Market Trends For 2016

Now I don't tend to let trends dictate what I do. However, trends are what stores will be selling, from what they see at market.

So here are just some of the styles predicted to be big in 2016.

Benjamin Moore's Color Of The Year is Simply White.

I think this is could be part of the simplification process many people are wanting to bring into their lives.

Shiny is in style.

According to the Dwell on Design conference, sustainable products are very popular. Everything from the latest in technology to the latest in textile manufacturing.

Bringing the outdoors in.

David Bromstad said this means that consumers will be buying furniture that they can use indoors and outdoors.

Hey, I've been doing that for years!

Artisan Goods - globally crafted goods. Nate Berkus says that consumers should not be afraid to mix vintage and globally crafted goods. Like pairing a Moroccan rug with a table from Target.

Minerals  - Minerals are going au natural. You will see big chunks of quartz on display and unpolished semi-precious stones as door pulls.

Delft tiles are in...

Mixing metallics and metals - Embrace retro bling.

Desks are in style...Get off the laptop in bed.

(The bedroom above was designed by Sam Allen.)

Perky Pedestals are in style...

House Beautiful

Guatemalan Fabrics are in style...

Blue is in. Particularly navy, indigo and denim.

Do you like them or do you hate them?

  1. Hi, Brenda. I had read just the other day that BM's color of the year was Simply White. Must be a really nice white. I'm not really into modern or metals, but the colors in those fabrics and the blue and white delft are to die for.

I want to wish you a very Happy New Year 2016! I pray it's your best year yet!!

  2. I'm not a trend girl, so I never really pay attention. I like what I like and if I can't find it in the stores, I'll make it. I am all for simple though and who doesn't like white? ;) Happy New Year, Brenda!

  3. I tend to follow my own style. But always interesting to read about the latest trends! White is one of my favorite colors.

  4. Happy New Year, Brenda! White always works for me. It is neutral and adds brightness in areas where there are no windows or very small windows.....

  9. Simply white YES! Tissue pink NO! The other trends sound okay to me but like you I don't really follow trends. I'm so out of style and that's fine with me ;-)

  10. Happy New Year my dear, and you know I don't really care about trends either. I just dream up my own thing, and if it happens to coincide with trendy -- well hey, cool. Don't care for the tissue pink, looks like a hangover. Love, the Indigo, so much that I did up the husband's den a couple of years ago in it. I have little desks all over the house, but my laptop is usually in my lap or on a pillow. The pillow raises it just enough and keeps the heat off the thighs which I hear get burned from laptops. Also, I read that double chins result from laptops that are too low. So -- I use a pillow. Just my two cents!

  11. I like the blue and white tiles. As to the rest, aside from white paint, gag me, lol! :)

This reminds me of a conversation on a quilting forum not too long ago where the Pantone colors for the year were basically a pale blue and pink and only 1 person out ten liked that.

Still it is interesting to see these predictions and how many SHEEP will follow over time :) For tonight I am babysitting a PUPPY and wish that he'd follow MY Dogs like SHEEP and get potty trained, lol

  13. I love the tissue pink. It's soft and pretty and kind of 1940s. I just might have to paint my bedroom.
i like white but I actually need color around me and it's easier to paint rather than buy new furniture. Cheaper too.

  15. My previous comment just flew into the air somewhere, so sorry if there ends up to be two......I heard it was the year of the WHITE KITCHEN as well. Well.....I'm seeing lots of 60's vibe in some of these pictures. I like some of it. And the Tissue Pink is perfect for a lot of things.....and flattering to all. :) Happy New Year Brenda, and all.

  16. I am definitely over the Global Fair Trade thing. I finally figured out that it is just a marketing ploy. The sellers ask a lot of money for things they paid nothing for in third world countries. I question how much the makers of these items were actually paid.

  17. I don't like white throughout a house. Colors make me feel alive. I don't follow trends. I do what makes me happy some shabby chic some wicker beautiful rugs. I also liked the pink-touch of feminine softness.

  19. I like some of it, dislike some and don't care one way or the other about some. I have always liked dusty pink, I am just finally warming up to white, love delft and never gave up denim. So this my be my year if I decide to actually change anything. Thanks for the update.

  20. I was raised to buy furniture that is well-made rather than a trend. I think the shiny furniture might look okay in a NYC high rise apartment, but something more traditional will always be in style in a home a lot longer. I do like that blue and green combo of the living room you have posted, and will most likely NEVER use the tissue pink color trend. It's way too bedroom-ish looking and I don't think too many husband's will want to wake up to those colors in the bedroom, the bathroom or any other room in the house.

  21. I think it is fun to read the new trends every year....it makes you wonder if people sit in a room and just pick things at random....I might folow something if it catches my eye but I mostly do what I want to do....cant afford most of that stuff anyway! Happy New Year!

  23. I'm not one to follow trends - I'd rather follow my heart. If I love something, I'll take it home and find a place for it in my home. And there will always be color in my home. Happy New Year, my friend!

  24. I'm a fan of some of those things, but I'll keep marching to the beat of my own drum. Shiny furniture...no. Never have and never will enjoy high laquer or shine on furniture. It's a good thing, too, with all these dogs. ;)
Wishing you a wonderful 2016, Brenda!
