Rain Reflections
I often feel reflective when it rains. Childhood memories come to mind when the rain is hammering down on the roof.
I was happiest while it was raining. I’m not sure why, but those are some of the happier times that I recall.
I think of these times as “rain reflections.“
Watching It Rain:
I stood at the patio door this morning and watched the rain drizzle down and then finally stop.
It has been raining for more than 24 hours. Now the air smells so fresh and clean.
There are prisms of light, tiny hovering raindrops, sparkling from the leaves and petals of the flowers.
The cobalt blue birdbath looks so nice in the garden space. I moved it with me from Tyler, Texas. It is a bright light in the middle of the garden. I guess you could say it’s a focal point.
This is the kind of day when you wake up and the world seems chock full of possibility.
The sky above released the rain, and it has washed the dust off everything. Now we can see the beauty underneath. It was there all along.
I See The World Differently Now:
You know, I truly did not see the world this way before I started blogging years ago. I didn’t see it this clearly.
And I don’t know why really.
I didn’t stop to see the rain dripping off a flower. Or pause to see how the light shimmered on a rose petal. But now I see it all. I pause to see all of nature’s beauty.
Because it’s everywhere! If only you stop and look.
Life isn’t just about big things like new cars and houses and stainless steel appliances.
I hate stainless steel appliances. Probably because everyone rushed out and bought them so they could be like everyone else.
Why would someone wish to be like everyone else, I’ve always wondered. And besides, I’ve been in a morgue and stainless steel is everywhere you look. So when I see someone’s stainless steel refrigerator, I remember that morgue.
It’s About The Little Things:
Life is made up of the small things that inhabit your life every single day. You just have to open your eyes a little wider to see them.
That is when you learn what happiness really is. It is the trees and the the flowers and the squirrels scampering up a branch. Leaves blowing in the breeze. The sky after a rainstorm.
What if you happened upon a morning glory, but failed to acknowledge the exquisite light behind it?
That would be a shame not to witness the many miracles all around you.
What if you missed seeing the love in the eyes of your pets when they gaze at you?
They can’t put that love it into words, but you can look in their eyes and see their loyalty and devotion.
There is beauty all around you. If you just pause, stand still, and see it. It is always there for you to enjoy if you just take the time to enjoy it.
It's so worth taking the time to appreciate all the small things.
Such truth in your words. We really must slow down and pay attention to the gifts that God gives us each day. He wants us to take notice and to be thankful and appreciative of the simplicity of beauty that are from him.
You are so right. We need to pay attention to the little details, and small pleasures. I live in the woods. I see the beauty all around me. I have been here 20 years and always get excited when a deer walks through.
You always say it so well. I think when I really started to use my camera to search out things we normally didn't pay much attention to, I saw the world in different light.
These pictures are awesome!

Beautiful post.
Ah, yes…beautifully said!
Love it.
So true……We need to take time to smell the flowers.
What a perfect post……thank you I needed it!
Beautiful Brenda. What a joy it is to feel the warmth of the morning sun dancing through the wind swept trees as I sit by the pond, the fresh smell of rain, the amazing songs the birds sing…these bring a calm to our hearts and a peace to our soul; God reminding us that He is close, always with us.
Blessings,
Cindy
Beautifully expressed…and my day will much better because you reminded me of all the blessings of the day…thank you!
Brenda, you are so right. There is beauty everywhere. xo Laura
You are so right — a raindrop on a petal is worth stopping to see. A favorite memory from childhood is the first drops of rain on the dirt and gravel road that rain by our house. I was fascinated that the raindrops disappeared, but left behind little round footprints in the dirt. There was a tangy smell in the air. Then, more rain would fall and I would run inside and watch the rain run down the windowpanes. I was amazed that water fell right out of the sky! Being older and having access to weather reports 24 hours a day doesn't make the rain any less amazing. Thanks for stirring up pleasant memories.
AMEN! 🙂
Yes…there is beauty everywhere if we just take the time to stand still, and look for it. Great Post!!

Great post, Brenda, and I totally agree that blogging truly makes you see more details in the world!
Your writing is so lovely…I can just feel your rainy, fresh day. It makes me feel cozy all the way in Minnesota.
Your right rain is just as beautiful as the sun, just in different ways! So many people do not have peace in their hearts, I am working on mine. I love the rain, and we had our deck covered this summer and use barn metal roofing. Everyone told us it would be too loud, but I love it, there is such a sense of security and comfort hearing the rain drop hit the metal tin roof. It makes me smile!
Love your title today!! So true, every single word, and imagine the reality, when your PHOTOS are this beautiful!

Brenda, it seems in order to be able to see the beauty around us each and every day you have to have some peace in your heart. I am so glad you are able to see so much beauty.
I also love watching and listening to the little things of beauty that happen everyday in nature Brenda..I find now that the days when I take the time to stop and observe these little miracles around me are the the days when I feel most content since I have gotten older..All the big things in life..marriage, childbirth, divorce, are all done and behind me so I look to the little things to make me smile and make me feel in touch with the world..sad thing is they were there all along..I just didn't take the time to stop and see them..
Well said Brenda! There is beauty all around us and taking the time to look and listen is so important. I am appreciative of my life every day!
hugs,
Linda
You are so right, Brenda, and you taught me these things over the course of three years while reading Cozy Little House. Thank you so much!

Brenda, no truer words have been spoken. It is not the big things but all the little things that make us truly happy.
One of my favorite quotes is: Life Is Not Measured By the Number of Breaths We Take, But By the Moments That Take Our Breath Away (unknown)
Yes, those are beautiful photos but not nearly as beautiful as your heart felt message. Thanks for sharing it and I will remind myself of our words. Often I look but I do not SEE.. more seeing would be to my physical. mental and emtional benefit. thank you Brends.
ps wrote you an email– I was having a scary manic moment.. better now so ya dont have to write or call.
