It's Still Hot, But Let's Talk Fall

(Source)
Let's pretend the air is growing a tad cooler. And not over 100 degrees in the shade before noon. And we're all digging in every closet and nook and cranny for fall decor, getting ready to deck out our homes for fall.

(I know I do a lot of pretending. Humor me.)

Here's an easy-peasy three-tiered homemade basket filled to the brim with fall pretties. Pine cones, pine needles, candles. You name it.

This looks about my speed. Unless it's harder than it looks. Get a monogram letter, and glue leaves on it. I think I can do that.
(Source)

Yes, this is a real cake. If anyone wants to try to duplicate this beautiful concoction (that I'd have a heck of a time cutting into because it's just too pretty for words), she has the tutorial for you.

Have at it. I couldn't begin to cook and decorate something so positively sublime.

Leave it to this girl to create a gorgeous farmhouse look. Love her house.

Oh, I love this vintage-y scene. Velvet pumpkins never go out of style.
(Source)

Ah, the natural look. It fits into any style decor. This would be a beautiful tabletop display.

These are unique and adorable. If you have a whole lot of patience. Which I don't happen to have.

And when you're finished gluing and pretty-ifying your house, sit down to some slow cooker chili. I ordered a crock pot from Walmart.com (red of course) so I can enjoy hearty meals come fall.

You can't begin to believe what I've been doing this afternoon. I've been hanging quilts on the walls. Yes, I know that sounds crazy when it's this hot. I had to have a fan on high blowing on me the whole time.

My thumbs are numb from pushing thumb tacks. But it kind of gets me out of the hot and humid summer doldrums and into a cabin-cottage-farmhouse sort of decorating mood.

Now I've got stuff all over the place and I'm too tired to deal with it.

  4. I have been ready since July. I have velvet pumpkins. My aunt made me five of them and I adore them. I first have to get my big gold plastic tub that is labled FALL out of the shed in my backyard. I decorate mid September. I am in the process of sewing a "fall" fireplace mantle scarf. My little house is only 755 square feet, yet I have this fabulous fireplace and I decorate it for most holidays I leave my fall items up until Thanksgiving Day, then that night after I get home from Chico, visitng my parents, I decorate for Christmas. It is my NEW tradition.

  5. Now, Brenda, you're talking my language.. As I've told you, I've been putting some of my fall things out while listening to Christmas music on my stereo.. My "kids" have listened to Christmas music starting in July when I was doing craft shows..
I LOVE fall. It's my very favorite time of the year.. I have witches, scarecrows, pumpkins, you name it that I made years ago.. They'll all come out of hiding slowly, a few at a time.
I will be so glad when the temperatures outside make it feel like fall.
I love the three tiered arrangement that you posted.

  8. They all look yummy! But the latest is the yummiest. Honey, it was 98 today in Middle Georgia and even hotter in the classroom of 8th graders.

  10. I think photos of autumn decorating speak to me the most. Maybe it's because things aren't so over the top as they are at Christmas. Or maybe because I love to wear autumn colors. Either way, it's fun to browse through all the fabulous fall Pinterest boards and my stash of old fall magazines. Our house was so cold the other morning I almost turned the heat on, but I refused since it's only August!

  11. So many pretty fallish things to enjoy. I have always loved fall best of all, but this year it feels like we had so little summer and fall is rushing in upon us. I would like the red CrockPot too. I have a deep red KitchenAid mixer which I love. Such a rich color!

  12. Hi Brenda,
You gave me some great ideals for fall. I think I will get the stuff this weekend to do the monogram letter covered in leaves for my daughter's apartment. It was in the low 90s here today but suppose to cool off later this weekend. Can't wait to see the quilts hanging on the wall. Have a great weekend.
    Hugs,
    Lynn

  13. I think my favorite is the one with the acorns. We used to collect bazillions of them when I was a little kid and my mom would use them in decor. She'd paint the little tops with some metallic gold; did the same with pine cones around Christmas time.

    1. In Texas I had tall pine trees that dropped many pine cones, and lots of oak trees with those perfectly shaped little acorns. I do miss that.

  15. It's very hot here. too, but as they are going to have to drag me kicking and screaming into fall, I am loving it. I do really like those velvet pumpkins and have thought about making some. As you and Judy say, tomorrow is another day :)

  17. Fall! My favorite time of year! I love it so much that I find myself wishing away summer! Now that's the season I could do without...heat and I just don't jive! I will begin my fall decorating this weekend. I would have already had everything out but we remodeled the living room and the last thing I needed was more stuff sitting all over the house! Happy...no, not yet. Oh what the heck! HAPPY FALL, Y'ALL!!!

    Grace & Peace.

  18. That cake truly is amazing, and believe it or not it's not nearly as difficult as it looks, but I agree...who would want to eat that? Way too pretty.

It's been 'Fall' here for weeks. Right now it's barely 60 and I think we've put our AC on twice this summer. I'm not complaining. I don't like humidity and Autumn is my favorite season so this just prolongs it I guess.

  19. Yes, let's talk Fall! I am so ready. Last night, for just a few moments, I could feel it in the air. My family is nuts about college football and my husband was watching while I cooked supper. It made me so happy! I'm bringing out the pumpkins next week once Labor Day is over. I just can't stand it another minute. I love my decorations! I'm seriously thinking about putting up my Christmas tree in a couple of weeks and decorating it with pumpkins and leaves and stuff. I saw one at a hotel last Fall and I fell in love with it. Then on Thanksgiving night, I can just remove the Fall decorations and put my Christmas ornaments on it. It's a good idea in theory, so we'll see how it works out. LOL

  20. It is still very hot here in Florida, too. Having lived on Long Island most of my life I do miss it this time of year. October is my favorite month and the red/golden trees of Fall are so beautiful there. I would always take a ride out east to the Hamptons and stop at all the farm stands for apples and homemade pies. The weather here in Fla. is summer but my head is already in Autumn so I think I will do what you have done and start decorating anyway.

  21. Cooler weather here in Michigan. I keep having to restrain myself from getting out all of my fall decor. I'm a summer person but I do love decorating for fall with all it's gorgeous colors. Should I or shouldn't I ? Do you think it's too early?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well I am more than ready for Fall weather, we are still hanging around just over 100, Arizona, it just seems to drag on and on this time of year. But hey, I love the velvet pumpkins and the leaf covered monogram, I am ready to get started with something to head into the Fall season no matter the weather!

  27. This post really puts me in the mood! Loved all the pictures. The cake is so pretty. Like the three-tiered baskets. I love anything Fall. I've always thought that since I was a Fall baby, maybe that's why it's my favorite season and always favorite colors all year around. You mentioned the East Texas pines in one of your replies. Brenda, I grew up in Corpus Christi and we had grain and cotton fields and lots of Mesquite trees which are glorified bushes. They are pretty in their own twisting limb kind of way but not tall or too shady. Every time we would go to East or West Texas and then drive back to Corpus, we would wonder why we lived there where it's so flat and treeless. I love the pines of East Texas and the hills of West Texas. When my husband got the chance to transfer up here, we took it. We have lived north of Beaumont for 15 years now and I still stoop to pick up pretty oak leaves, pinecones or acorns. We have three pine trees in our backyard. We watched them grow from just little spouts and last year was the first year we found some pinecones on the ground and I was excited to have my very own! I just love the nature around us and will never stop appreciating it. It's also nice to have "somewhat" of a season change. We do get to see the trees changing and we really the colors. I bet your quilts look so pretty, especially tonight with the table lamps on. I think coziness looks the best with the glow of lamps. After reading your post, I'm ready for some stew!
