The Plan: Relax & Read A Good Book

I know some of you gals are gearing up for fall decorating. It's just too hot here to get myself motivated.

I seem to just want to sit with the pupsters and read blogs and pin on Pinterest.

Maybe doing the kitchen took all my creative energy. I know it will come back. It always does.

And I've started September's book club pick, Sweet Salt Air by Barbara Delinsky. I've read about three chapters.

I find it very interesting because it's about a blogger. She is a foodie blogger. And like so many of us, her blog has become that special place that is her port in the storm, so to speak.

She and a childhood friend have gotten together after about a decade apart to co-write a book. The plot involves lots of secrets of course. What would a good book be without drama and conflict?

So that's my plan tonight. Get ready for bed and read. Doesn't that sound like bliss?

Got any big weekend plans in your neck of the woods? Or just hoping to relax and read a book?

  4. Sounds good to me! I can't get into Autumn yet either since we moved to Florida and it is still hot. But cooler weather should be here by October, and then I'll be happy!

  5. I love the name of that book,Brenda. How funny- I sat and read a while today for the first time in months!!!! I am not quite ready to decorate for Fall yet, either. I am enjoying this last bit of summer- xo Diana

  12. Getting ready for bed and reading sounds perfect to me. Brian and I went out for dinner tonight (we usually do on Fri. nights), ran a couple of errands, and now I'm just reading blogs and will delve into my book later. Brian goes to bed early because he gets up at 4:00 a.m. for work. I'm a night owl, so we have different schedules. Don't know what I'm going to do tomorrow or Sunday for a change - might hit a garage sale tomorrow.

  13. Hi Brenda! I agree - it's too hot to think fall but I guess I'll jump on the band wagon soon. The book sounds good. I need to start reading more. I used to read all the time - before computers and blogging! :) Now I love your snaps and the one with the little pincushion and pins is just darling. Did you make it?
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia :)

  14. That sounds good to me right about now! I've been gone most of today running a million errands and I'm pooped. I am just now able to sit down and surf blogs and have quiet time. My dog is curled up beside me and the news is on the tv. I'm playing catch up with the world right now. LOL! Hope your book turns out to be a good one.

  16. Everything looks lovely at the cozy little house. Reading sounds wonderful - I'm trying to shrink the pile next to my bed. I am reading a first novel by the son of our neighbors called Let the Water Hold Me Down and I am thoroughly enjoying it. The neighbors gave copies to many of us on the street and are so proud of their son - a college English Lit teacher.

  17. Sounds like a wonderful way to spend the evening. It's way too hot here in So Cal for fall decorating. I'm thinking about it, just not acting on it yet!

  18. Hi Brenda!
I hoping to get a few minutes of relaxing in this weekend. But truthfully, I'm going to be working on my settee/ couch. I don't want to lose the momentum. I've been going at a pretty steady pace (for me)
I absolutely LOVE the last photo in this post of your living room. Of course your home always looks lovely. But there is something about this corner, the neutrals with pops of primary colors...and your collection of white pitchers/creamers... It's not overly busy.
    Very restful.
I'm hoping after my settee and chair are finished I'll be able to pare-down the furnishings and things in the living room giving it a restful arrangement. I always find inspiration here.
...have a peaceful weekend my friend, and stay cool. Pat

  20. I am rereading a book I have on hand called "Pinecones" very relaxing.

  21. That book sounds good. I'm working tomorrow but off on Sunday...which I'm excited about. Might go to a new antique mall..but I probably won't. I know I should be posting fall stuff but it sure does not feel like fall. It has to cool down a little before I feel like getting any fall stuff out.

  22. Brenda,

Just finished that book and I loved it. Yes, there are some secrets and twists. I am packing boxes to be shipped back to Florida. Then I shall choose another book!

  23. Same here Brenda, I cannot get into the "Pumpkin Patch" in my basement yet either that beckons to be displayed for it's three month stint. It is going to be near 90 here next week. I crave the kick in the pants I need to want to get out cozy sweaters and jean jackets that fit like an old friend..but my tank tops are laughing at me :). So...maybe next weekend..until then your idea of books, bliss and bedtime sound awful good!!

  24. I want to see if the library has that book....I've read her books in the past and I liked them. My middle son and GF are moving in together...to an interim house until they find a bigger place. I helped with moving some of her stuff last week; last night I made a pot of sauce with the garden tomatoes that were ripe thinking that having a spaghetti lunch or supper for the movers might be helpful today or tomorrow. My oldest son has been home from Missouri for over a week. Hospice said that his grandma ( on his dads side / 1st husband ) would not last the weekend. That was last week. She finally passed yesterday afternoon so there will be a funeral coming up :(

  25. Books are always number 1 on my weekend list. Right now I am reading a collection of short stories by Alice Munro (DEAR LIFE) who is one of the best writers of this genre.

Sewing curtains is my other big thing this weekend. I just finished the ones for the MBR which I meant to have done by May 1, but life got in the way. Now I am starting on the DR and the guest room, hoping to be finished by Dec. 1. We'll see how that goes!

  26. I was trying to sign up for your book club and it seems that when I register it takes me to a huge page instead of to just your club. How do I join just CLH club?

  27. Never mind, I figured it out. I had to sign up with Goodreads before I get into this particular group. I think I'm 'in' now! :))

  28. My plans revolve around preparing more food for the freezer for winter and finding some time to curl up with a cross stitch mandala I began earlier in the week. Its cold here but I'm not ready for it so there won't be any seasonal decorating. I'm hoping if I deny it's coming it will hold off. :-)

  29. Relaxing and reading a book sounds heavenly to me right now but I'm so exhausted at the end of the day all I want to do is sink into bed and sleep. Redoing that 1920's house is kicking my behind and it's all I can do to take off my shoes at the end of the day. More of the same sanding, painting, scraping wallpaper is in store for me for the next several weeks, ugh. Enjoy your read, I'm envious hehe.
