My New Coffee Table & Behr Paint

I found this little coffee table in an antique mall. It was $35. I really liked the lines of it, so it went into my Pathfinder.

Then I drove to Home Depot and went to the paint department. I stood and looked at all the gorgeous colors before I chose BEHR MARQUEE INTERIOR PAINT & PRIMER in a beautiful blue hue. It was called Empire Blue. I purchased two quarts, thinking I would probably need both.

If I'd known how much work I'd have to do to get this coffee table in good enough shape to paint, I probably would have passed on it. I realized as I worked on it that it had been in a flood, and there was extensive water damage. But I soldiered on. I knew if I could just get past the damage, I might have a cute little coffee table for my apartment.

For days I worked on it. I got discouraged. Some days I wanted to throw in the towel.

But I live a frugal life, and I didn't want to waste that $35. I wanted the vision I first had when my eyes fell on the table to come to fruition. Somehow.

I started sanding the top, only to realize that I was going to have to take off the top veneer. Once I chipped away at that with a putty knife and hammer, I realized I was going to have to go through the next level. Argh!

I began to wish I'd never even walked past the little white coffee table. I didn't know if I was ever going to be able repair the damage.

But I'd already chosen this luscious blue paint, and I knew it would be so pretty if I could ever get to the finish line!

It took an entire tube of wood putty to fix one leg and fill the many holes. I was standing there squeezing with all my might to get every last bit of putty out. Then I let it dry overnight.

After a lot of work and filling holes and fixing of drawers, I finally got to the point where I could open the can of paint, and take a brush to my starved-for-love and now bare-of-paint smoothly sanded table.

I really thought I would need both quarts of this paint, because the wood was basically bare and very dried out when I started painting. But to my surprise, it didn't even take half of one quart! I'll have to find another project, because I really love this Empire Blue.

I am now smitten with my blue coffee table. I found some cute knobs to replace the broken ones that were originally on it. It proudly sits in the living space of my little apartment.

I am so happy I chose the little water-damaged and unloved piece of furniture, and even happier that I chose this beautiful shade of blue BEHR MARQUEE Interior Paint & Primer to finally turn it into a swan.

Here's a before look:

And here's the after:

It looks great with my fall decor on it. I recently hosted a 28 blog fall home tour. I was really wanting to show off my little gem. And show it off I did! It was a hit with the other bloggers and my readers. I am so glad I didn't throw in the towel and give up on it. Because now it's the crowning jewel of my living room.
