If you pay for the premium Picmonkey (I think I pay about $25 a year; tax deductible for me) then you can take advantage of every new and exciting feature they regularly introduce to us.
The new Dodge & Burn controls dark and light. You can take a photo and pick out individual parts, and do your magic. I suggest watching the video, as I just did. It is a tutorial on how to use this new feature. Picmonkey is my go-to site for editing photos, creating designs and banners, using fonts and overlays on photos, and any graphics I want to use for my blog. I love their many features! I stopped using Photoshop (which I found complicated) a long time ago, because I have everything I need at Picmonkey.
