Computer Gremlins & Ghosts & Strange Boxes

I wanted you subscribers (thank you) that have been getting old random posts of mine at about thirty posts a time to know that if that happens again, it will be mighty strange. Because I took all day yesterday and went through over 1100 posts (posts I could see in Draft, but would not publish; yeah, weird) and deleted them all. As in gone.

So if they crop up somehow again, they're coming from a place that is not my computer, folks. I've cleaned house. I hated to see them go, but they wouldn't publish. And when I tried, somehow some of my blue dates that are above the posts of the "new" blog disappeared. Yeah, weird.

I've gone through the html with a fine-toothed comb. I'm no expert at this, but I saw nothing amiss. That of course doesn't mean much.

I think I have found someone, a reader's son, who is much more computer savvy than I am, who's going to dig in and take a look. I've tried to find help to no avail.

They need to start a new position and have a degree for something very much needed in our day to day world: blog technicians. A whole new job description.

People have been asking if anything else is amiss.

Yesterday morning I woke up to an email that said my cell phone photos were ready to be shared. Well, if you know me at all, you know I hate cell phones. They're distracting nuisances.

And worse, sometimes people driving while they're on the stupid things accidentally kill other innocent people or themselves. And their lives are forever changed.

I do have one for emergencies, but I have no idea if it takes photos. I wouldn't know how if it did.

I just want some semblance of normalcy while blogging. If that's possible.

This happened to be my three errand day of the week. Which means I can go out and get things done. One errand was a little unexpected. I finally saw a Jiffy Lube and thought, well, I don't really need an oil change yet (haven't had one since I moved here because I so seldom drive), but I'd better get things looked over.

I was really lucky. I met a very kind man named Mike (Goose). Don't ask me about that. I don't know why the nickname, but it's on his business card. Anyway, that was the first time in all my years of driving that I've actually had an oil change and haven't been told I need a new oil filter.

You know, they bring you these things that are from the innards of your car, which don't mean beans to me, and show you how icky they are. And yep, ma'am, you need to take care of this right now.

He was very honest. Hard to find that these days. Said I didn't really need one. He didn't try to sell me things. Another first. They rotated my tires, gave me a first time customer discount, and I got out of there for less than $60.

Checked everything out, added all those things you're suppose to add and cleaned everything they're suppose to clean. Vacuumed, which I must admit (head hanging in shame) I have not done since I moved here. Filled my power steering fluid, wind shield wiper fluid, etc.

He did say my back windshield wiper had about had it. I said that's okay, I drive so little I never can remember how to turn it on anyway.

So you ladies in Tulsa who are looking for an honest place to take your car and not get nickeled and dimed to death, this is the Jiffy Lube at 2726 S. Harvard. Ask for Goose. He'll take good care of you.

I have no idea why a box just appeared in the lower left-hand corner. Maybe you don't see it, but I do. Just appeared out of nowhere as I'm about to sign off and I can't erase it. Sorry about that.

Casper, you'd better straighten up now or we're going to come to blows.

  1. Box is there, it doesn't seem to do anything. Great deal on oil change/fluids.

  2. I am glad you found an honest mechanic. They are a rare occurrence. Get the box of salt and walk around the perimeter of the house. Don't worry about the bp, you are not ingesting it! Sage burning might help, to get rid of negativity. I enjoy all the New Age hocus pocus stuff. lol xo

    1. Oh, I wasn't worried about the salt is bad for bp thing. Just a joke. Isn't that box strange? Cropped up just before I was about to sign off.

  3. "Blog technician" sounds like a winner to me. I know just enough HTML to be dangerous, but it doesn't stop me from going full-speed ahead. I just recently solved a problem I'd been having and it only took me all day. HA!

I'd be curious to know what the HTML code for the little box might be. Odd how it is there and no purpose that is apparent.

Great news on a mechanic to trust. A rare find.

    1. I was adding my signature and the box just appeared. The other day I tried to add photos and they ended up at the bottom on the right hand side about an inch tall. I was able to erase them, but not the box.

  5. To show you how technically savvy I am, I actually tried to comment in it after I read this...does bode well for the old brain cells, either! Hope your tech problems are soon far behind you. Yay for honest mechanics!

    1. I know. You don't find honest anybodies very often anymore it seems. That's funny about trying to comment in the box. You can't do anything with it. Can't put anything in it. Can't move it. Just there.

    1. That is not an option right now. Finances and bankruptcy, remember? No one will rent to you under those conditions. Stuck with Casper.

  8. Blog technician.....I think you're on to something, Brenda! Send him/her my way when you find one. I have a love hate relationship with technology. I want to be able to spruce up my blog without having to earn a master's degree in computer science first. :)

    1. I think it would open up a whole new field. I think blog designers need some sort of official designation too. Would help in terms of trust.

  10. I'm going to add what I think is newsworthy or somehow worth something to folks in Pages on my Navigation bar. I copied some of the info before I deleted it. I'll be starting on that soon.

  11. Ooh, blog technician - I like that! You're lucky that you found a nice, honest guy at your Jiffy Lube. The one here in my town is a complete rip-off (the highest priced oil change place in town) and the guy who one time worked on my son's car, almost ruined it. It was a few years ago so I can't remember exactly what happened, but he put some kind of fluid in the wrong reservoir. He had to pay another mechanic to flush it all out.

  12. Boy, this has been crazy for you after all. I can't imagine having all these troubles. I am glad you found somebody trustworthy to work on the car for you. I know that is such a security for us women who have to deal with cars ourselves. Can't wait to hear what your new blog technician has to say.

  15. Hi. Thanks for sharing that photo of the hot pink bee balm (or monarda or bergamot, depending on what people call it). I love that color. My bee balm that was that color just shrunk up and disappeared. But, I have a lot of pale lavender bee balm that I brought here from our previous home. It doesn't seem like the ghosts have gotten into your garden, which is good.

  16. I said hot pink, but maybe it is really red bee balm. Hard to remember, since mine died!

  17. Well, I hope Casper finally goes away to where ever ghosts go! I have to tell you, I did enjoy reading some of your old posts through email...and I saved them so I could finish later. How wonderful to finally get some help! ;)

  18. You might check with your local community college for a student willing to take you on as an "assignment. I have used college students for setting up web sites and helping me with my blog(s).

  19. Happy to hear that you had a great experience at Jiffy Lube. Your experience gives me faith. I have not been so lucky at garages. I think they take one look at me and think "silly little blonde" and it all goes downhill from there. About the paranormal monkey business ~ perhaps you have a Casper blogger wannabe and is using you to get his message heard. Maybe you should set up his own blog and leave him alone. I wonder if you set up a blog for him if posts would start to magically appear??? Could be a book into a movie Brenda. Think of it as an opportunity.

  22. At the place that I worked at before, when the IT guy moved servers, he would tell us that we wouldn't lose our email. Sometimes we did lose a small portion. Other times they would trickle in here and there with no rhyme or reason...reminded me of socks stuck to the side of a dryer loosening one by one. So I am a tech idiot for the most part but perhaps some of these posts are the lost ones slowly coming back from the servers that they were on prior to the move ? Not sure ....

  23. Forty years ago when I began taking care of my own car I was told to keep an extra oil and air filter in my car so that I would have it to give to the garage man if he pulled that dirty filter trick. I also told that most windshield wipers are reversible. Yours may need to be flipped especially if you do not drive often. Take care of you, your home, and your car. Smile...

  24. Never a dull moment is there? I love the term 'blog technician'. If someone actually did that, their calendar would be filled.

There's a reasonable explanation for the things that have been happening, and I hope you find our what it is if for no other reason than to have peace of mind.
