PT: Week Four

I began the fourth week of physical therapy today. They are having me do more and more. But it is gradual.

Saturday I tried to take a pic of the bathroom. I didn't have the boot on, but I had the support hose on that foot. I was backing up to get a shot in that tiny bathroom, and fell backward into the tub. Taking the shower curtain with me.

I wasn't really hurt. Of course my instinct is to protect that camera. And it had a brand new wide angle lens on it.

My elbow is still sore. But I credit my yoga stretching for no soreness any place else.

My ankle was sore for a bit, but it went away with some Tylenol.

Things happen. You just do the best you can.

Squirrels or some rodents are partying in the wall behind my bed headboard. They don't start partying until about ten p.m. Hope they move on soon. I've never been much for parties.

  4. Hi, this is my second try at leaving a comment so sorry if some of this is a repeat. I'm a very recent follower and this is the first opportunity I've had to take a wander through your blog. It's very enjoyable for me! I am so in love with your patio. I've been a balcony gardener for many, many years up until six years ago. Things happen as they are wont to do in all our lives and nothing has been quite the same ever since. I do have my fingers crossed for this spring to start again. Did I read correctly and you went to Oklahoma from Texas? It's my understanding that Oklahoma can get pretty cold in the winter. Where do you winter all your plants? I'm in SW Ontario in Canada and we're back to the old time winter weather: lots of snow and very cold temperatures. I also wanted to mention about a pond with no electricity. I don't know if it's the sound of the water you want or just a pond. If you go to a website called "Canadian Gardening" (magazine here in Canada - obviously) and search for pond in a pot. Is there no way for you to use a heavy duty extension cord and run it out your patio doors? That would certainly solve the problem though you've probably already thought of that. As for a cover for your outside table and chairs: Market umbrellas come in all sizes. Some have to go in the ground but others have a base to stick the umbrella in. I'm thinking of going that route as my balcony faces due south and gets a "tad" warm in the summer. I wore a boot for almost 6 months earlier this year and I was so glad I had it rather than a regular cast. Broke a bone just down from my baby toe on my left foot. Kept being told because of my age (59 at the time) that I'll be healing much slower. Smarty pants young doctor! :-) Careful around the house. Have a great Christmas and all the best in the new year.

  6. Oh- I am SOOO visual. I can almost picture the expression on your face....fright...horror....relief when you realized you weren't badly injured. I'd say your pride took the biggest beating there. Glad your PT seems to be going okay and that your new flexible self kept you from being badly injured. God bless Judy to the rescue! She's a great friend~ xo Diana

  8. I am so happy that you weren't hurt badly. That sounds really scary. BE CAREFUL!!! My daughter had squirrels in her walls when she lived in New York. They captured it, Drove it across the Verazano bridge and it found its way back. They finally had to hire an exterminator because it was chewing through the walls. Hope yours decides to party elsewhere. xo Laura

  9. Maybe you should get a great big pillow for your tub, or a big inner tube, then you would just bounce. I am so glad you weren't seriously hurt.
Aren't vermin partying in the walls the worst thing ever. In one house we lived it sounded like they were rolling logs under the floor. Hope there is someway to get rid of them.

    1. Or pile quilts and blankets in there for cushion., when you live alone, you try things and things happen. thankfully nothing serious happened. Judy- yes I agree with you about craft shows- all premade things like jewelry- very little crafts or creative things at all. I use to do craft shows myself and still make things and it is so disappointing for sure. you always find the best things there in Tulsa. the Christmas hankies are hard to find.

  11. Love Judy's comment to "Grace" couldn't have said it any better. Please be careful, our bodies can only handle so much! I assume you've told mgmt about your friends! They won't go away on their own, nasty little critters.

  14. oh, Brenda! i let our plumber in the front door last week, and then ran up the five carpeted stairs, falling, catching myself with my good/right (four months' surgery) hand -- wow, it really does work!!! this "new hand," but i fell onto my left (barely post surgery) hand, which is still in a hard plastic brace and wrap, bruising my boob! i had to laugh! as you are too, and i'm still wishing you all the wellness in the world, this holiday season!

  15. What you will do to get a perfect photo! I am also going to PTherapy after my surgery and I have to admit it is helping. So hang in there (I just think it is so expensive but I met my deductible, so why not). Your blog just makes me smile when it pops up. I could have a bad day and then there is the photos of beauty that you include. Give my best to Judy and thank her from all of us for helping you out. I am going to my friends to bring her a meal and take her to get a hat for she is having chemo. I wasn't looking forward to winter but I am managing it but it is only December - January usually gets me down. Have a great day.

  17. There is a gadget that you can get to make rodents leave.

  18. Large cities like the one where you live have rodent control specialist. Start with your county extension agent for information and names.

    1. Brenda, I hope you have called your apt. manager about the little friends in the wall. That is the good part of renting. THEY need to take care of it,,,, and as soon as possible. YOU shouldn't have to do a thing about it ~ except tell them about it and then say "thank you" when they are done and gone!!!

  19. Oh I am so glad that you weren't hurt!! and then you have rodents as well!! Yikes,,one can only chuckle and hope, that like you said, the party moves on !! 21. Your rodent issue, I thought I had bats in that attic and it was mice - I could hear something in the evenings only or at 4am. The rodent specialist told me that I had lots of insulation in the attic and they loved that. It cost $80 dollars but no more noise; it is always something.

  22. I'm so glad you didn't injure yourself any further Brenda..I'm not much of a party person either..especially if I'm not the one having fun..lol..

  23. You are so lucky..bathroom falls are the worst, there's no where to go without hurting yourself. I had a big fall last week. I had the horrible mess of the Christmas bins all over last week and a big plastic lid was right in the middle of the kitchen floor, I stepped on it and slipped like I was on skis! I was falling backwards so I leaned forward and hit the floor on my knees and the palms of my hands (the operated hands). I literally did not move for a good five minutes. Then I laid on my bed with a cold pack pressed between the hands for an hour.

For the life of me, for those five minutes all I could hear was my father's voice warning me about that lid being a hazard!

Hope you're well, Judy is an angel coming through again for you! :)

  24. Oh Brenda, So glad you weren't badly hurt. I'm always climbing on things to make repairs or change light bulbs or whatever and I move so slow these days trying to make sure I don't have a mishap. You are on my mind a lot these days. Sending good thoughts your way.
