New Painting Projects & First Canna Bloom

The sun has something to smile about. Yesterday I spotted my first canna bloom. Remember I transplanted these from the little blue house.

Last time you saw my red and white table, it was in the small dining area. I had managed to trip on the legs that go outward, instead of being straight, a number of times.

If you live in this area and would like the red and white table, give me a holler via email. It's free. I no longer have the chairs. They wouldn't fit in the apartment and earlier I had given them to the maintenance man.

I found a $10 table with drop leaves that I like.

I know. She's looking pretty sorry right now. But I will be painting her starting today or tomorrow. And she won't be red. Can you guess what color I've chosen?

I picked paint I already have. She'll be painted right there with a big paint canvas underneath her and I'll be sitting on my garden cart.

Yeah, guess I've got my work cut out for me. But this isn't all that's getting a "new do."

This is terrible lighting. But I don't have an overhead light in here. And the sun is not yet in the right place for photos.

Last time you saw this buffet, it was here...

I decided I wanted another gallery wall.

So the buffet went under the window. And the two brown wicker chairs will be facing the sofa/chaise. Can you guess what color that black buffet might be? I'm not telling.

But you haven't seen this color yet. I had it and haven't used it. And it's not a color I normally would paint things. Trying to add a few different hues to the place.

There have been a few minor additions to the kitchen, which I'll get around to showing you. Nothing major.

So, things, they are a-changin'!

  1. Your garden is doing so well. I should be out in my garden this morning but it is too hot; besides it Sunday.

    1. You're right. It's too hot. Generally about this time of day in the shade, my gauge says 100 degrees.

  2. That little drop leaf table was a score! And I love that buffet! Your place is so cute! I love it!

    1. Judy loves the sales. I don't go unless I just happen upon one. I don't have room for stuff and I know I'd find something else to cram in here.

  3. Your living room is looking good.

My canna lilies are just starting to open.

    1. Except it isn't going to look like that long. I have other plans. Only the couch stays put!

  5. What a beautiful canna blossom! So happy it is doing so well after the transplant. I feel bad that you tripped and it was painful. Sounds like the new table will be perfect! Are you painting it yellow or blue? Are you painting the buffet green or purple? I'm probably wrong! Looking forward to seeing your newly-painted furniture and gallery wall...

    1. I'm looking forward to doing the wall. Not looking forward to sanding and painting.

  6. My guesses are that the table is going to be yellow like the cart in the kitchen, and the buffet is going to be an aqua blue. No matter what colors, I'm sure the finished versions will be pretty and add some pizazz.

    1. I do sincerely hope you are right. I'm not that skilled at painting.

  7. Brenda, Is it green??? I notice you use more primary colors than any other. Can't wait to see. Your flowers are wonderful. xoxo,Susie

  8. Guessing game so....green.

That table was a great find at the perfect moment, too!

  9. I like the idea of the buffet under the window and the two chairs across from the sofa. Can't wait to see your colors! I just painted my living room walls in the two most beautiful colors. Behr "Soothing Celadon" and "Alluring Blue". And the paint already has primer in it so the pastel celadon green covered a dark taupe with one coat.

    1. Wish I could paint the walls here. I was pretty mad at that big bookshelf that I sat here and looked straight at every day. I hurt my back and neck something fierce getting that thing up there, and I'm still paying for it. So I just don't want to look at it anymore.

  10. Can't wait to see the new gallery wall. You will enjoy it so much when you are sitting on your sofa. I'm guessing black or yellow for the table, no clue about the buffet!

    1. I'll tell you this, I probably won't be painting furniture black. It shows way too much dust for my liking.

  11. I'm with JKaye, yellow for the table and aqua for buffet.

    1. I have been doing just that. And I can't start painting today anyway because I can't find any sand paper in this place. You would think that nothing could hide in a mere 725 square feet. Think again.

  13. Brenda, My first thought for the table was yellow, and green for the buffet. I have done several pieces in sage green and have loved them all. I like all the changes. My husband has said I could do anything to the living room but move his chair. So it sits like the sun and everything else revolves around it like the planets. Fun.

    1. Like I said, you guys are really good guessers! That's funny, about everything revolving around the sun/chair. I think men like to have everything revolve around them anyway!

  14. The new table will be wonderful once you paint it. I'm anxious to see the colors you choose. I am trying to work out a color scheme for my place and haven't really hit on one that makes me happy yet. I love my neutrals and then add color in my accessories but still need some punches of colors somewhere! You are always an inspiration.

    1. Linda, how long have you been there, a year now? I've got to set a fire under you so you get your colors picked. Course, you've had to take long trips to Texas, and thank goodness that is behind you. If you need help, send me some photos and I will give you my two cents. For what it is worth.

  15. That little table will be much happier once you paint her! She has some sweet legs, too. Much better for you. Can't wait to see your pics this week, whatever colors you choose they will be amazing!

    1. I just about made it through without falling with that darned red and white table. But no, minutes before it got here I had to fall. With legs sticking out like that in a smallish space, it was just a matter of time. No permanent damage though. Just my pride.

  16. so can relate to tripping on something over and over. We should know better after the first or second time right? Looking forward to seeing a bright color on that table.

  17. Well, I was going to say 'yellow'...but now after seeing that you're painting the buffet too, I'm going to say a shade of green or blue?
I can't wait to see it and the addition to your kitchen.
Aw! hang it...!!! I'm going with YELLOW!
It just seems so sunny and bright and perfect for you...
I'm sure someone will take your lovely red and white table.

  18. I'm thinking yellow, like your canna? Whatever the color, I'm sure it will be cheerful! Hope your are ok after your fall. Oh - I have a canna for the first time. What do you do with the faded blooms? Just let them wither, or cut back?

  19. The new drop leaf table is so cute. Can't wait to see what colors you're using on these projects!

  20. That new table is darling! I love tables like that. I have to stay away from yard sales because I'd bring home every stray small table and every stray chair in the county! I just can't resist them for some reason. Can't wait to see your color choices, but reading the comments and replies I'm expecting yellow table and green buffet. We shall see.... Take care of that ankle and no more falls!!

  21. I am not even going to try and guess what you are up to with paint colors but I have no doubt that I will like it..Take care of the ankle Brenda!
