Tips On Styling Bookshelves

I always find it interesting how people choose to style their bookshelves.

Here are a few ideas for styling your shelves...

Draw The Eye

Stack books both horizontally and vertically for interest.

A Certain Theme

The bookshelf above uses a theme - nautical decor.

Perhaps sea shells can be gathered from vacations, and are mementos you may wish to display so you can revisit the memories.

 A Time & Place

You might choose vintage collectibles to showcase on your shelves, or an eclectic combination of things.

Some decorators like to turn the books around so that the spine is not seen. The above shelves uses neutral colors mixed with green.

***

The most important thing is not to make your shelves look too cluttered. Showcase the things that are most important to you.

Rotate your collections by holiday or season.

Bookshelves serve as both storage and decor. Add and edit until your shelves look balanced and pleasing to the eye.

  2. Styling shelves can be tricky. There are some good ideas here. I prefer to keep my shelves fairly minimal and don't often combine books with other accessories...kind of like not wanting my food to touch on the plate as a child, hahaha. I guess I'm a purist :)

  3. I used to love working on my shelves. Now I don't have any bookcases at the new house...and our books are still boxed. Would love some new bookcases, but I have no space. Ha!

  5. I'm so looking forward to the day when we get around to building bookshelves in at the top of our stairs and while I want them to be lovely, more than anything I just want to be able to see all of my books in one place after a 6 year break from having bookshelves. I never understand when I see backward books on shelves. I always think those are obviously people who don't really love their books or read them!

  9. I have a whole wall in my little living room covered by a big bookcase. A small TV is on my bookcase surrounded by my many colorful books. I also use one shelf for seasonal decor.
