Best Bedding For August

I hate to try and go to sleep when I'm hot. And having the overhead fan running makes me cough.

So this morning I took the quilts off my bed. And got this navy blanket out of the closet. I left my fitted and flat sheet, and just folded the blanket underneath the mattress.

This way, at night when I might get a bit cool, as it was last night, I simply untuck the blanket and pull it over me. (I don't have it tucked in by the wall.)

I'm so glad I didn't give into a whim and paint this red again. I think it is beautiful orange. And orange and red can live comfortably and beautifully together in my opinion.

Abi is happy because she got to lay on a soft blanket and also got in every photo. One pleased pupster!

When winter comes, I can make the bed back up with quilts. But for now, this is what I need to sleep in the hot August heat.

You notice the bedding is wrinkled. Well, I slept on those pillows last night. And I don't go so far as to iron things for my posts!

I keep a laptop in here to work on at night. There is a little red votive in a vintage mason jar lid. And I have my TV remote, fingernail file, and a couple of pens in the little white pitcher you see.

So how do you feel about the reds and oranges together? Is it a bit much for you? Would you be able to live with all this color?

I definitely can. So don't worry about your opinion swaying me in any way!

  2. I love color, Brenda, so your room is perfection! Of course, a cute pup is just icing on your fabulously decorated bedroom cake!

  3. You make everything look great, no matter the color combo. And, yes, my fingernail file (and a clipper) are never far away from wherever I am.

  4. I love, love, love your orange cabinet. With light colours it can look as fresh and happy as a summer's day . And with a few changes, it can look as warm and rich as a cosy winter's fire. I've got to paint something orange! Red and orange together? Of course. But then, you have the eye for knowing which shades of red and orange harmonize. Not many of us are so gifted.

  5. Your bedroom is absolutely perfect for you, Brenda. I have to have neutral colors in my bedroom. We are all so different. xo Laura

  6. I change bedding with the seasons. In the heat of summer, we use only a loose weave cotton blanket without a top sheet. In the spring and fall, I put the top sheet back on and add a thin quilt over the cotton blanket. In the winter I store the cotton blanket and replace it with an electric blanket. I can't sleep if the temperature is not just right.
I love your mix of colors. My bedroom is blue and white, but I recently covered the chair in orange and added an orange cover to the vanity chair.

  7. Oh Brenda, your bedroom and bedding looks so sweet, warm and cozy! Well, hopeful not warm (wink, wink!). I love everything you do, orange, red … I love the quilt above your bed too! Waking up in a room like yours would give one a nice jump start to a great day! Abi looks so content! xox

  10. Yes! I have an orange side table too! The paint naming powers that be... at Valspar, call it Terra Cotta Red. I on the other hand can see that it's orange. I have it in my bedroom with my quilt that has a number of true red blocks... My table is orange. It goes in the room nicely. It's not getting repainted.
Well, not right now. Because I like it.
I like your room too..with the bed in the corner! It's just you climbing in and out of it, so why not?
Lots of extra floor space too.

    1. You did not pick it up from me. I just had Cox Tech Solutions, who I pay $14.99 a month to service my computers 24/7, run every scan they have. I did not even have a bit of malware. He said just because you open up your computer and I'm the first thing you see is not how you pick up viruses.

  15. Your room looks like you. I had not liked orange and red together, but have a cow painting now in my kitchen that has both. It helps tie together some small appliances I have, but that's not why I got it. I use quilts in my bedroom all year, and just fold the one I'm using down each night to the end of the bed. I use a light cotton blanket to cover up with, over my top sheet all year. I've gotten used to the light weight feeling even in cold weather and can't sleep under the weight of quilts any more.

  16. I love painted furniture and would have more of it in my home if my husband liked it as much as I do. He's a natural wood guy and I like both types of pieces. As for the red and orange... it works!

  17. I love your lamp shade! Just so pretty and adorable.

My summer bed is like yours. Bottom sheet, top sheet, blanket, and a quilt folded in thirds at the foot of the bed just in case.

  20. Your bedroom looks so cozy. I like the reds and that shade of orange together. Your lamp shade is so pretty. I was recently trying to have a quilt on the bed and just fold it down at the bottom during this warm weather. Then I realized that I can't stand anything weighing down on my feet, with it folded at the bottom of the bed it was too heavy across my feet. So it is put away again and I just have two top sheets on my bed. No blanket, no quilt just sheets.

Your little poser pup looks so pleased to be up there on your bed posing for pictures.

  23. I'm not into a lot of different colors together, BUT I love your place. I can feel my pulse slow down when I look at the pictures of your little home.

  24. Brenda, I love your bedroom. I especially love all of the had-stitched treasures in the room. That quilt on the wall is beautiful and makes such a wonderful focal point. Did you create the lamp shade with the lovely stitched pieces on it? Love that. It all looks great!

  25. My answer: look at the color wheel. That is why it works.

  26. I love all your colors together! I figure they coexist in the rainbow and a flower garden, so they can be together in your room too. Yours is so happy and cozy looking.

  27. Neutrals can be so boring! Love your room. Great place to wake up in the morning!
Keep on keeping on as you do. If the flowers can mix and match, so can you......

  30. I love your delightful bedroom with all the colors. Abu is adorable as always. Great lampshade did you make it?

  31. The way you mix colors, especially with your colorful quilts, everything works. Now, for me, I have to stick to my antique wooden pieces of furniture.. I wouldn't dare paint them...........they are over 100 years old.........I inherited them.
Having your sweet babies in your pictures gives your home such a warm, cozy, alive touch.
    Have a great weekend !

  34. I think your colors always look good together. I like that you are adding red back. Are you still going for a BoHo look. But like someone else said, you have the eye for color. Sweet pup. I miss mine a lot. Hank keeps me busy and has been a welcome addition but when I see Yorkies it tugs at the heartstrings a little.

  35. You bet I like the orange and red together...The more color there is the happier I feel!!!

  36. Of course I love it together! Not everyone can pull it off but you sure have. Maybe it's the intensity of both colors that makes it work? And the dark navy blanket adds a sophisticated touch.

  37. Mixing the colors really works here and I love red and orange together. Love the navy blanket you added. It anchors the room with the busy designs in the quilts. Really pretty Brenda. Abi is so cute!!
Have a nice rest of the weekend. cm
