Decorating Is A Balancing Act

I told you I found a few other goodies at the Jenks antique mall. I felt I needed something on either side of this quilt, since it isn't as wide as the other one.

I came across this arrow, which was chippy white. I took some of my blue paint and made it chippy rustic blue!

And I needed something for the other side, so this rake (? does anyone know what this is?) is what came home with me to balance things out. Both were well under $10.

I had considered painting this green dresser. But after living with it a few weeks, I've decided the room needs that sedate shade of green with everything else going on.

It's all about balance.

Abi told me she wants to be absolutely sure that you see her posing for the camera for you...

  1. That is a rake - it looks just like one I bought around 30 years ago, it was made for décor, not an actual rake t use.

  7. I'm seeing a fresh new look here am I not? I stop over regularly and today I'm responding with a wow, I'm liking this. A fresh new look for my blog is almost as rewarding as a fresh new [uncluttered] house after chaotic but thorough and satisfying spring/fall cleaning season.

  12. That's a miniature reproduction of an old time hay rake. I was raised on a farm in KY and we had them hanging in the barn. Of course my dad pulled a hay rake behind his tractor, but grandpa, granny and their 11 children did it the old fashion way. I was born in '56, btw. When dad died, mom had to auction off the farm, all those old farm implements went for pennies. I was young, newly married and broke at the time. But I sure regret not trying to buy the farm.

  35. I recognized the rake as a 'hay rake' too. The real ones were actually much larger. If you visit a farming museum you would see them there.

I love Abi's one ear up and one ear down pose!
