Today I’m going to tell you how I created my vintage children themed tree for the holidays.
What You Will Need:
- Online vintage images of children
- A printer
- Jar lids
- Decoupage glue
- Foam brush
- Ribbon or jute
First I looked online for vintage images that were free to use. Then I printed these images off to use in my jar lid Christmas ornament project.
I purchased Mason jar lids and bands. You can buy these separate from the jars and they’re sold in sets at places like Walmart or Amazon.
You will also need decoupage glue such as Mod Podge, and a foam brush.
These were the only supplies I needed to make my ornament project. I already had jute to tie the ornaments to my Christmas tree.
Aren’t their cherubic little faces adorable? All but one of the images I printed off were of children. But they’re all black and white vintage images.
A good place to start looking for free images is at The Graphics Fairy website.
Websites With Free Vintage Children Images:
It is a really cheap and easy way to craft your own ornaments. As long as you have a computer and a printer, you’re set.
Just save the images you want to use and then print them off on your printer.
Vintage Children Themed Ornament Instructions:
- Find free images of vintage children to print off from the internet.
- Lay the jar lid over the printed images and use a pencil to draw around the round lid. Then cut them out with scissors.
- Brush decoupage glue on the backs of the images. Then press the images down into the jar lids.
- Use ribbon or jute to tie the lids onto your Christmas tree.
In the above ornament, I didn’t print out a child’s image. Instead I chose a group of women from the olden days standing together.
It’s like looking into another era. Children look so innocent, no matter when they’re photographed.
The Vintage Children Themed Tree:
So this is how I created my vintage children themed Christmas tree.
I like how the DIY ornaments look with the candy canes, the faux peppermint candies, the red birds, and gold ornaments.
I also have a white tabletop tree in the bedroom that I showed you yesterday. And then I have the little red one placed on the white trunk.
If you’re curious about my using jute to tie the ornaments to the tree, I do this so that the ornaments don’t get knocked off.
This also might be a fun craft project to do with children.
Tabletop Christmas trees are perfect for small spaces. I like to put up two or three around my home to enjoy during the holidays.
Love the ornaments and little trees. Hope Abi is better.
