and even red for more vibrant vibes), blue is brilliant in all its hues.

  20. There's nothing that I like better than to look to the Heavens and see "blue skies smiling at me, nothing but blue skies, do I see". Remember that song ?
    Your pillow cases are lovely.
Have a lovely, hopefully blue sky, weekend.
    Hugs, Charlotte in Va.

  24. Lovely photos as always Brenda. I love all color. For me, it's more about the intensity rather than the hue itself, but blue has always been a favorite, especially for clothing. Must have something to do with my baby blues ;).
