The Washer Is Working & What I Had To Do

Yes, I normally post long before noon. But today I spent the morning at the dentist. Got one crown put in. I go back Friday to be fitted for another.

I want you all to know that the washer is working. It never was the fault of the washer, by the way. But of hooking it up at this particular place. Where the water pressure is too high for something like this.

I finally begged the maintenance man to do it, and I paid him his asking price, after hours. And it wasn't a bad price at all. Or what I had to pay all the others.

He is Russian, or rather he has been here for 15 years. I learned a lot about him yesterday evening. (Because I ask a lot of questions.)

He and his wife came here 15 years ago and apparently acquired refugee status. We Americans don't know what it's like in countries where they can tell you what religion you must be, or that you must be religious at all. And if you don't follow their rules, you are imprisoned. Sounds archaic, doesn't it?

That apparently was the basis upon which the United States allowed them to come here. He still has siblings there. I don't know if he ever gets to see them or not. He has six children and 12 grandchildren, of which he seemed quite proud.

We didn't hit it off right away when I moved here. He was new here as well and seemed stand-offish. But now I think I understand some of that.

Like I always say, don't judge until you've walked in someone's shoes. And I admit that I was a bit judgmental. I need to take my own advice sometimes.

All I know is that he asked for a piece of paper and a pen, drew out some things, left, and came back with the proper under-the-sink water pressure reducer part. I was in the living room, so not sure what all took place. Just that things are working.

I still don't know if there was any permanent damage done to the washer. I'm watching it closely. I did one load of laundry last night. Seemed okay.

But I'm ever so thankful I can (crossing my fingers) take that off my worry list and move on.

I thank you all for trying so hard to help me. It was very frustrating. And it doesn't help when plumbers come in and say the guy before them didn't do something properly.

Now I'm stuck with parts that came from various places that I have no use for. But they're not worth the small price I'd get to track plumber #4 down.

So all is well in my little corner of the world. Didn't want you to think I'd fallen off the face of the earth. Or melted in this August heat.

  2. May God bless the Russian maintenance man ! I'm so glad and relieved that your washer is working now.. Do you think maybe "Mr. Fix-it" could use the parts somewhere else ?
I figured you were being held up in some way, shape or form because we didn't hear from you until now.. You need to give us your schedule so we won't worry and wonder.. Ha ha. Just a little jokey joke !
You deserve a crown and not the kind that goes in your mouth on your teeth. Wouldn't you like to be Queen for a day ? Like the old show that used to be on TV.
Thank goodness you can strike one problem off of your list. Now you need to find out why your eggs are freezing.. I think they need to give you a new/newer refrigerator.. OR the one you have needs to have the thermostat adjusted.. Maybe "Mr. Fix-it" would know how to do that ?
Best wishes for less stress in your life and more Brownies in the Breville !

  3. Figured you were busy but glad to see your post! Ugh to the dentist, I have to go soon. So happy that the washer is working better now. Water pressure is a funny thing and bad plumbers are numerous. It's interesting what we can learn when we spend a few minutes asking questions of someone and really see them in a new way. Glad that happened for you, maybe you can feel more comfortable asking him to help you in the future.
    hugs,
    Linda

  11. It's such an annoyance when an appliance isn't working properly! So glad you got it fixed and learned a little about someone else's life journey in the bargain. We just do not realize that the freedoms we enjoy in this country are only dreamed about by others. We need to take notice and protect them before they're gone and we wonder how it happened.

  12. So nice to hear you've become friends with this guy and he sounds like a really nice guy. You are one smart cookie, letting him talk about himself! I'd be baking those brownies for him. Make sure to tell them they are for his wife also, don't want you to be accused of something! LOL

  16. I am so happy for you. It's the little things that become BIG......the straw that breaks the camel's back. And then.....someone comes along that actually knows something and you just want to hug them. He gave you a gift, actually....with his knowledge. Thank God he moved to America....so he could fix your plumbing!! I know what a relief it must be to you. Sleep well.

  18. Glad it is working. Perhaps you can take those extra plumbing parts and fit them together into some sort of garden ornament. Then maybe the cardinal would sit on it, and it would make the whole plumbing mess seem a bit better!

  19. I am so happy that you finally have some peace with the laundry. I am all thumbs with plumbing and can totally relate. How lovely that this brought you a new understanding of a new friend. How brave he has been and is. Yay for clean laundry!
