Yea! The Cardinal Has A Mate

I've been somewhat worried over this male cardinal. I've now lived here over a month, and never have I seen a female. But I was sitting here at my desk the other day, and there she was!

I haven't been able to get photos yet. She looks a bit on the young side. Hope he isn't robbing the cradle. I'm happy because I can hear him sing to her as she flits around the patio and he is nowhere in sight.

Abi Rose, get yourself out of Mama's green pot! This is the only one she seems to jump into. Don't know what the draw is.

I only get glimpses of him. But clearly he thinks of this patio as his domain. He came and he stayed. I'm glad he can think of this as home.

I'll be back later this afternoon with Tweak It! Have a wonderful day!

  1. I'm tickled that you now have a couple making your patio their home. You'd better buy stock in the sunflower see business..
Your pictures are beautiful.. Soooo colorful.
Miss Abi Rose better get out of her Momma's flower pot.
We're headed to Lowe's to check on a grill and get some mulch..
Enjoy your new little couple.. I hope there will be a nest and babies too.

  3. There are so many Cardinals around our place, especially during the winter months. There is one young couple that stay here, year round and I spotted them at the feeder, a few days ago. I've not seen them together before this but the young man was sweetly feeding his girl. Cardinals and Crows are my favorite birds, along with the little bluebirds and Hummingbirds that visit.

    Grace & Peace.

  4. Why wouldn't they want to make your patio their new home? I know I would if I were a bird! We don't have cardinals here, and I would love to see them. I do have hummingbirds that come play though. Can Abi drink water out of the bird bath? Is that what interests her?

    1. No, there's some herbs that are flavorful. Pineapple sage is what I think she's after. Charlie was after it too. I know it smells delightful, but I have no idea how it tastes.

    1. He's quite dapper. I was just standing at the patio door watching the rain listening to the thunder and saw him and actually saw two robins. I had hoards of them at the house. But haven't seen a robin here until today.

  8. How lucky you are that your two doggies don't scare the cardinals off! I hope that they frequent your patio and set up housekeeping nearby!

  13. It will be fun to watch the Cardinal Family as it grows. I thought that maybe Abi Rose was trying to do some up close bird watching. I never thought about dogs liking pineapple sage. I would imagine it smells good. I wish that when Fuzzy goes out he would search out something good smelling like pineapple sage to be interested in.

  16. I wonder why we don't have Cardinals here, I would so love to see a flash of red in my trees...but meanwhile I will live vicariously through your photos.
