Decor Choices You'll See Here In 2015

Remember a few weeks ago when I got so excited about the Boho style of decorating? Well, I realized it wasn't exactly the Boho style per se that I got so enthused about.

It was the freedom to mix all kinds of colors and patterns together. To add layers and even more whimsy.

You are going to see my current furniture come alive in a bevy of new colors. Pinks, oranges, lime greens, periwinkles...

Finally, in all my years of decorating my home, I feel like someone has come to my door, and led me to a paint store full of paint samples spanning the walls. And told me to just pick whatever I like.

I have always been in love with color, but always felt I must try to "match" the colors in some way, and not go too far off the scale.

I'm throwing the scale out and throwing caution to the wind. I am not going to be looking for just reds and blues and greens and golds.

I am going for it! I am going to go slap-happy with color.

You will see pinks mixed with my beloved reds. Why not? There really are no rules. Whimsy. You will see a lot of whimsy and patterns.

So get ready, because you are going to see "Boho" my way. I have fallen in love with the Moroccan style and patterns. I love the casual and unpretentious look of lots of mixed colors and patterns and ethnic blends.

I am going on a journey with my use of color. I am going to pick colors like I'm choosing flavors of sherbet.

It will be a completely carefree look. No rules to hem me in. I will choose colors that merely make me smile

It is a brand new year, and I'm bursting at the seams for new challenges. For life is just too short not to take chances. Don't you agree?

The rainbow is within reach. And I am going to choose colors with abandon.

I may live in a small apartment, but it will be lit up with color. In all sorts of new hues.

Get ready for the ride! It may be a rather wild one. Say yes to color in 2015 if you want to join me!

Do you have decorating goals for the new year?

  2. You go, girl! I can't wait to see what you do! I always love your unbridled enthusiasm for your passions--far too many people are jaded and cavalier for my liking.

I have to laugh because I am finding myself at the totally opposite end of the spectrum. I find myself craving whites, and creams, and muted neutrals.
I can always drop by here when I need a fix of color! Ha!

My wonderful husband feels most comfortable with "hospital" white, bare walls!!!
I'm the opposite and crave colors and walls filled.

    1. Maybe you could meet in the middle. He could have his white walls, and you could accessorize your home with color.

  5. I want to add some lavender and yellow to my sage green and claret red living room for summer. I had some lavender colored silk plants on the mantle last summer. This summer I will put a lavender quilt on the couch and find some yellow stuff. Yellow and green and blue is the theme for the kitchen, so the yellow can spill over into the living room.

Pink definitely works with red. I have Christmas stockings with both pink and red polka dots on them along with other colors.

Let;s coin a new term for your look, "COTTAGE BOHO". Yes, that's perfect for you!

    Sheila :-)

Mr. Magpie told me he joins me in hoping you are better soon. I read your replies today, and I am going to be praying for you as will he. Oh, and I am so glad you got to spend time with your precious grandson. I spent some time catching up on your, and he is a DOLL, Brenda. So is your daughter and her husband. I am over the moon happy for you that they are back! :-)

  20. Cottage Boho sounds like my kind of decor. Brenda, I'm excited to see what you do with this new look in your home. I love color and have a lot of it in my home, but would like to add more myself. Hope your ear is feeling better. I've experienced a ruptured eardrum myself, although not caused by a phone, and it was horribly painful. Take care.

  31. Oh, I like this post! I've really been thinking and studying my rooms since your post on boho style and your reply to my comment. You said not to think of it as replacing what I have but adding or taking away. Like you, it is more the wish for a fresh new approach to color that I desire. All of these above are so yummy that I could easily get sidetracked and not know where to start.

for me, I've decided that I want more than anything to paint all my yellow rooms--kitchen, family room, etc. I want to paint them all white, right now I'm thinking Cloud White, because I have a lot of color in accessories and upholstery. I think if I went to white walls I would know where to go from there. I am drawn to the colors they are showing called South American Fusion--however, I want something that I will still love 5 and 10 years from now since repainting is not easy for us, in our 70s.

Meanwhile, I'm making a start by just removing things, too many things, things I don't love.

    It's a start.

  32. Good post - yes, I need to loosen up and add more color to my house. My sister is quite the gardener and last year she did a pink/red combo with her annuals - she saw it on a blog and it was called the "Paris" look. It was gorgeous and she received many compliments. This has made me think more about the pink/red combo in interiors. Orange and bright pink is a great combo, too.
