Java Talk: Goals For 2015

Some have resolutions for the new year. Some have words they choose to cover all their bases. Some have goals. Some have tentative plans.

So on this first Java Talk of 2015, let's talk about what is important to us to try to accomplish this year.

My goal is to hopefully be able to drive without a boot.

It's to bring new colors into my decor. I'm chomping at the bit, but with this ear business, I'm not in any shape to bend over and paint. So that will have to wait a bit. Another hopeful goal is to not have any freak injuries!

I'm excited to bring what a reader called "Cottage Boho" into my little space. (I like that: Cottage Boho. Maybe it will start a new trend for some of us.) Cottage with a Boho mix.

So what are some goals you've decided to try to achieve in this new year? Grab your coffee or tea and let's chat.

  1. My goals for this year: paint my kitchen cabinets, add some subway tile, lose some weight (again!), clean out my two attics (eeeeeek!), and spend some real time on the beach enjoying this little island I have lived on my entire life. I'm considering cottage boho. I, too, love color but tend to be conservative in our home colors. Maybe I'll change in 2015! Thanks, Brenda. I look forward to your blog with my coffee every morning. Have a healthier day!!

    1. Oh my goodness! You live on an island? I am ever so jealous! Mind telling me in what state, for instance, so I can admire from a distance? My next goal would probably be to live on a little island and not in this congested crime-ridden huge city I live in! We'll all explore color together.

  2. Trying to organize better. Taking small, manageable areas one at a time, clearing out stuff & organizing the things I am keeping. The living room has been purged of old videos and games we no longer use. The kitchen spice cabinet is looking so much better. I have found a nice spot to organize all my eye drops and the refill info for them as well.

    1. Sounds like you're off to a good start! I need to organize legal stuff better. I tend to shove them in my filing cabinet and there's not enough room to file them. So I need to come up with a portable filing system: maybe the dish drainer I use to use! Remember that? I will have to take small areas too, as I'm not feeling like I normally do.

  3. One of my goals is to try to get to bed earlier so I can start my day early and see a few sunrises, among other reasons. Being the night owl that I am, I haven't been able to do it yet, but I'm going to keep working on it. Another goal is to get better organized and weed out those things that I don't love but seem to hang on to anyway. I did get my books all dusted off and gave away many of the ones I knew I wouldn't read again.

    1. I purged a lot of books recently. Gave them to my friend Kay to read. And as she reads them, she's bringing them back for me to give to my younger daughter to read. She and I were the readers in the family. Hard to get rid of some books though! I'm a morning person, so couldn't stay up late if I wanted to.

  4. I have lots on my mind for this year and the main one is to clear out and declutter. I hope to go through all my closets and reorganize. That will take some time!!!
I sure hope your driving goal comes fast Brenda!
    Blessings,
    Cindy

    1. That seems to be the mantra these days: purge and declutter. Of course January is always the month when people start doing this. But I think, with the way things are going toward downsizing, it will be that way all year long.

  5. I hope to check off my list some DIY projects. Paint my kitchen cabinets, and remove wallpaper in the two
bathrooms. If I can get it done in the bathrooms, the kitchen wallpaper will come down next. That will be
    a very big project though.

    1. I have often found it kind of calming and a time when I get a lot of thinking down when I'm stripping wall paper. Something about watching each strip come down feels like such an accomplishment!

  6. I have lots of things I want to learn and do this year... one of my biggest goals is to open an online shop on my own website. I've been working on the website for awhile now, and it is a BIG task...but I am sure learning a lot, designing and putting it together. Hope that ear heals soon, Brenda, and you can get to doing what you want again!

    1. I admire your doing this! Sounds like a challenge. Have you thought of just adding your shop as a Page in Blogger?

    2. I have thought of it and if this turns out to be too big for me I may go that route. I do have etsy shops, but I am trying to do something bigger with several categories and lots of items, and a full shopping cart. My daughter has a new baby, but if she jumps on board...she is a graphic designer, so that would sure help! Meanwhile, it is a great learning experience for me!

  7. Yep- declutter and organize here too.. actually 1 large load to the abused womens shelter and a pick up for the larger item by the Salvation army and at last I will be clutter free.
I even wrote on large poster board and hung in the garage a Reminder Sign saying- no unnessesary Purchases ~!- so it would remind me before I get in the car:-)
I'm also starting a healthy living plan-- 3 days per week will only be fruit and fresh raw veggies- 10, 8 oz, glasses of water 7 days per week. I'm still taking my meds but feel I need to also back that up with a mild liver and kidney cleanse on a daily basis..fresh lemon and broccoli water 30 oz. From the sounds of it I should be able to FLOAT my way to healthier lol...
Havent called cause I know your ear is hurting. if ya need me, call me.. hugs and good wishes~!

  8. My biggest goal for the coming year is to improve my health and well being! Eat better, walk more and less stress!

    ReplyDelete

    1. That sounds like one we all need to do! I need to be able to walk good first.

  9. I am retiring this year so my goal is to de-clutter!! It will be hard to part with "stuff". I'm hoping once I start it will get easier. I'm looking for calm and new beginnings!! Hope the ear problem heals soon!

    1. I've found that once you start, it gets easier. I would tackle one room at a time.

  10. My goal is to be a better, smarter, healthier 71 year old. So far I have started a swim exercise class, I am participating in an online Christian women's group, I start Spanish lessons on Mon. and I am learning how to use essential oils to treat inflammation, sleep issues and to boost my metabolism. I have plenty of free time and have not been using it wisely, too much computer play and unstructured exercise. I am putting my new activities out there in hopes that I will keep them up with encouragement and other people's support. On the home front I have tossed and donated many bags of clothing and dishes and books. Gayle who will show up as hubby Rollie!

  11. My goal for the year is to be more frugal. I hope your ear heals quickly!

  12. I want to paint and rearrange my formal Living room. It is the only room in the house that still has the original paint and carpeting, mostly because it is rarely used. I want to slipcover the old sofa and chairs and pull up the old area rug and have a change, make it more cozy and useable. If I ever move, I do not want a formal room. We already knocked down the wall between the kitchen and dining room to just have an eat in kitchen, best thing we ever did to this house. I am half English, so I lean toward English Country and French Country. I love color, but am thinking of going very neutral so I can change the color accents with the seasons. It has all wood trim and I would like to paint that white, as I have already done in my foyer.

    1. Sounds like a good plan. Formal rooms just seem like a waste to me.

  13. I have decided to cultivate peace in my life; that's what my blog post is about today.

  14. I can't wait to see photos, Brenda! I need to paint the kitchen (have the paint already), and get back into knitting!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Of course with this VERY cold weather, I'm anxious to see spring bulbs come up. Not for months yet though! I always admire someone who can knit. What color are you painting your kitchen?

  15. Brenda, I can't wait to see some of your clever ideas. I liked the post before this one. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  16. I have a lot of goals for my blog for this year.. I really need to sit down and write all of them out, right now they're all kind of in my head... this year is already flying by!

  17. I always set some sort of goal within reason. I have a goal of cooking healthy meals for myself 2 times a week, plenty of left overs for my lunches for work, only eating out twice a month and NO diet soda's at work, only ice tea. At the end of the year my biggest goal is to purchase a brand new car. I know I can do everything, but the diet soda will probably be the hardest! I cannot wait to see your Cottage Boho decor. I am working on purging my ever growing magazine pile. I am tearing out the articles or pictures and putting them in a little folder and recycling the magazines.

    1. I need to do that with my magazines again too. A new car sounds like a fantastic goal!

  18. I have several goals for this year. I'm very interested in your concept of Cottage Boho, since my home is small and very cottage-y. Hoping to make these changes on a budget, so I'm looking forward to your creative ideas! My stuffed closets definitely need to be cleaned out. But, most important, devise a plan to lose weight, so my feet and ankles quit hurting. So sorry about your ear problem. Wishing you a speedy recovery...

    1. I just cleaned my closets two months ago, and now need to do them again. It's so darned cold in them you can barely stand in there though.

  19. Hi Brenda,
I have a suggestion regarding your ear problem. I also have ear issues. I found if I take 25 mg of Rugby travel sickness tablets every night I do not get an upset stomach. They are behind the counter and they are non prescription. I have been taking one tablet every night since 2000. Relief from nausea is so wonderful. Hope you have a wonderful day.

  20. My goals for this year are many - as you well know. Starting out is just taking one day at a time and appreciating each and every moment of those days. The bathrooms and kitchen are on that list but in due time.

Hope this year is a great one for you.

    1. I'm so glad you're getting to this. I think it will be very exciting.

  21. Have to admit to decluttering goals here too, mainly as a way to simplify my life more, to give me more time to enjoy the things I love to do. At 71, I want to spend more time doing what I like to do, not more time doing what I don't enjoy.

Is that selfish? I hope not but I really feel like if not now, when?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not selfish at all! In fact it's healthy to do so!

      Delete
  22. Like many others, decluttering is high on my list. I need to have organization in my life to stay on track, all those little things start to accumulate into a big mess if you're not careful. My other goals for the year are focused on health issues. Finding relief from chronic back pain with massage and other therapies, mindfulness and meditation. Losing weight is essential this year, the pounds have really crept up on me so healthy eating is high on my list. Maybe starting a new blog about health and wellness to keep me motivated. Wishing you a happy 2015!

    1. Weight has crept up on me too. Not being able to get out and about and move around much.

  23. Take on one or two new business clients and finally start weaving on the floor loom I purchased 7 years ago!

    1. That sounds fun! My cousin in Eureka Springs opened a weaving shop in town. Think it's called Red Scottie.

  24. I have many goals, to get rid of old pains, enjoy more simple things in life, be happier more content! Work my way into our two first floor bedrooms, change one into a guest bedroom, and the other into an office. Right now you can't get into either one! Oh, and remodel the downstairs bathroom!

    ReplyDelete
  25. First, trying not to freeze to death it is so darn cold right now, lol...
Opening an etsy shop is the other : )

    ReplyDelete
  26. Clean out the attic so the rental unit payment is no more, finish painting the woodwork on the second floor, learn to deal with my mom's dementia better, and take at least a 2 day getaway with my husband. (My mom lives with us.) Prayers for a boot free year for you Brenda and a quick healing with your eardrum!

    ReplyDelete
  27. My one and only goal for 2015 is to recapture my joy while indulging in creative fun. I've let others take it away from me. That's way too much control of my life

Once I've completed achieved that one goal everything else should simply fall into place. :-)
