Diane's Demise On The Black List

Raymond Reddington giving Liz the information on The Cypress Agency.

The man behind the Cyprus Agency is Michael Shaw, a disturbed man who was shuffled around the foster system as a boy until he was rejected by a couple that had adopted him because he wasn't perfect enough for them.

In the final disturbing twist, Shaw is the father of all 27 children who were bred in his creepy fertility farm.

One thing about last night's episode of The Blacklist, I cannot for the life of me stop humming Gordon Lightfoot's Sundown, which was played at the end of the show. I hummed it last night, and it's still with me and it's going on 5 p.m.

I hope tomorrow morning I wake up and it has mysteriously retreated into the nether region of my brain.

In case you've forgotten the lyrics, here they are:
I can see her lyin' back in her SATIN dress
In a room where ya do what ya don't confess
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stairs
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stairs

She's been lookin' like a queen in a sailor's dream
And she don't always say what she really means
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain

I can picture every move that a man could make
Getting lost in her lovin' is your first mistake
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stairs
Sometimes I think it's a sin
When I feel like I'm winnin' when I'm losin again

I can see her lookin' fast in her faded jeans
She's a hard lovin' woman, got me feelin' mean
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stairs
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stairs
Sometimes I think it's a sin
When I feel like I'm winnin' when I'm losin' again

Now you can hum along as you watch the last minutes of last night's show. The showdown between Diane and Red, who sits in darkness waiting for her. She, in her white satin robe, seemingly so sure of herself.

Red sitting there, just another long day for him. With one more job to do. He can't hide his disdain for Diane. At first she is the same arrogant woman she's been all along. He shoots her. Tells her she talks too much.

Diane tempts him, holding onto her wound which is turning her white satin robe crimson red, with the knowledge of what happened to his family that night.

He tells her if she knows, then so does someone else. It is a poignant moment, as you see years of pain move across his face like a shadow.

  2. Excellent synopsis, Brenda! I LOVED this episode, especially the final scene! Thanks for the video, so I can watch it a few more times. As for the song, it will be in my head for days.

I don't know how Tom and Liz's relationship can possibly survive Liz's decision not to adopt. Especially with Tom's burgeoning relationship with Jolene.

  4. I'm wondering exactly what roll Jolene plays in this scenario? Is she a plant from Red? When I heard the song and they panned out to the windows and Red is looking out so wistfully, I thought, this music is perfect for her demise!

  5. I loved the show!! The ending was stunning to me...his face is so amazing. What an actor. I think Tom and Liz are doomed. So who was the gal Tom was with in the car???

  6. Wow! Just watched it! WHAT a story line. He is an AMAZING actor. Just the way feelings play across his face without an uttered word is crazy, isn't it?
Not sure what is going to happen with Liz and Tom. She was right-there is definitely something wrong between them. I expect an all out effort from him to "fix" it. That bit at the end with the girl in the car touching his arm stirs up a whole different hornet's nest. I have always thought he was a mole...but who knows with all the twists and turns this is taking.

Okay- I missed the first few episodes because they only went back so far. Who is the woman who came into the house after Diane had been killed? He apologized and she said -don't worry-WE are used to cleaning up your messes. How does she figure into the story?

  7. She works for Red. She comes in and cleans up after he kills someone. I only saw her once before. Not sure if she makes them disappear or just makes the evidence go away.

I'm still trying to figure out Tom is a bad guy. Or Red is just setting things up so she wont end up with him. Hmmmm.

  8. TOM is a bad guy...I think it will come out next season. Red is Lizzie's real father and that may come out 2nd or 3rd season. I like to watch some episodes twice...this will be one of those...it was really weird.

  9. The Blacklist became my favorite near the end of last season. Last episode was jaw dropping. I agree, he is a great actor. He says so much with so few words. Your blog has become one of my favorites. You are a skilled writer and love your photography as well. I don't trust Tom, but must admit, I let Red's comments influence me there. Please don't stop blogging.

  12. Had to watch the show before I could read your blog. I am so enjoying Red's character. I see the end of a marriage in a not so distant future. Just wonder what Tom is involved in and who has planted Jolene. Love this show!!

  13. Me too. Perfect song to end the scene and the show! Who picked it out?
