Yellow Tulips & A Rewards Points Purchase

Yesterday I was at the Walmart Market (the little store with food; not the giant one), and I saw these yellow tulips. Oh, they reminded me of spring time!

I wonder if my white tulips, that I have layered in my containers on the patio, will come back up this year? I hope so. I just love tulips.

I was online looking at Wayfair the other day. And I noticed something that said I had reward points. I hadn't known about this. Missed it somehow.

It said I had $25 in rewards money. I called and asked what this was. It's points you accumulate as you make purchases.

So I ordered this hand mixer. I haven't had a mixer in a few years, so I thought I might need one at some point, and this one was the right price.

I only had to pay $2 for it with my rewards money, just for having bought products from Wayfair. Good deal!

What I particularly want to show you about this mixer is that underneath it is storage for the beaters/attachments.

As I'm very conscious of living in a small space, I look for products that have storage, if possible, so it saves me space. Or at least doesn't take up even more space.

Not only that, but I won't have to look everywhere for the beaters when I go to use it!

The stand serves another purpose. You can sit your mixer on the plastic bowl rest when you need to use your hands, which is a great addition for me, queen of clumsy. A bowl rest was an additional feature that sold me on this mixer.

However, I haven't used it yet. I'll let you know my review when I do.

I had a stand mixer before I moved here, a pretty red Sunbeam I'd had for many years, but sold it because it was so big. I didn't really like hand mixers because of that very problem: where to sit it when you need to use your hands to get ingredients, etc.

This solves that problem as well. So I'm a happy camper.

I just got back from the dentist. I was pretty sure I was going to have to have two crowns, but thank goodness I didn't.

Do you know what crowns cost these days? It was going to be $2400 if I paid cash! Holy smokes!

I let my dental insurance go because they wouldn't pay for anything but having your teeth cleaned once per year. NOTHING on expenses like crowns.

So tomorrow I go back to get my teeth cleaned and be screened for oral cancer, which my dentist really encourages. Around $200 for the screening and cleaning. But sure better than $2400. And that price was only good if they didn't have to do a build up for my crown.

They encouraged me to be screened for oral cancer. They told me that if you have stage 3 or 4 oral cancer, it can be seen with the naked eye. But in the earlier stages, it can be caught with the screening.

So you might think about this when you go to your dentist next.

She thought my toothache is from sinus inflammation. So I headed to CVS and had the pharmacist help me find a medication that doesn't mess with your blood pressure. And they have them now for special needs like high blood pressure.

Don't know what mine is. I stopped taking it a few months ago. It's too upsetting when it's high. I figure I see my internist next month. I'll let her take it.

If you need a lift in this cold weather, the tulips at Walmart were under $5!

  1. I would love to have one of those pretty colorful Kitchen Aid mixer sitting on my counter, but I just don't have the space and I rarely use one so it is a needless expense.

    What is Wayfair?

  2. Mixers always come in handy in the kitchen when cooking/baking. I have one but since I moved cannot find one of the beaters. Unless I find it in one of the boxes I need to look into Wayfair. Sounds like a great way to keep those beaters in one spot.

    1. I can tell you the first thing I lose with a mixer are the beaters. Maybe this one will be easier for me!

  3. Tulips are my favorite too, they look like a glimpse of spring, definitely needed with this cold we're having in upstate NY.
I take coricidin HBP,usually works well, sinus infections just flatten me though.

  4. I don't have a stand mixer, but use the hand type. I like yours. Yes, my two crowns for my implants are running similarly here in WV. That's only PART of my expense for two implants. When my tooth abscessed (starting my whole process last March), my BP went really high - scared me, which made it worse. I'm wondering what the oral screening is - a panoramic (CT) scan? Hope your conditions improves, Brenda.

  5. Loved seeing the yellow tulips as well, I have yellow daffodils planted in pots, so pretty last year, hoping they will come up again this spring.

    1. I typically plant red tulips, but wanted to change things up a few years ago when I moved here and planted white. Maybe I'll add red at some point.

  6. Take care with those over the counter sinus meds, especially antihistamines. I didn't know I was taking the same thing in multiple medications and damaged my sinuses by taking too much for too long last fall. I was miserable for two months because I wasn't more careful. Hope it works and that you feel better soon.

    1. It says take two every six hours. I only took it once yesterday, and probably will do the same today. I hate that dried out feeling, so will space it farther apart.

  7. Love the new mixer with its bottom storage area. I have a kitchen aide with 3 attachments that have no permanent home I hung them on hooks didn't like that ...had them in a basket didn't like that either. Still working on a permanent place. The tulips are so pretty makes me think of Spring even though its in the 40's here in SW Florida. Lisa@ Sweet Tea N' Salty Air

Have you checked into dental plans? They have a set price for certain procedures and cleaning fees that the dentist contracts with the plan. You just need to see if your dentist participates.

    2. Brenda, It's not insurance but a dental plan. You can search dental plan with your zip. They are lower fees for procedures contracted between dentist and plan. Reduced prices on all procedures for a monthly or yearly plan fee.

  13. That's a good deal on the little mixer! I love "free money." I have never heard of that screening either, but it's a good idea. I dread being told I need crowns now, because I don't have any dental insurance either since the husband retired.

  24. Pretty tulips! I have a hand mixer and it gets on my nerves too. I can never find the beaters and just where do you set it when you need to do something else... on the counter and it makes a mess. I've had my hand mixer for 20 years.. I guess I could splurge on something similar to yours. I don't think I would use a big mixer.. I've gotten along without one this long... :)

  25. We no longer have dental insurance either. We added up the premium and subtracted the two annual cleanings we get and also looked at the coverages we get vs. don't get. It's cheaper just to pay for our own cleanings. Such a rip off to pay for dental insurance imho. I too love tulips. Especially yellow ones.

  26. I have had the same mixer for several years...the handy little container for beaters wasn't offered then...the mixer still works great tho...

  27. Wow! Dental costs are higher where you live than in So. Calif! I work in a dental office and we charge $94 for a cleaning and exam which includes oral cancer screening. Our crowns are $966 and no extra charge for build-up. My boss is contracted with Delta Dental so our fees have to be approved by them according to our zip code. (For example, we requested $1000 fee for our crowns and they approved $966).

    1. Well, isn't that the pits? I've learned that many things are just higher her. Oklahoma has the highest car insurance rates in the nation, for instance. I had dental insurance, but it was fairly worthless. Only paid for one cleaning a year and no x-rays. So my daughter, who is in HR and does this kind of thing, told me not to bother with dental insurance, because she said it isn't worth it.

    2. They're charging me $30 for the oral cancer screening.

    3. I agree about the dental insurance, we tell people it isn't worth it if you are trying to buy insurance on your own (those kind of policies usually don't pay well on the expensive procedures like crowns). polocies that are offered to people through employers usually are the best. I do feel though that the oral cancer screening should be part of the exam that is included with your cleaning, they should not charge you extra for that

    4. Oops, spelled policies wrong!

  28. I used my Wayfair points towards a bookcase for the lower level to give my daughter additional storage when she moved back home. I love your tulips!!! My local market has the worst flowers....not even worth bothering with.

  31. Love that you are doing so much getting out and around. You are building up your ability to withstand bigger situations if they pop up and in the meantime you are getting done what you need to do by picking places you feel you can control you anxiety. Good job.

  32. I had forgotten that Wayfair had that program. I should go look at how many points I have. Can you believe my husband and I use different mixers? He has the big heavy fancy one and I have the "normal" little one......and I sure like your little attachment thing on yours. Sorry about the whole dental thing. I'm glad that you dodged the bullet of double crowns! I'm in Southern Califormia and my dentist has been doing cancer screening of the mouth for some time now....and I don't recall them charging extra but maybe they just stuck the increase somewhere else.

  33. That's actually not a bad price for crowns. Even with dental insurance (which I agree, totally sucks - we've never had a good plan) we pay $900 out of pocket for a crown. I've had 4 or 5 so you'd think I'd be a queen by now. ;-)
Never heard of Walmart Market. We don't have those here. Just the huge Walmart stores, which I loathe.
I've had the same handheld mixer since our wedding shower back in 1983! I rarely use it anymore though, as I have a big KitchenAid mixer. I use that thing all the time. My grandma gave it to me about 27 years ago and it's still going strong.
