How To Put Collections On Display
There are various ways how to put collections on display. I would say three or more things constitute a collection.
The most obvious way to display your collection is to put everything together. But there are other ways to display collections to make them look like works of art in your decor.
How To Display Red Transfer Ware:
I like to collect red transfer ware. I found an purchased various transfer ware on Etsy and eBay.
My favorite way to display them is in my open kitchen cabinets.
I display them here and there along with with my white dishes. It’s a good combination. I’ve also display my red transfer ware in vignettes.
And I also have a small white hobnail vase collection displayed on the top shelf.
How To Display A Pitcher Collection:
I also collect white pitchers. All shapes and sizes of white pitchers. I’ve picked them up from places like Marshall’s, Tuesday Morning, or antique malls. Here and there and everywhere.
Recently I arranged all my white pitchers on my fireplace mantel. I’d never put them all out at the same time before because I couldn’t figure out a big enough place to display them.
But now I have a fireplace mantel and it is a perfect place to put your collections on display.
I put a strand of battery-powered tiny lights around the pitchers, and it looked so beautiful at night.
So your fireplace mantel is one place to put your collections on display.
I rent my apartment, so I can’t paint the walls. But I’d love to paint the back of a shelf a bright color and then line up the white pitchers against the colorful backdrop.
I might just order temporary wallpaper and do that instead of painting a background.
How To Display A Collection Of Vintage Rolling Pins:
The most obvious choice to display a rolling pin collection is in your kitchen. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be your kitchen.
Stacking a rolling pin collection in a dough bowl is a perfect way to show them off. They make a nice centerpiece for your dining table.
You can gather them in various containers, or you can even devise ways to put rolling pins on the wall.
Here’s another way to display rolling pins that I found online. It would also be a great idea for renters. Just measure and place hooks on a piece of wood.
This one is just leaned against a wall. I think this is a very clever non-permanent way to display a rolling pin collection.
How To Display A Collection Of Vintage Bottles:
I also collect vintage bottles. Most are clear because they’re easier to come by. But I have some bottles that are an aqua type blue, but they’re harder to come by.
I like to display them in this round galvanized container. Or I place them on a white tray for coffee table decor.
This collector placed their vintage bottles in an old box, and it looks lovely.
How To Display A Collection Of Books & Magazines:
I like to collect a variety of books and magazines as well. This red farmhouse container, found on clearance at Hobby Lobby, is a great place to show off my books.
And the tobacco basket is a good place to store magazines.
I thumb through the books and magazines from time to time so I hate to get rid of them.
How To Display Old Mason Jars:
I’ve collected vintage Mason jars for a long time.
Probably my favorite way to display them is simply to line them up on a shelf. They look so pretty that way in almost military precision.
The above photo is a way to go all out with a mason jar collection. It takes up one whole corner of the room.
How To Display Vintage Photos:
I like to take a few vintage photos and clip them to an old cheese grater with a clothes pin. You could use it in a vignette or place it on a shelf or mantel.
Sometimes I’ll buy old photos from an antique mall. I jokingly call them my flea market relatives.
Don’t you wonder why someone would sell photos of their own family?
You can gather a handful of vintage photos together and fan them out in a container like I did in the above photo.
Since I love the color red, I think these sepia toned photos are a great contrast against this bright spicy hue.
Dish Collection:
This dish collection, all different kinds of dishes, I gather in a vintage dish drainer. When placed in this dish drainer it allows you to see them all at the same time without the collection taking up much space.
You could also purchase or build a plate rack to display a collection of plates on the wall.
How To Display A Collection Of Vintage Sewing Items:
This collection is made up of a variety of things one would use for sewing. Pin cushions, embroidery thread, etc.
They are displayed in a dough bowl in the above photo.
Here I’ve placed a variety of vintage sewing notions together on a table in my office/craft/sewing room.
How To Display Vintage Button Cards:
In that same vein I like to collect vintage button cards.
Above I have them all in various vintage measuring containers. Which really when you think about it, the old metal containers themselves are yet another collection.
White Hobnail Bud Vases:
I also collect vintage white hobnail bud vases. Sometimes I display them in the open kitchen cabinets along with my red transfer ware. I don’t have many yet, but I’ll keep my eye peeled for more.
For me it’s almost as much fun to figure out a way to display a collection as it is to create one over time.
There are so many ways you can put your collections on display. Check Pinterest or Instagram.
Play around with your collection by putting them in various places and living with it for a day or two. Maybe only display a few at a time.
Curated collections have so much personality! I love how you put the white hobnail vases amongst the red and white dishes.
Always love to see collections!
Have you considered instead of temporary wallpaper making the background you want to highlight easily changeable with fabric? You could get white foam board ($1.25 each at the Dollar Tree store) and cut it to fit the area. Cover the foam board with fabric you like by taping or stapling it to the back. Push your now covered foam board in place and set your display pieces in front. You could them change the background whenever you wanted a whole new look. The fabric could be repurposed in the future.
That’s certainly a lot of lovely collections. I have a pretty curio cabinet I use to display my pretties. I was quite impressed with the rolling pins mounted on the board and leaned against a wall. I never would have thought to do that. I like your temporary wall paper idea.
