I just adore this pretty blue back splash.

Have you ever heard of Polyvore? You can create clothing sets and collections and it's a lot of fun. I've just been dabbling with it to learn what all there is to do and how to do it.

Tips To Give Your Home A Budget Facelift

Guest blogger Korie Cantor has written this post...

Vintage-House-41.jpg

Giving a facelift to a small house is one of the most challenging tasks a homeowner has to take on, especially if you love the vintage look. There are many things to be considered – how to organize the small space to provide the maximum storage space, how to make the space look fresh and airy.

Where I Get Kindle eBooks Free

My daughter gave me a book I really wanted to read. One night last week I got it out, turned on the lamp next to my bed, and opened the book up.

But it's just too hot in here that late in the day with the lamp light on. So I turned it back off and got my back-lit Kindle that I keep next to the bed.

Fine Print 7/26/16

(This is a series I'm calling Fine Print, where I will tell stories and reflect on life.)

These days there are crickets getting into the apartment from the patio. They jump along the floor while I hurry to catch them before Charlie sees one and freaks out.

I gently scoop them and set them free out on the patio.

Tips On Styling Bookshelves

I always find it interesting how people choose to style their bookshelves.

Here are a few ideas for styling your shelves...

Morning Reflections

This morning I sit here with my coffee, the pupsters asleep on the chair ottoman, and think about my Saturday.

I will go to lunch with my daughter and Andrew soon. I am taking some seedless grapes for him.

He will be the highlight of my day.

I stare out the patio doors at the tree branches hovering over the gazebo top, shadows that dance in the wind.

I didn't think that my moon flower seeds had taken hold.

But just before dusk the other day, there in front of me was a dazzlingly beautiful white flower.

A surprise that made me smile.

(Before dark, as the flower is opening up)

It will be stunning in the moonlight.

This caught my eye. The piece of furniture with shelves behind it serves as a perfect backdrop for this interesting chair.

How I Use Baskets In My Apartment

Baskets are a great way to store things in any room. I have baskets in every room in my apartment. I'll show you a few ways I use baskets.

Clever Kitchen Organization Tips

I'm always interested to see how people corral things in their kitchen to keep things organized. Here are some of my favorites.

And The Sky Didn't Fall

I used to be a worry wart.

It seemed that worry crept into my thoughts like a mouse through the tiniest of holes.

I was so hard on myself. If something went wrong, it had to be my fault.

So What Clothing Did I Break Down & Buy?

Last Wednesday marked the first time in over five years that I stepped into a store and actually tried clothing on.

I chose to go into Marshalls.

I'd always just walked right past the women's clothing on my way to the back where the home decor is without a sideways glance.

But that day, I told myself it was time to dip my toes into the water and check back into the world of fashion.

No End To Violence: The Chain Of Events

Timeline of recent events of police shootings tied to racial tension in the United States:

July 17, 2016At least three police officers were shot dead in Baton Rouge on Sunday morning as they were responding to a call about a man with a gun.

The incident is the nation’s fourth high-profile deadly encounter involving police in the last two weeks.
A man identified as Gavin Long, Kansas City, went on a shooting rampage on what was his 29th birthday. Long was a former Marine who was discharged in 2010 after five years of military service, including a year in Iraq.

Where To Put The TV In Small Living Spaces Or Apartments

For those of you who reside in apartments, like me, or other small space homes, you know that space is at a premium.

For those of us who have a TV, we ultimately run into the problem of where on earth to put it so that it doesn't overpower our living space.

Here are some apartments that give you ideas on where to put it.

Patio Garden Update

Summer is in full swing in Oklahoma. Which means hot and humid.

So here's what is going on in the patio gardens...

Frugal Tips For Shopping Antique Malls And Thrift Stores

Lately I've been getting out almost every day, despite the heat. My ankle has been doing well and I'm not wearing the boot. Haven't been for about 3-4 weeks now.

So yesterday I was drawn back to my favorite antique mall in Jenks, just a few miles down the road.

Simple Details

By getting glimpses into someone's home, you see traces of their personality.

I found the two framed chicken pictures in Jenks awhile back.

The Ambiance Of Candles

I have always loved candles. That cozy feeling they lend to a home when lit and filling the room with a sweet scent just can't be beat.

A candle instantly changes my mood.

Here's a box of candles I've embellished a bit...

Here's another grouping of candles in my home.

The Day That Fashion Passed Me By

I distinctly remember when I felt that fashion was, essentially, passing me by.

I was living in East Texas and one of my favorite stores was Coldwater Creek. I was so excited when they came to town. I'd been shopping from their site for years.

Then one day I walked in and strolled down the aisles. And not one thing appealed to me.

I recall getting the attention of a sales clerk, (the place was all but empty), and I asked her what had happened to all the pretty clothes they used to sell.

She explained to me that the company was trying to get the attention of the "thirties and under woman" and had restructured their clothing lines. Or something to that effect.

I remember telling her that when I was under 30, I didn't have the money to shop in their kind of store. And when I was over 40 and could afford it, they no longer had one item of clothing that appealed to me.

With that, I walked out of the store, never to return.

Protrero Hill Apartment

I love to see how people make small apartments work for them. Here's Melanie's 500 square foot apartment in San Francisco.

Clearly the person living here cares more about plants and books than furniture.

What a gorgeous piece of furniture. And it hasn't been painted!

So Which Phone Did I Purchase?

All of your comments were immensely helpful.

I also asked about phones on Facebook groups I'm in, and I got a lot of feedback from there as well.

So for my first smart phone I got a Samsung Galaxy J3. If I'd had lots of money, I would maybe have gone for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

A Pretty Gift & A Horse Painting

Jacki from Primitive Star Quilt Shop emailed me last week. They have added farmhouse wares to their shop in Indiana. She wanted to know if I wanted to choose something (Thanks, Jacki!)

If you will remember, this is the place where I've ordered all my red and white buffalo check curtains, along with other stuff in their shop.

I just happened to find them a few years ago when I googled red and white buffalo check curtains, and we've established a friendship over the miles.

Here's what I chose:

Cell/Smart Phone Survey...

I'm contemplating finally getting a smart phone (I know, another one of my "said I never would" statements that is coming back to bite me in the butt.)

Seven Things To Do With Jars

We throw them in the trash every day. Jars. We buy spaghetti sauce in them. Pickles. A variety of our foods can be purchased in jars.

And who doesn't love mason jars? We can do so many things with them.

Here are some great ideas...

Tweak It Tuesday #200

I have decided to retire Tweak It Tuesday. Today marks 200 weeks that I have had this link party. And as I was doing the features for this week, I just decided that this was a good place to stop.

There are oodles of link parties out there. So you won't have any problem finding any to link to.

I appreciate all of your support over the past few years.

Now, for the last Tweak It Tuesday...

An Apartment Decorated In Farmhouse Style

This is proof positive that you don't have to live in the country to decorate successfully with farmhouse style. This is Nick & Spiro's city farmhouse in a generic 1100 square foot apartment...

I just adore her farmhouse-inspired home.
