These are a few favorite DIY projects I created while living in this rent house. I’ll be moving, so I’ll miss the ones I can’t take with me.
The lid turned kitchen towel holder:
To review some of the projects I’ve done in the past 6-8 months, I walked around the house and took snapshots of them.
The sewing machine table with stripes:
There was the little sewing machine table I painted using Frog Tape. I placed the Frog Tape where I could paint black strips. I’m normally not very accurate when I paint, but this came out great!
I was so pleased that the Frog Tape was strong enough to keep the paint from seeping underneath and ruining my straight lines.
The mason jar lights:
I took the modern light down from the dining room ceiling that was here when I moved in. Then I went to Lowes and found an adapter to put in the ceiling to hang the mason jar farmhouse lights.
I just love the glow of the light coming through the vintage Mason jars.
It is one of my favorite DIY projects to date.
I will be taking the Mason jars with me to the apartment I’m leasing. Maybe I will be able to find a way to replicate this DIY project.
The decoupaged kitchen cabinets:
I’ll miss my decoupaged cabinets that two magazines took notice of. I had such fun seeking out scraps of paper and graphics and gluing them onto the doors.
This kind of light is not for everyone, but I love it.
I like seeing all my pretties on display in my kitchen. As you know, I spray painted the vintage picnic basket red and now use it for storing things in.
Then there’s the old vintage cans I’ve collected.
And the veggie ceramic kitchen canisters I found at a garage sale many years ago. I still recall spotting them and rushing right over to grab them up before anyone else thought to!
I paid $5 for all of them.
The stenciled kitchen cart turned coffee bar:
So that’s a few of my favorite DIY projects I’ve created while I lived in this little blue house.
The coffee bar will go with me of course. It was doomed to the trash when I moved here and I rescued it. Then I stenciled a coffee cup stencil on the doors.
I’ll probably paint it. Likely I’ll get tired of this look and yearn for another. Such is the life of someone who loves to decorate and fix and change things up.
I wonder how many times I’ve moved over the course of my lifetime? Life has a way of changing your plans and making new ones.
And sending you on a different journey than the one you expected.
The move will be gut-wrenching but a whole new canvas awaits you.

My favorite is the open shelves in your kitchen. It's so pretty with all the shiny canisters and dishes. I love the little black and white checks, but I am thinking that in a rental they may not let you paint. Do you know what the policy is where you are going? Just curious. Even if they don't I know you will still make it your own and pretty.

I guess the good thing is that you don't have to sell that house before you move. You've done so many nice projects since living there. I bet you'll be inspired in new ways once you move into your next home.
Your new place will be just as cozy. You will change things up and have it all spiffy in no time Wondering about the cabinets……are you leaving them with the modge podge on them. I would leave a page from the magazine so that they can see that these cabinets are famous. Good luck.

You will miss your decoupage cabinets..I wonder if you could do a similar project on a large piece of wood to display or perhaps on something that you could then frame and hang in the new place. You will have fun when you get there…it is just hard to say goodbye 🙁
I adore your cosy little house. But a house is just a house. It's a home-maker that brings the touches to make it a cosy home. You are that home-maker and you will use your magic to create another cosy little home. You can use your experience to make it at least as good! I absolutely LOVE your kitchen. That is my favourite of all your projects.
Brenda, you've really a talent for taking ordinary things and turning it into fabulous decor. I would never have thought of a lid as a towel holder! I love your style and your colorful, cozy little house and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your new home. Now, since I can't sleep, I'm off to snoop in some of your old posts and see what I can find for inspiration in my kitchen that needs sprucing up.
You amaze me with those lights. I could take lessons from you on those! I know it will be sad to leave the Little Blue House, but we are so excited for your move and what you will do w/the new place. I know it will be adorable in no time!
Brenda, changes are hard, especially after the time you made this place your home. I only wish for you that your new place will surround you with love and comfort as you make it your new home, and you feel comfortable soon.
