Java Talk #2

Well, poor Charlie was scared half to death. I will worry myself all day about my baby being without me or his sister. Since he's over five years old, they suggested I get blood work done to make sure he can handle the anesthesia. Struck fear in my heart! And to top it off, it's about 20 degrees outside and he was shaking so.

So let's get started with our coffee klatsch, tea time, whatever.

I watched The Blacklist Monday night. I was afraid I was going to get too sleepy, and I don't tape things.

I thought Red displayed an incredible amount of facial expressions in that episode. Even more than usual. And that story he was telling about his family, whether there was any truth to it or not, had me spellbound. I "felt" every emotion he displayed. My, he's good!

I'm reading a book of short stories right now. First thing I actually just ordered because I wanted to. A dear friend sent me an Amazon gift card for my birthday last week, so that's one of the things I got with it.

Usually I get my reading material from the publisher in galley form (not the last print) and review them. But I wanted short stories. I've had a hard time trying to write a novel. Fits and starts. So I thought maybe I should try short stories. I've never written them before.

I watch TV only at night, and usually am online while Law & Order (any edition) is on in the background. I've seen most of them many times. I also watch Criminal Minds. That's it. Oh, sometimes NCIS with Mark Harmon. Wow, he's only getting more handsome with age!

My routine at night is to do my yoga stretching around 6 p.m. Then I take my second shower of the day to relax. Then the dogs and I share our baked potato. All they get is potato with nothing on it. Because they eat prescription food and a little potato and a teaspoon of cottage cheese. Later I usually have yogurt or a bowl of cereal.

I'm either reading blogs online or reading. Usually a little of both. I'll be online for awhile, but I like to read before bed. They say it's more relaxing to read a book than to look at a computer screen. I don't stay up late. I'm in bed by 10 p.m. The dogs too.

Okay, do share. Top off your cup and let's chat. About TV, books or anything you want really. Remember, you can comment on the comments.

  1. I watch the Blacklist but it is loosing me soon if they don't do something about Lizzie - that relationship of hers seems to have no place in this show the only good actor on that show is James Spader and he can't carry the show by himself forever. I do watch both the NCIS shows and love them and Downton Abbey - other than those I turn to Netflix and pick what I want to watch while I quilt. I am a quilter and I am always making something - usually by hand although I do some piecing and recently a little quilting by machine - but mostly I am a hand person.

    1. I always liked piecing quilts by hand. Something very meditative about it. I don't get Lizzie either, but I feel like they will give us clues little by little. I love to watch James Spader, so I won't stop watching the show as long as he's doing his thing!

    2. I've only watched a few episodes of Black List and have to say that it was intense. I love james Spader. He's an excellent actor.

  2. I watch tv at night too, unless I have to watch Dora or Spongebob during the day with a certain 3 year old. The only reason I watch tv at night is because that is when my husband watches it, about 9:00 before bed. I bring my ipad and read blogs and interrupt what he is watching to ask him questions because I'm not paying good attention.

  3. Oops! I wrote my comment under yesterday's post. Brenda, I have to take a nap on Mondays, so I can stay up late enough to watch The Blacklist! Your poor baby! I'll be so relieved when this whole vet ordeal is over. Thinking of you...

  4. You know, I have never seen Dora or Spongebob. Am I missing anything??? Back in my day we had Popeye The Sailor Main, and Casper The Friendly Ghost. There was Mighty Mouse. Are you old enough to recall these?

    3. Brenda, I am with you; I have never watched Dora or Spongebob even tho the grands love them. We had the best kid's shows growing up. I miss Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Greenjeans.

    4. I watch Thomas the Train and Winnie The Pooh with my little Grandson. He use to love Daniel Tiger but has now grown to enjoy longer movies with more content.

    5. Wow! We're travelng down memory lane! Love it! Felix the Cat, Casper, Popeye and Mr. Kangaroo. I'm sure there are many more that I can't recall right now. Have never watched Sponge Bob or Dora. My grandkids weren't into those shows.

  5. I went into Target for a few groceries after I dropped Charlie Ross off. Did you know they now have Dunkin Donut creamer for your coffee. Almost got some, but the Coffee Mate is cheaper. Maybe I'll have to try that though. I love their coffee.

  7. If you have back or neck problems or stiffness, I think you will be glad you tried this. I would be miserable if I didn't do mine. The Blacklist has all its former episodes on the NBC website.

  8. As you know I'm a big Blacklist fan, but I do agree with Karen, I'm ready to find out what's going on with Lizzie and her hubby. Not sure how long they can string that one out. We watch some comedies here, and of course Person of Interest and Sherlock. We used to watch Criminal Minds, but some of them are getting so far out with the degree of crime, we have stopped. I just started reading a Lisa Jackson book and can't even tell you the name. My husband read it and it's in four parts now, it just fell apart at the spine. It was purchased at a thrift store second hand anyway, so this book has seen a lot of good use. In the evening I often paint with my water colors, or knit. I know you'll rest easy when you can pick up Charlie Ross and bring him home, hope it goes well for him.

  9. Abi is beside herself. Keeps crying. Can't figure out why I didn't bring Charlie home. It's so sad!

I'm ready to find out more about Lizzie and her hubster, but I figure it is part of the plot and will come out when they want it to for some reason. I agree, Criminal Minds use to be my fav show before The Blacklist, but now I have it on but usually am doing Pinterest or something while it's on. However, I think the dark-haired guy (what is his name?) is very handsome, though he never smiles on the show. (I never want a man again, but I'm not dead. I do notice an attractive male!)

    1. I love The Blacklist and will watch as long as it's on. James Spader is amazing. I wish they would move the Lizzie story along a little bit, but hey I'm enthralled so it's all good. I also love Scandal and it will be back this week! Parenthood is another show I love. I don't watch comedies, they start out so funny and then just turn DUMB. Oh well. I am usually on my computer while I watch TV anyway!

  10. I started the Blacklist but missed a few episodes. I watched it again Monday and again, I am hooked. James Spader is great in this role. My husband and I watch NCIS faithfully. And Brenda, I agree with you. Mark Harmon is getting more attractive every year. Funny side note is that our beagle is named Jethro after Gibbs on NCIS. We also enjoy the Voice. It is so far superior in talent to American Idol. Other than that, we occasionally catch Big Bang Theory on Thursdays and old movies on the weekends.

    1. I use to watch American Idol years ago, but it just got ridiculous in my opinion. I usually watch a few minutes of The Voice before The Blacklist comes on. Seems pretty good to me. Mark Harmon has the most engaging smile!

  11. I've watched The Bachelor for the past two nights.. I KNOW it's a waste of electricity and time. I haven't watched it since the beginning but thought I'd see who Juan Pablo picked for his potential wife. I wouldn't want that guy if he was covered in "gold bullion" . Hee hee.
I will be watching Survivor and Dancing with the Stars when those shows come back on. I love Big Bang Theory too. I saw that Jim Parsons is going to be the guest host on Saturday Night Live. He's a real card.
I also have to get my "soap" fix and watch The Young and the Restless faithfully.
Between watching the TV and getting on the internet I don't get as much done as I should otherwise.. I'm planning to get outside when the weather gets warmer and my yard dries out.
Brenda, I'm thinking about Charlie Ross.. Poor little boy.. I know he doesn't know what is happening to him. Abi will be so happy to see him when he comes home.. Will that be today ? I hope so.
We pet Moms hate to see our four legged babies have to get shots, blood tests, etc. and even have to go to the Vet.
I'll be waiting to hear that Charlie is doing fine..

Casper the Friendly Ghost and Popeye! Yep I remember

Sponge Bob...grands love him. NEVER paid much attention to it.....and then I saw someone on FB say that their kids couldn't watch it because it was inappropriate. So...curious about that I went and Googled it and came upon some lady with a long list of sexual innuendos in Spongebob. Well now even if that is true and it may well be whoever figured this out is sure a lot smarter than me, lol!! I would have never thought of any of it! :)

  14. I will always be a Spader fan, but some of these episodes of Black List get a little too far "out there" for me and I start losing interest. I like shows that have crimes that actually could happen and some of these are bordering on James Bond for me. I was never a Bond fan. Hugs to little Charlie.

  15. It seems like we have lots of shows we like in common. My favorites shows are Castle, Blacklist, NCIS, NCIS LA, Criminal Minds, Duck Dynasty, The Farm Kings, Big Bang Theory and Sons of Anarchy. I adore James Spader and he's such a brilliant actor. I'm getting a bit fed up with Lizzie and her marriage woes. Now it seems like they're setting the husband up to have an affair. Why bother? He just annoys me. As for reading more often than not I go for trash romance books by Debbie Macomber, Fern Michaels, Sherryl Woods and JoAnn Ross. I also love reading anything about homesteading and gardening that I can get my hands on.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I read Fern Michaels quite a bit. And I believe I've read Debbie Macomber. I also love gardening books. I've never even heard of some of the shows you mention. I used to get People magazine in the mail when I was married, and that kept me up on all the new shows and such. Now I'm too poor to buy that subscription!

I'm a night owl and always have been.

I had to give him soft foods for a few days, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, rice, etc. I also got Science Diet/Prescription Diet a/d canned dog food (critical care). We only get about three channels. I don't have cable, because I think it is expensive. I don't watch television, but I watched the Olympic ice skating.

We have Netflix. I don't use it, but my spouse uses it to watch series that are on Netflix.

I do enjoy Chopped and Diners Drive-Ins and Dives on Food Network. If I'm home during the day, the only time I turn on the TV is to watch Jeopardy.

So, what do I do in the evenings if I'm not watching TV? Some household chores - cleaning up the kitchen from dinner and running the dishwasher, perhaps folding some laundry. Brian and I play Backgammon and talk. I go on my laptop and look at blogs or FB or write email.

On Netflix I started watching "House of cards" Kevin Spacey and Robyn Wright are brilliant I. It. I watched a couple episodes of "orange is the new black" not sure if I will continue to watch this one. Have any readers watched Dexter? I watched for awhile and then got tired of it. The dark humor was entertaining for awhile. Brenda, I like NCiS a and yes mark H Ramon is handsome! Just picked up Dickens, "Great Expectations" from the library. Decided I. You can try your local library though (that's how we caught up) and also there are tons of places online to find the episodes. PBS.org has the most recent season (season 4) available online--you might check to see if it has seasons 1-3 available, too. 37. Blacklist!!! Oh, goodness. What a show. James Spader is amazing. It is one of those shows I find I have to put the computer down, not flip through a magazine, basically do nothing but watch because of the pace. This past week was interesting when he was telling the *evil woman* about his family tragedy. So, was it true or another of his lies? Where does Lizzie fit in to his life? What is up w/ the hubs and is that woman he keeps crossing paths with another *evil woman*, not 'just' a home wrecker? I don't get the relationship w/ her husband at all. She is so strong, so I don't understand how or why she keeps wavering in that relationship. The show certainly draws us in each week so that you can't wait til next Monday!! I can't even IMAGINE what the end of the season episode will be like to keep us guessing all summer. Will also miss Downton now that the very short season is over. Was much happier with the end of Season 4 than I was with Season 3. But such a LONG TIME to wait until next January to see it again. We are also NCIS fans. You are right, love Mark Harmon!! I also love to read. I don't enjoy reading mysteries as so many do, and have never been a fan. I loved Olive Kitteridge and just finished another of Elizabeth Strout's books, The Burgess Boys. Also really good. Sandra Dallas is another fav author. Love her books. And Jan Karon's Mitford series (read in order, of course!) So many books... so little time. Your Wed. Coffee Hour is really fun, Brenda!! Have a great day!

    2. I do believe this Jolene is a bad woman, and I think we're going to learn more about her next week. I believe the producers are using a bit of psychology with Lizzie. I believe she stays with Tom because she was a child who lost her parents, and kids like that never really feel that confident I don't think. So I think Tom was her stability.

And yes, Abi sure sniffed him once he got home. He seems fine.

I have to recommend a good book for everybody. "Follow the River" by James Alexander Thom. I read that book every winter! It's a true story of a woman that was taken by Indians and she made her way back to her family by walking 1000 miles through the wilderness. Amazing....just amazing what this woman went through. I like books about survival and this one is my favorite.

    1. My mothers maiden name is Mary Draper and the story "Follow the River" is about my ancestors. My line actually comes from John who was Mary's brother. Johns wife was also captured and it was her baby that was dashed against the corner of the cabin. There is less detail about Bettie, but after six years as the "adopted daughter" of an Indian Chief in a settlement at the locality of the present city of Chilicothe, Ohio, she was ransomed by her husband, having located her through reports from French trappers. After she was ransomed and returned to Draper's Meadow, they relocated at Draper's Valley near Pulaski. After her ransom she bore seven children.

Excellent book and it is about my ancestors. My mothers name is Mary Draper and the story is about Mary Draper Ingalls.
