  1. I love how your apartment is decorated here. I prefer it over your new decorated place. This is so cozy and comfy.

  2. You did a great job. This is my first time to visit your blog. I love the natural light and think the bamboo shades would make it too dark. Maybe white bamboo shades?

I like my garbage can in the open! Yours looks fine.

Let me suggest something. Get some of those little silicone or felt pads and have someone help you. Put them on the bottom of the black shelves on the other black piece of furniture to protect the surface. Otherwise, the top will be marred. I would not just put them at the four corners but all around.

I love lamps, too. But, I never buy them new. They are all antiques bought for less than $5. Then, I pay to have them restored or fix them myself.

Oh, I like the fact you are not into matching furniture. The design looks natural, like it evolved over time. And,it looks comfortable.

  3. Wow ! Your new home is just beautiful ! You are a very talented and artistic decorator ! Best wishes and love in your new home – glad to hear that the pupsters have settled in. Puts your mind at ease a little when the 'kids' are happy !!

  4. WOW! I am so crazy about your new place! Just love the way you've used your quilts and those pops of red are wonderful! I agree with the advisers who told you both to put the black and red shelves up where they are now. Everything looks great and the pups look happy! – which in the end, is all that matters I guess! (I'm a pet lover too!)

  5. I like the red hutch on the diagonal in front of the patio door.
I have had patio doors in the past. I find them a waste of space, personally. So, the hutch right there… looks great!
You've done so much and gotten a lot accomplished.
I think it all looks wonderful.
You are my small dwelling hero! Getting so much into your space and neatly too!
Can't wait to see all the other rooms and how you've adapted to your space.

  6. Stop with the McMansions ( for heaven's sake). I'm happy for you and your perfect small cozy home, but I'm perfectly happy in my larger home. You are where you want to be and others are where they want to be. Being content is up to the person. There is nothing wrong with a larger house. There is just more room for all of the family to share special times with.

  7. Hi Brenda, doing a bit of catching up and I just love what you have done with your front rooms. WOW everything is placed perfectly. Love all the special touches you added and how the dining area goes right out to the patio. Like an extension of space and part of the house. Everything is so cozy and inviting. Love it. Really this belongs in a Cozy Little House magazine.
For the trash can. I have the same one and thought about covering in with fabric or decorative papers. I can see yours with red checked fabric making it apart of the décor!!

Have a great weekend and happy decorating!

p.s. we are in for severe storms here in Texas.

  8. Just doing a little catch up in my blog reading…..your new home is wonderful! Once again, you have done a marvelous job of decorating it and making it a sweet and cozy home. Love what you are doing so far with the garden.

  9. I think you're a wizard!–you've done SO much in such a short time! And with that handicap, too. Everything looks so pretty.
I love your four legged kids and think you're a great mom!

  10. Omgosh…the comments. Can you tell we love your space. Your first pictures it all looked so small. It doesn't look that way at all. I've heard when floor space is limited to go up. That is just what you did. Did I see coffee cups stenciled. Ok I won't ramble but this is my favorite of all three homes. It really is. There I'd peace here and no ties to negative people. Great job.

  11. Your new home looks darling. You have a great eye, and I am sure over the next few days and weeks, you will be tweaking things a bit as you live in the space you are creating. I love the book case on the buffet, too. Such a great idea! Maybe when the weather improves, you can set your trash can on your patio. It'll still be handy, but out of sight. I have a small receptacle under my sink, and a larger one outside, because I don't have a big kitchen either. Enjoy!

  12. Your new home is coming together very nicely. It is lovely. I love, love your patio. I especailly love the quilt hanging on the wall in the living room. Keep up the good work. I find myself looking for an email from you each day to see your progress. Rebecca

  13. Wow, Brenda, you have accomplished a lot in a short time. Your new home is so cozy and inviting. I love all the splashes of color. You really have an eye for displaying collections and creating vignettes. It's so fun to "watch" you and the pupsters settle in. Love the patio, by the way. You are going to enjoy spending time out there all summer long. xx ~ Nancy

  14. Brenda, you are one talented lady! The red and the quilts and everything just looks so cozy and happy. Blessings to you and the sweet puppies, Carolyn in Florida

  15. I just popped over to see how you were settling in and I'm shocked to see how quickly you've gotten your place decorated! It looks great, Brenda, and definitely is a cozy little house.

  16. The transformation is amazing! Such a bright and cheery look. I hope that you will be very happy there.
We need more people in the world like you that bring color to the rest of us. On another note–I drive by the blue house when I am cutting thru the neighborhood and it looks so sad and forlorn.

  17. Looks so cozy and darling and in fact always lived in with your decor. Everything looks just perfect Brenda!

    1. Thanks for coming by and checking it out. I think I was just meant to live in a cozy little house. Little being the operative word!

  18. It looks wonderful! I'm amazed ar what you were able to do in such a small area. It looks homey but not cluttered. And I LOVE that patio area. I'd probably live out there.

Wish you could come decorate my house. I just don't seem to have the decorating gene even though I'm artistic. Dang it!

    1. Well, we all have our attributes. And I'm no artist. I'm trying hard not to make it look cluttered. It's called editing, editing, editing!

  19. Hi Brenda,

Have not posted before, but always enjoy reading your blog!!! WOW, you new home looks wonderful!! LOve, Love what you have done. It looks so cozy. It is amazing!!

    Enjoy, Janie

  20. Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!, It looks like you have always lived here. I love..love..what you have done with the cupboard on your kitchen table, and the shelf unit on the black piece. Oh, and your patio, Wow… Well, what can I say..I LOVE it all. You create MAGIC…..Everything just says…..BRENDA!

    1. Those ideas came from comments. I have to give them credit for that. I didn't come up with those ideas myself.

  21. You've worked your magic, coffee table and all!!! And your patio space is an extra room. It will be fabulous when you've finished, just as all your other homes have been. Take time to breathe, though. You need to do that too!!

  22. I'm sure I've looked at these gorgeous photos at least a dozen times by now. Gazing at them makes me laugh-out-loud happy!! I'm in love with your new place. Sure rivals any home I've ever seen in a magazine!

  23. My, oh my! What a difference a few days make under your creative hands! It's so sweet, charming, cozy and welcoming. And I love that when you look out your patio door you can see your lovely sitting area — it's like an extension of your room. I think you'll love this place … so nice for you.

    1. I'm already loving it. I was so apprehensive that I wouldn't. So scary to move. But it's been a good thing, as Martha would say.

  24. Brenda, I love it!!! Everything looks so pretty! All the beautiful colors. The hutch is adorable with all your gorgeous dishes. Enjoy your new adorable home.

    Kathy

    1. It isn't big and it doesn't have all the bells and whistles I'd grown accustomed to years ago. But it is home.

  25. I'm glad you work fast because your next magazine feature is just around the corner! I am in awe of what you've done. It sounded like you had so many decorating hurdles the other day and now it just flows so seamlessly and looks wonderful! The bright colors, all of your happy bits and pieces, plants, cute dogs…I would be pinching myself! And I LOVE the patio area! It really is like an extended room. I want to come and visit you!!!

I am looking for an outdoor area rug, too, and I was just perusing a sale at Home Decorators.com. Beautiful…you may want to check out the website. Have you thought of a small area rug under your coffee table? I think that always grounds things. And no, I don't work for them! Ha!

    Hurray for you! 🙂

    XO,
    Jane

    1. Charlie has a tendency to pee on rugs inside. So that's why I don't use them. I can't seem to break him of it. I do know there are planes from Chicago to Oklahoma. Come on and see me!

  26. I am so amazed at all you have done! It is lovely! I wish you could come and put my house in order. Two dogs and two grandchildren (under 5 now) have really slowed me down. You really have done a wonderful job! Love looking at all the color you use, your plants, and the pups! Thanks so much!

    1. I would love to help get your home in order. Maybe I'll write an ebook on using color in any size home.

  27. There is a little sign I see often in craft shops that says "Bloom Where You're Planted". Looks like you are living those words!! Moving things UP has made a huge difference for you in your new cozy little house. It is a great tip for any small space. In the very first picture I noticed the two round tables and how they perfectly compliment each other, draw your eye, and together they really soften the angular lines of your new couch. The *bonus room* you get with your outside space being able to be seen right through the sliding glass doors will only enhance the entire picture! It is all truly wonderful!! Thanks so much for sharing with us! So glad that the dogs are happy, too.

    1. I felt good about the coffee table when Judy brought the other table back to me and I thought to use it there.

  28. Your bungalow is absolutely charming. I know you have worked so very hard. . .you can tell in that your place is so cozy and welcoming. The back porch is going to be lovely when the plants are planted. . .you will be "blurring the lines from inside to out" as P. Allen would say. I still covet your plates! 🙂

  29. Everything is looking so homey and comfy. I love your dining room ~ of course ~ it's red! Your patio area is really charming. You have already created such an inviting space and I know it will be even more enchanting in the weeks to come. I want to let you know that your whole demeanor has changed. I feel like a huge burden has been lifted from your shoulders and you are relaxed and happy. This move was really important for you. I am so happy to read through the lines and find your peace and happiness are alive and well.

    Big Texas Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

    1. Oh Susan, that makes me feel so good. I do feel like everything that was sitting on my shoulders has slipped off. That a weight has been lifted.

  30. This looks great! Christopher Lowell, one of those TV decorators a long time ago, used to say when you can build out build UP. This certainly worked for you here. You have to use the walls when the footprint is small. Can't wait to see the rest.

    1. I'm glad I discovered that too. Going up was exactly what was needed. I'm glad I listened to you guys.

  31. It is beautiful Brenda. I like all you have done. It is really coming together. Just take it easy. I hope that now you know how to use the boot correctly, your ankle is feeling better. Where is Charlie Ross?

    1. He was in one of the photos, but I didn't realize I didn't use it until I'd published it. He's not as social as his sister. Yes, it is feeling better and I'm able to do more.

  32. wow Brenda, your new home already looks good and it's comfy, colorful style is definitely a reflection of you. Well Done! Pat yourself on your back for me…

    1. Yesterday I toted in 10 big bags of potting soil. My back needs a massage right now! Because this morning I already used most of them.

  33. I am so inspired to make my home a cozy homey place to spend time. You are such a talented person. Thank you for sharing your home with us all!

    1. I am delighted that I get the opportunity to share my home. It isn't for everyone. But it's me.

    1. I've always wanted to go to Vermont in the fall. Never been there. I hear the leaves are gorgeous!

    1. I would love to help people learn to live in small spaces. I wouldn't want to decorate big houses.

  34. The amount of decorating that you have accomplished is impressive. It's certainly beginning to look like your home. Your new digs already have your warm, eclectic, and artistic stamp on it. Thank you for sharing your journey…I wish you much happiness and peace there.

    1. I guess one's journey just continues, from home to home. I hope I'm "home" for awhile. I want to sit back soon and enjoy it all.

  35. I am truly amazed at all that you've accomplished! And, I must say…it looks fantastic! It is so you! Your touches of red…your quilts…it's looking wonderful! Have you even slept? I'm glad you were able to take some of the suggestions that were made and use them…it all came together! So happy for you. You have a wonderful home for you and the pupsters! 😉

    1. I'm glad too that I had the sense to take the suggestions to heart. Made all the difference in the world!

  36. Oh my!! your neighbors will be so jealous!! what am I talking about…. I'm jealous!!! Everything is so pretty. I just love how you use so much red in your décor. I am slowly going that route, myself, and I love looking at every detail of your pics. Your place is beautiful!

    1. All that matters is that the person that lives there feels at home. It doesn't have to look like an elegant magazine or a McMansion. Little spaces can be beautiful too.

  37. You have such a talent, the magazine photographers will have to come and see how well you design. The place is so inviting. I love your patio – relax you deserve a couple of coffee breaks.

    1. It would be nice if my patio got to a place where I felt it was magazine worthy. I was kind of discomfited with it this morning. Right now I've got pots lining the fence just like I had furniture lining the walls. Waiting for a spark of creativity to inspire me.

  38. You have been busy….love the patchwork on the wall. It looks very very inviting!!! I just don't know what to look at first so I'll have to pop back in and enjoy another tour 🙂

    keep well

    Amanda x

    1. At first I thought, this is just a generic apartment like all the others. The walls are white. The appliances mismatched. But then I began to see it as a challenge.

  39. Brenda, you got so much done already! Your new home looks so beautiful! Can't wait to see the rest of your home. Enjoy your weekend!

  40. It looks lovely, Brenda! Looking forward to seeing the kitchen, bedroom & hopefully bathroom. Miss Abi (and Charlie) is such a cutie. 🙂

    1. I'm brewing on some ideas for the kitchen, but the bathroom is still a big question mark.

  41. Dear Brenda….how lovely it all looks!! You did it, and in no time at all! I have always admired how you arrange a room in such a well designed, cohesive way, ever since I first began reading your blog before you moved to your last house! And now you have done it again…..put everything together and made a wonderful cozy home!! I love how you used your pretty quilts, and they look gorgeous against the white walls, and your furniture looks lovely in here, and all your pictures and china! Love the patio, the plants and the chairs under the tree too!
    Happy weekend!

    1. Funny how I named my blog Cozy Little House back when I lived in Texas and lived in a not so little house. Maybe somehow I knew…

  42. Brenda, I love what you've done in your new home! It is lovely and oh so cozy. Can't wait to see the rest of your awesome new place. It looks just perfect for you. I am very happy for you and the pupsters!

    1. I'm happy for us too. I was afraid the dogs would miss their big back yard. But they seem to be adjusting just fine.

    1. My confidence is creeping back up with each accomplishment. And that's how it should be with everyone. It doesn't matter where you live. You can make it truly you.

  43. Brenda, I've been reading your blog for awhile but very seldom leave a comment. I hope you don't mind that I'm popping in to visit with you.

When I read your post about your decorating frustrations my immediate thought was "Brenda, relax and just do what you do best". And, that, Dear Lady is exactly what you've done. I'm applauding very loudly for you.

    Brenda, Welcome Home!

    1. Sometimes it takes me awhile to figure out how things should look. Last night it was the kitchen. It was just perplexing me. But now I'm getting some ideas forming in my head that are making me feel positive about it.

  44. It's SO you!! And you have a garden for your flowers and plants and pets and pals, when they visit!

COZY little house has moved to a new place, but your signature has filled the space, with bright and cheery touches that bring a smile to everyone's face!

    ENJOY IT, MY FRIEND!

    1. A cozy and warm home is of the utmost importance to my well being. And I'll work like a dog to get it there!

    1. Sometimes I actually surprise myself. Earlier in the week I was depressed looking at my surroundings. It just did not look like me. And then suddenly it did!

    1. I think you must mean I'm crazy like that! I feel that way anyway. I've gone non-stop as long as I could stay on my feet. Today was a gardening day.

  45. I kept looking for the "like" button on everyone's posts above! You are such a creative and TALENTED lady and an inspiration to each of us to never give up even when the circumstances seem gloomy. We never know what joys are coming in our tomorrows. What a difference a day makes!

    1. How very true! A day can make a lot of difference. I'm in a good place, both physically and literally.

  46. Thanks Kelly. I'm hoping I can get back to reading other blogs in the next few days. I miss you guys' places when I'm away from them for more than a few days!

  47. Brenda, I really love what you have done so far AND I'm glad you are keeping the coffee table! Your patio space is just like another room. You have done a lot in a short amount of time. You are an inspiration. Can't wait to see the rest.

  48. I think you did a fantastic job decorating your new place! It's so charming. I love the pops of red everywhere and the quilt on the wall and on the back of the sofa. So cheerful! I also really like the sitting area you've made on your patio. That looks like a nice place to relax. Glad to hear that your dogs are adjusting well.

  49. Wow, Brenda! What a BIG accomplishment!!!!! You have done a lot in a short time!!! This is a bright little nest and I love the color you have brought to the livingroom/dining area! Sweet! Love the black/grey shelves on top of the buffet. You really have a gift with arranging. I also love the privacy of the patio area! I think this is a great space for a single gal and I could see myself here, puttering away quite contentedly. So glad your fur babies are in the nest with you!

    1. Wherever I am, there will be color. I have always loved to arrange furniture. Mine or anyone elses!

  50. Thanks for the photos! It looks great. You have done so much in such a short time. You're the bomb dignity! 🙂

    1. I spent days sitting just staring at it all, trying to figure out how on earth I was going to make it look like more than one long room with furniture lining the walls. Which is what it was. But it quickly came together.

  51. Miss Brenda, I forgot to mention this to you the other day, but I love your patio space. I'm not one to get jealous, but when I saw your space, I turned pea green with envy. I have a covered space, about 8×6 or 7. I love that my space is covered, but what I wouldn't give to have a space that big!

Your place looks like a little doll house. I can't believe how quickly you put everything together. I bet you are worn out. Vertical blinds don't bother me, but if you don't like them, I have a suggestion. You have all that privacy with the fence and all, why don't you pull back the blinds and add a little topper to dress up the patio door? You can turn on the outdoor light at night, or better yet, buy one of those bulbs that cast a soft glow. Then when you're ready for bed, you can pull them closed, if you prefer. Or just keep them open.

Again, your place is as cute as button, Miss Brenda! I can't wait to see what you do with the rest of your place!!

    Take care,

    Carol

    1. I'm not going to take the vertical blinds down, because they do serve a purpose. I'll just try to hide them a bit more. At first I wasn't going to have this big patio space. But then the man who has lived here in another unit for twelve years decided he just couldn't get things together to move this fast, so I got the home he had wanted but at the last minute turned down. I got really lucky, because where I am is much quieter and closer to my car than where he is.

  52. OMG Brenda your rooms look beautiful. And you sure arranged everything so nicely for not knowing what to do with the furniture. I am so shocked how you made everything look so beautiful and comfy/homey. I love how you patio is right outside your dinning area. It looks so inviting. If looks and feels like you, your new home, Abi seem comfortable already! I am so happy for you Brenda, it just amazes me how much you got done in such a short time.

    1. It kind of amazes me too. Because for six or seven of the last nine days, I couldn't come up with anything. I love when you guys suggest things. It gets my creativity going.

  53. oh my goodness! It looks wonderful and so large. I love the round coffee table, it looks like it belongs there. I'm impressed with how quickly your new house became a home. The outdoor area is lovely and is going to be so nice for you. Abi is just adorable in those pictures. wahoooo!

    1. I hated the round coffee table for days. But then Judy and John brought the round table in the corner to me because it didn't sell. Thank goodness! Having a rounded piece there made the coffee table look more natural. And you need pieces that have curves and roundness.

    1. I can't afford to stumble around boxes! I'm already in a boot! I am a pretty organized person. It just is a natural trait of mine.

  54. Well, for not knowing where you were going to put anything I would say you have done an admirable job of it! It looks great. I LOVE your new place and I think that coffee table works just fine. You are just like me- move in and DO IT and you DID IT! xo Diana

    1. That's just me. And yes, a few days ago I had NO idea what I was going to do. You just have to jump in and try this and try that till you get it right.

  55. I can't believe all that you've accomplished…even pictures hanging on the walls! WOW! You need to pace yourself my friend! Take care of yourself! It really looks nice….looks like you! Hugs!

    1. I am pacing myself. I just have to keep making it look like me. It makes me happy when I look around and I just smile. Hanging things on the wall brought it all together.

  56. Does that dog thing work? Where did you get it?
I forgot to mention how nice the foot stool looks and it looks like Abi likes it too.

    1. Well, sometimes it works but when Judy comes over nothing works. They just go berserk. It's called the Sonic Egg, and I got it at Petsmart for $39.99. It's supposed to emit sonic waves 50 feet.

  57. I am amazed at how beautiful your place looks. You have done a wonderful job. I want to come over and just sit and look at everything. All the Brenda touches are so perfect. You should be very proud of your little place. How big is your cottage? Mine is 500 sq. feet with a tiny porch. Actually I have a yard but my daughters dogs run around there so I just let it go. I am anxious to get outside and clean the porch and put flowers and stuff out there. It is too cold now and much too rainy. Your place and you have given me many ideas and inspired me to fix and make my place as inviting as yours. This move seems like the right thing and I am glad you and your little pups are happy there.

    1. Your place is even smaller, so you had it even harder to get things right. I'm not going to do much of anything out front I don't think. I like the privacy of the back patio.

  58. Brenda, Bless your heart, you have made yourself a home. You don't let any grass grow under your feet. I love it. I like the little kitchen opening onto the patio. I knew you could do it, but you have amazed me with how fast you did it. Blessings to you dear girl, xoxo,Susie

    1. Just a few days ago it was furniture lining walls, and I couldn't come up with anything that looked right. But then I moved the potting bench outside and freed up a little room. Then I started decorating vertically and drawing the eye upward. Putting things on the walls. And suddenly it came together.

  59. Hi Brenda, I look at your photos and smile! You've done a truly magnificent job on decorating your new home. It's great seeing your walls decorated and your indoor plants…and the idea of putting the shelves up on other furniture is genius. I am passionate about small space living; for many reasons including simplicity, affordability, freedom; so I always love your posts. So much inspiration! I've followed you from afar; during Texas, the interstate move and now to your cozy new home and feel so happy (and proud) for you. Am really looking forward to seeing the kitchen and garden too!
    Happy Days 🙂

    1. I started out in Texas with about 2200 square feet. Then the little blue house had 1010 square feet. And now I'm in 725 square feet. It is so much simpler to have less space. As you know I've been enamored of small space living for some time, and now I'm living in fairly small digs. And am very happy with it.

  60. No way!! I can't believe how much you've accomplished in such a short time. I don't think I've ever seen such a dramatic transformation before. You really are an artist, Brenda. And this just goes to show that, just like your plants, you can grow anywhere! 🙂

    1. I think with the right frame of mind, you can grow and be content anywhere. A person doesn't have to have a big fancy house. A house is just walls. It's what you put into it that makes it truly home.

  61. Brenda, Everything looks beautiful! I love what you've done! I have the same Keurig AND the same black cat picture. The patio is wonderful; I cannot wait to see everything all planted. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your home. Enjoy!
    Lisa xo

    1. Oh, I'm so looking forward to getting things planted. The plants I brought are growing quickly with the rain we've suddenly had, and I've got to get them in bigger pots.

  62. Brenda, You are amazing! I love how you arranged these rooms. Color and texture and lots of great things to see. Thanks for posting all the photos.
    Sarah

    1. I was afraid you guys would get tired of seeing all the photos. But I wanted you to see the layout so you'd be better able to give suggestions. You all have fantastic suggestions! And as you can see, I've certainly taken your advice!

    1. I don't know if I can top those two rooms. But then a few days ago I didn't think I could make them look good either.

  63. Hi Brenda 🙂
Glad to hear you are settling in !
I've got a question about clematis.I've planted one last month and it looks nice.I've just found out that I need to move out.I got a thing for clematis and I would like to take it with me to a new place. But the plant looks so fragile! Is it safe to replant clematis?

    1. Since this is my first one, I don't know. Read the comments and I guarantee someone will tell you!

  64. Everything looks perfect and I just love how your patio is right out from the kitchen. It just looks like another room. That would be my favorite place in the summer. Before long it will be a blooming nicely with all your creativity.

    1. I know it will be a favorite spot and where I'll spend a lot of time working or relaxing.

  65. You certainly are a busy bee! It all looks great, and your quilts and indoor plants really help to make it cozy and inviting. I love your little photobomber! I love clematis too, and they grow really well in Tas. The smaller flowered montana varieties do go rather beserk though! In answer to the reader who wants to move her clematis, I think that would not be a problem as she only planted it a month ago. Give it a big drink first. You are going to have so much fun in your garden!

    Kathy

    1. I haven't ever bought a clematis because they're usually expensive. This one was not, so I treated myself to it. I hope I can keep it alive!

  66. I'm so excited to see photos of the place!!! The patio is larger than I imagined. You'll have plenty of room for your container gardening. Love that patio set. Looks like things have come together great. I think I have to agree with Andrea about the bamboo shades. I had those in an apartment right after college (yes, this is the second time bamboo shades have been popular) and back then they were pretty see through at night. So maybe the bamboo shades with curtains you can draw at night?

    1. I've had that patio set for years. Got it online at Home Depot. Sold a friend here in town two of the chairs. I kept the other two.

  67. Everything is placed beautifully and looks bright and pretty! The quilt on the wall behind your couch is so cheerful. At first I was wondering about your big round wood coffee table just as you were, but since everything is now in place, and you have that big pretty doily in the center of it, it brings a really homey touch into the room and blends in perfectly.

I got a kick out of your pup posing to show off your new place. It looks like they like it there.

That fern is gorgeous! Is it a Kimberlly Queen Fern? I have found them to be very hardy.

You are doing a fantastic job decorating your new cozy little home!

    1. I'm not sure what the fern's name is. I just saw it while at Lowes today and it was a good price.

  68. Whoa!!! You're SUPER WOMAN Brenda! I moved last October and I'm ashamed to say i STILL have unpacked boxes. Your new little nest looks adorable and so colorful, it has Brenda written all over it! Well done!

  69. OMG woman, you are beast! (that's what the college kids say lol!) I'm headed out the door so I'll have to come back tomorrow but wanted to say — don't rush out to buy those bamboo shades, they provide NO privacy. At night everyone can see right in. they give a lot of character but you would have to put up draperies too. I don't think the mini blinds look so bad for now, my gosh, your place looks AMAZING!!!

    1. I don't want them for privacy. I will leave the mini blinds up and just draw them up during the day. I just want the bamboo for the color and ambiance.

  70. I love how everything is coming together. You must be exhausted. I would say, just slap that cabinet door back on in the kitchen and use that for your pantry storage. You have so many pretty things on display already, you don't really need the open cabinets. I don't know if it has already been suggested, but flat sheets on a spring rod work well for a quick curtain. I use the wide hem end and just run another seam parallel to the fold for a rod pocket. Brenda in Texas

    1. I've thought of just putting the door back on. Not sure yet. I hate when doors are crooked. I'm kind of anal about that, and these are crooked. So I'll give it some thought before I go taking the rest of them off for sure.

  71. FANTASTIC! Just got to stop by and I love it. Amazing things you've done already. And I too love the way the patio can be seen from inside, a great extension to the place! Your colors and quits are lovely. Love the reds and black, they do liven the place up don't they. The dogs appear very happy! Your patio looks like you've lived there forever! It already rocks! You are amazing. Just rest the rest of the week! Can't wait to see what you do w/the kitchen and bedroom. And one of the first things I noticed after the gorgeous quilt on the wall was the new lamp you bought, love it!

    1. I can't rest for very long when there are things to be done or things out of place. But I rest often. I fell in love with that lamp in Target!

  72. It just looks wonderful!! I love how you have everything arranged-especially your seating area outside. I looks like a great place to relax with a cup of coffee!

    1. I plan on enjoying a cup of coffee or iced tea out there. Seems right now like neighbors aren't using their outdoor spaces except to maybe grill dinner. So it's pretty quiet.

  73. Brenda! You are amazing! You always make the best of what you have. I wish I could have been there to watch you do your magic. Thank you for sharing your home with us. I know I'm repeating what everyone else is saying, but I can't help it. I really like the black shelf on the buffet and everything else you've done. I am hoping to downsize soon and move into a smaller home and you've inspired me. I'm glad I got my 2 cents in early. By the time I get here there are 82 comments and I feel bad making you read another one. lol
Take care and keep up the great work.
Clara from Redeemed Junk and Stuff

    1. Oh, I love reading the comments! It feels good using what you have. There are always ways to make it look different. I'm not one to paint much, but I know paint can make a world of difference. I've had a gorgeous home that was completely renovated, but it didn't make me as happy as this one does. Even though I don't have all the pretty perks I did then. If you're unhappy living with someone, it doesn't matter how much money you throw at your environment. I'm very content living alone with the pupsters.

  74. Brenda, I knew it would look great when you put your touch on it. It looks so homey. I love how you can walk out to the patio from the dining area. Good luck in your new home.

  75. You amaze me at how quickly you get things organized and put together! Love it and I can tell you are putting your stamp on it already! Love your patio area and how it's fenced in. I'm so glad you shared your photos so we can envision where you are now!
    hugs, Linda

    1. I'm one of those types that can't stand chaos for very long. When I can't find things I get very aggravated. So it's imperative to me to get things in their place where I know where they are.

  76. My goodness, Brenda! You are a whirlwind! It looks marvelous! I'm still waiting to do my patio. We had a freeze warning last night, so I'm glad I have waited. Isn't it fun to set up a new place? Tons of work, but still fun! Take it easy on your ankle.
    Hugs,
    Deb P.

  77. BRENDA!!! Everything is just awesome! I knew you would bring it all together! Just love it all!! Do you have a front to your place? That has a yard? I could hardly wait to see this today. Just beautiful!!

    1. I have a small grass area in front. But there are some dead looking shrubs that I'm not happy with. And I don't really plan to do anything out there. The dogs throw fits when I go out front because they think I'm leaving. And the maintenance man is coming and going all the time in his big shed in front of my place. I'll be happy with the back.

    2. That is great. Im so happy for you Brenda!!! I even got around today and did some arranging to my place!!!! Thanks to you! Love you!

  78. holy cow, I am so embarassed now… I have been here 5 months and not a single room is finished:( youve been there a week and every room looks fabulous.. it really does~!! You have made it look like your furniture and decor pieces where specially purchased to fit perfectly in that space,,, wow wow and wow…
big pat on the back and lots of applause…

    xoxo

    1. I have actually been here nine days now. I really pulled things together the past few days. Until then I was kind of in a limbo state. I didn't know quite where to start. But when I'd get one little area finished, it would bring ideas for another. Kind of a domino affect.

  79. you may have white walls – but you have added so many splashes of color with quilts and photos, dishes ect that I think it looks perfect! so charming – you are a good decorator. And your outside space! so nice – I hope you will be enjoying your new home.

    1. I'm already enjoying it. I may have the maintenance man's shed for a view from my front window, but it's the back view I'll be loving.

  80. First, I agree with Impy. Next all I have to say is that I LOVE your new home !

You thought everything through before you left "that other house" and have placed your furniture, pictures, quilts, plants, dishes and everything else in just the right spot.
    .
This home is YOU Brenda.. I'm so very happy that your guardian angel was looking out for you and that you were able
to move here.. I'm pleased that Judy gave you some good advice about it also.
    .
The fact that Charlie and Abi are adjusting so well is wonderful. Bless their little hearts, they have their own private patio.

I would call your two black pieces a "step back" cupboard.. They look like they are meant to be "married" together.

I'm thrilled that you are going to keep your round oak coffee table. So glad it didn't sell.. It looks right at home..

You have to be tickled with what you've done so far.. I'm praying that this new home will be yours for many, many years to come and that you'll enjoy every minute in it..

I bought myself a clematis this year too. I think it's going to be a burgundy color.. You sure do have the right spot for a wonderful "secret" garden.. It's great that you can enjoy your patio from your dining area..

Everything is beautiful and I'll be happy to see your other rooms WHEN you want to show them.. I really think you should be featured in another magazine..

    Have a lovely evening..
    Hugs,
    Charlotte

    1. Charlie and Abi are happy when I am happy. They seem content, and are now beside me snoozing on the bed. I went over and over in my head how things could look before I moved. But truly, until I started mixing things up, mostly with the advice from all your comments, did it start coming together.

  81. I am so glad you kept the round red coffee table, looks perfect. Everything looks like it should be: YOU. cozy, inviting, warm…The shelves on top of the tables are awesome. I would kill to have that white table and red chairs. I like this home alot. It truly suits you. That outdoor space is just incredible. You havent said anything negative as to how the pupsters are adjusting, so I gather they are doing quite awesome. LOVE LOVE LOVE the potted plants on the red narrow table. I have a lot of frames that I painted all different hues of greens and blues (in my family room area) and then I collected (paid too much on ETSY) old travel pennants and pinned them inside the frames and boy do I love that entire wall. Pops of color. I cannot wait to see what you will do next.

  82. I love how it is all coming together! I am sure by the end of the day you FALL into your bed. LOL It looks awesome! Oh and Abi is so cute with the one ear flopped over. Glad you and the pups are settling in. 🙂

    1. Abi has always had that one ear flopped over. I am sleeping soundly these days! I'm so glad it's quiet here at night.

  83. Brenda, your new home looks lovely! So colorful and inviting, you can tell someone with a warm heart is living there. I love how you were able to arrange the the living room so your darling coffee table fits perfectly. Your dining area is charming, I can imagine you sitting at your table, looking out onto your patio. You certainly have made it all come together! You inspire me! Now, sit and rest for a bit and enjoy all of your hard work! p.s…I love how Abi looks like she photo-bombed the one picture! Glad they are loving their new home, too.

    1. Abi thinks she has to be in every photo. I didn't even realize she was there when I took that photo, because she's always finding a way to be a part of it. I'm looking forward to coffee on the patio and smelling the sweet perfume of blooming flowers. The dogs like it out there too.

  84. Everything looks so lovely, Brenda. It's all so colorful and so YOU. Your quilts are just perfect in their placements about the room. You have been working very hard—I hope you have your feet up now! ♥

    1. I ice my ankle and back every night. It's a ritual. I was so afraid the modern looking sofa/chaise was not going to work with my stuff, but I'm pleased with how it turned out.

  85. A job well done indeed, Brenda! Why it looks like you have lived there for years, not days. I love how the round table in the corner of the living room softens the straight line of the sofa. And your round coffee table looks perfect! I also love how you put the black bookshelf over the buffet and now it looks just like a hutch! I must say you are truly amazing and an inspiration to us all. It is a great lesson for us all to learn that no matter where we live, we can make it special, cozy and pretty. I think they should feature you in Apartment Living! Don't ever let anyone put you down again, you are an amazing, talented, smart and wonderful woman!

    1. I truly think you can make any space look great with some creativity. Repurpose things, shop the house. I also like the black book shelf on the buffet. I didn't think I would. But thank goodness I do, because that thing was heavy!

  86. My gracious, woman! Have you slept yet? I can;t believe how much you have accomplished. Been shopping, too! You are a powerhouse. I think happiness has something to do with it. So glad that you and the "pupstars" are settling in so well. Looking forward to seeing more.

  87. Brenda – Lovely, just lovely! What a beautiful beginning to your new home! I hope the pupsters like it just as much. You are a superwoman, and a hero to me.

    1. Well, that's so sweet of you! I think the pupsters are settling in nicely. I got a bird feeder today and then I can sit out and watch the birds come to the patio.

  88. You just made my day. Crazy how someone I've never met, is such an enormous part of my thoughts and daily habits. I LOVE< LOVE< LOVE< LOVE your new home. Better than your house you just left, and maybe, maybeeeee better than your beautiful home you moved from before the little blue house. Why? If anyone's confused,,,,,I love tiny spaces. Tiny, cozy, not getting lost in, spaces with dark cozy spots and lighter airy spots and some outdoor space with greenery. You have just moved into, and created my dream home! Brenda it's so fantastic that coffee table, the scalloped quilt on the couch ties it all together, the round edges. The quilt over the couch says warm, cozy, and home more than anything I could have imagined you putting there. The apothecary sign likes fantastic there, and I love the slightly off color black "tower" you've managed to get together. I love when I find something new to do with things I've had and loved for years. Your dining room, is incredible. That little bench as you transition from the living to dining to the right? Adorable. This is YOUR space Brenda. Nobody elses. I'm so, so excited for you. (if you can't tell from this probably manic seeming comment LOL). You really did make my day and there's never, ever too many photos. Keep em comin. You're changin lives there girly!

    1. I took the advice of some of you guys' comments and it made a big difference. It's hard to compete with the McMansions, but you know, I wouldn't have one if it was given to me. I hate wasted space. Like you, I love cozy little spaces. I don't want to clean anything bigger than this!

  89. Dear Brenda, I am really, really impressed by how much you have accomplished in such a short amount of time! Your 'home sweet home' looks incredibly awesome! Very smart use of space. I completely loved perusing all the lovely details in each and every photo. I'm just thrilled for you and your darling pupsters! Such a warm and cozy haven you have lovingly created…

    1. It feels good now. Just got to get the other rooms done and then I can concentrate on the patio.

  90. Brenda, your home looks fantastic!! It is cozy and warm, very inviting. You have been very busy, but look at the payoff. Wow! I love how your outdoor seating area is just off your dining area, and is highly visible from inside your new home. And to think this is the just the start. I am sure you will continue to amaze us with all that you do.

    1. Having an outdoor "room" is such a great extension of your home. It's like added square footage.

  91. You have gotten so much done in a couple of days!! It looks great. Your things add all the personality to the blank canvas the apartment was. It looks like you now. Tell Abi she is the hostess with the mostest. I think you three will be very happy here!! Thanks for showing us the photos.

  92. All of your hard work has paid off with very warm and cozy rooms. Wow, you've unpacked a lot of things and found just the right spot for them. I'm so impressed with the displays in your shelves. These rooms make it look like you've been there a long time!

    1. A lot of things are crammed in a corner of the bedroom. And the two walk in closets (thank goodness for those) are crammed with stuff. But I'll get it straightened out. It feels good just having the front rooms done.

    1. I won't stop until it's my cozy little house. I loved the blue house, but I now know I like it smaller, though that was only just over 1000 square feet. But with my ankle this feels just right. Just enough for me to handle. And the patio is a great space without feeling overwhelming.

  93. I love it, the round table in the corner is a really good idea. It's pretty, comfortable, and serene, doesn't get better than that. The red is really something.

    Susan

    1. I thought the round table in the corner made the round coffee table look not quite as odd. Now it feels balanced.

  94. Brenda – you've done an amazing job at getting your home in shape so quickly! I am looking forward to seeing the rest! Congrats!

Cheryl @ The Creative Me and My McG

    1. A few days ago, I just didn't like anything. Nothing looked like me. It was just generic. And then I started going upward with furniture and then balancing it out. And it all just came together. In small spaces, going upward makes things look larger. And then I started liking it!

  95. Your rooms look great! The red really brightens everything up, doesn't it? When we move, we'll have a patio similar to yours. I like the way you arranged your furniture and plants outside. You've worked very hard. I hope the rest of the day will be relaxing for you.

    1. Well, of course I've been out on the patio nailing suns on the fence and trellises and probably driving the neighbors crazy with my hammer!

  96. Hi Brenda!! Your home looks AMAZING!!! You have been working so hard!!! I hope you didn't hurt yourself getting the black bookcase on top of the other cabinet!!! That was me who suggested that!!! It looks just like I imagined! Perfect! I love the pic of Abi! She is so cute! Glad to know they are adjusting so well! The red shelf on the table looks really cute! Everything looks great! I am so happy for you! Good job dear Brenda!!! Mj

    1. Like I wrote above, I just didn't see your vision till I got it up there. You had a great idea there. You saw what I didn't and I love it.

  97. Everything looks so neat and cheerful. Love all the red and love the bookcase on top of the other! I think you've used your space wisely, Brenda. Welcome home!

    1. When I read the comment about putting the bookcase on top of the buffet, I thought: What??? I just didn't see it. But I got her up there and then I SAW it! Great idea she had!

  98. WOW this is amazing! It looks absolutely wonderful and I never noticed the blinds until you said so, then I had to look for them .Then you did it again. LOL stop talking about those blinds because until you make us look for them there is so much color and warmth and cohesiveness in the rooms now that it is great! 🙂

My son moved over the weekend and I just got back from the consignment store…found some cute little red & white checked valances for the boys room and white lace panels for their dining room ….I think these came to 13.00 / in thrift heaven here! 🙂

I am going back to look at your photos again..it all looks so nice! 🙂 And that patio ….summer heaven 🙂

    1. I've been out on the patio puttering around. I could hear the elderly couple next door cooking on their gas grill. I've peeped through a hole in the fence, and that's all they have, the gas grill. I can't imagine not having plants on the patio! Of course they're patio isn't as big as mine. But I'd still have pots or something. Guess they're not gardeners.

  99. I am totally amazed at how much you have accomplished already! Glad you kept your coffee table. I am so happy my suggestions about the little bookcases were of use to you! Love how you nested the 3 benches with the plants on top. Happy to see the pupsters are adjusting! Can't wait to see what you do next!

    1. I thought the coffee table fit in better once I put the round table in the corner by the couch. It was another thing that didn't sell. And it actually goes with the buffet.
