Taking Care Of Business...Like Email

With the new year started, I had things on my list to take care of. One was dealing with unwanted emails that clog my inbox each day.

This morning I started unsubscribing from the many email lists I was subscribed to.

I don't know how I got on some. Others I kept telling myself, next time I'll unsubscribe. Then next time I wouldn't.

Some made it easy. Some made it difficult. But every email I got today that wasn't personal, even Decor Steals, got deleted from my subscribe list.

I don't need more stuff. But that one was the hardest to let go of.

Every day I'm sure there will be more to deal with. And instead of saying to myself: "Oh, I'll unsubscribe next time," I'm just making myself deal with it when it comes in.

So in tidying up my life and simplifying things, dealing with the many unwanted emails I get was on the "to do" list.

Dealing with email takes up so much time. I'd much rather read the emails from all of you than deal with ads and promotions I don't need.

If you want to start simplifying and dealing with "time hogs", start deleting those email subscriptions you don't really want anymore.

Or maybe (like with Decor Steals) you may want, but know you don't need.

  1. I've been working on this too, Brenda. I hate to admit it but so many of those emails are all about shopping and I need to do less of that right now. Saying good by to those messages. :)

  2. I need to do this, too. Way too much junk coming through.

  3. Purging that list isn't easy. Thanks for the encouragement!

  4. I do this too. I cannot stand clutter in my in box. I see teachers at school with mailboxes full, I on the other hand trash them or put them in respective sub folders. I have been doing this with my blogroll and you tube sub list as well. If it is no longer pertinent to me, out it goes.

  5. This is a constant battle. I don't know how some of them even get in my email.

  6. Apparently we are on the same wave length, Brenda. xo Laura

  7. I started deleting them a few months ago and it's been wonderful having less clutter in my "inbox".
    Have a great day Brenda!

  9. Thanks for reminding me to do this. It has been a really long time! I get far too many unwanted emails. I'm looking forward to this task!

  10. I recently did this en masse and now I am taking care of the stragglers. It feels good! :)

  11. Yep. I don't even know how I got on a lot of these lists. The worst are the "erectile dysfunction" ads and others of that ilk.

  12. I did this a few months ago and it felt great. There are some I'm on the fence about, so I'll keep them for now and just delete them if I'm not in the mood to read them.

  13. Funny, I started an new email for this very reason, I thought if I started over I would be less likely to get myself in the too much email to ever look through funk. Well, I wish I could say it helped, but as I am a hopeless ponderer, I am right back where I started.
I think I have some OCD qualities as I cannot rest with the clutter, and when I attempt to stay away from email it piles up leading me to a massive panic (I'm serious)..how then can my ex-husband have his email with no fewer than 9,999 emails saved at all times?
I wish all you New Year Unclutterers the very best at staying on top of the heap..

  14. I try to do this a couple of times a year. January is a great time to simplify things and email is on my list also.

  15. Brenda,
I tried to delete decor steals several times but always thought the same thing, "ok next time." I finally did several months ago and am surviving ;)

  18. Ditto! I unsubscribed to all the merchants I used for the christmas holiday shopping. I feel so much better. My DIL was saying the same thing. So many follow-up emails from them as your pkg travels across the country! All gone. On a MAC AIR is there a way to go through them quickly and check them off then push delete once? No, I'm not technically advanced, as you can see.

  19. I've done this as well. I am enjoying an uncluttered inbox!
