Creative DIY Team Project #4

This is segment four of our Creative DIY team's monthly projects.

This month we're featuring anything fall. That would be me, Cristina, Cassie & Susan.

Fine Print 8/30/16: Love & Other Memories

The other day I was looking for something in one of my closets and came upon a green duffel bag. I thought I knew what was in it. But I didn't know all that was in it.

The first thing that fell out was a letter from my ex-husband before we were married. When we didn't even live in the same state.

At the end of a letter, he would write: "I'll love you till the day I die."

I've really gotta try this stuff!

Around My Apartment

I have added some pears to the coffee table, a touch of green that I like there.

New Wall Detail In The Living Room

Limitless Walls was kind enough to send me enough removable wallpaper to put up on the wall behind my couch in my living room.

On The Pathway To Fall

Just a bit ago I heard the male cardinal call out for his mate.

He sings so sweetly to her. His red coat shines in the sunlight. How can she resist him? She comes flying in to perch beside him.

I raise my camera, but suddenly they're both gone in a whoosh of wings. Their chemistry has cued them to move as one.

Best Fall Desserts To Swoon Over

The evenings are actually already getting a bit cooler, I have noticed as I let the dogs out in the middle of the night.

For some reason my appetite picks up then. I am dreaming of fall food and treats!

Fine Print: My People

These are my people.

Copied photos a stranger was kind enough to send me five or six years ago, so that I would know something of my father's side of the family.

How Small Space Living Can Increase Productivity

I can't imagine going back in time and living in a large house again. I look back and wonder how on earth I got it all done. Well, I had a housekeeper come in twice a month, that's how it got done.

But that was years ago.

I watch the videos on YouTube of small space dwellers in NYC living in 200-300 square feet, and they seem quite content. Of course they are typically single with perhaps a pet.

But when you think about it, small space living means less maintenance because there's simply...less of everything. Therefore there's less to do! Doesn't take much sense to figure that out.

Definition of productivity:

the quality, state, or fact of being able to generate, create, enhance, or bring
forth goods and services.
So, in essence the less you have to deal with, the more you can possibly get done. Less space equals less to do which frees your time up to do more of what you'd rather be doing.

Cold Smoothies For Hot Summer Days

Now is the time when I am craving cool beverages. So I went online looking for smoothies.

This is from Coffee & Quinoa. And it's a coffee banana breakfast smoothie. Yum!

Java Talk: Are You Suffering From Hair Loss?

A reader wrote to me recently and asked if I'd put hair loss out there for discussion. I told her I would.

Fine Print: Are You Settling For Less Than You Deserve?

It occurred to me some years ago that I was not getting what I wanted out of relationships. It took me awhile to figure out why that was.

Light bulb moment: It's because I wasn't demanding more from them. I was settling for less because I didn't feel that I deserved more.

Dreary Dog Days Of Summer

August is a month when nothing much matters but the heat index.

It's what people talk about in passing in the supermarket, relishing the cold air conditioning before they sweat their way to the car with their purchases.

Is that why they call it the dog days of summer?

Best Ways To Create A Home Office In Small Spaces

Here is a small space office in an apartment using mid-century furnishings. They are using the corner of a room, but the space they've carved out is quite efficient.

6 Very Different Gallery Walls That Rock

I love the concept of gallery walls. Themed gallery walls, eclectic gallery walls. It's all good as long as it doesn't look too cluttered.

Here are six of my favorites by various talented bloggers.

Disappointment: Best Ways To Deal With It

We've all been there. Numerous times. Disappointment has affected all of us.

We feel impacted, lessened, that the situation is out of our control.

I think that's the worst part of disappointment: that we don't feel like we are in control. And when we don't feel in control, we feel very, very vulnerable.

People tell you to keep your chin up; get over it. But sometimes you just need to "feel" it for a little while first.

Then you have to move past it.

Here are some strategies for dealing with disappointment...

5 Easy Crock Pot Meals For Hot Summer Days

No one wants to slave away in a hot kitchen in the summertime. Certainly not me.

The other day I made this crock pot recipe that I found on Pinterest.

Fine Print 8/9/16: The Year I Was Pen Pals With A Serial Killer

It sounds quite odd, I know. Why would I be corresponding with a serial killer who had committed violent crimes most of his life?

I would never have thought of myself being in that unenviable position. But that's what happened.

How To Bring Charm To Your Rental

I live in an apartment, so I know the common refrain: The blinds are ugly. The bathroom is butt ugly. The appliances are tacky. And it's just so damned generic.

Well, put your creative thinking cap on and let's figure out ways to do something about it!

How I Make Mornings Manageable

This is a sponsored post by Wayfair...

Mornings are rather quiet here at my patio apartment. My Yorkies, Abi and Charlie, are here of course. And my friend Israel usually joins me for coffee.

Six Fall Crafts To Make

I know it's just August, and it sure is hot and miserable outside. But that's when my mind goes to making things for fall.

I want to get out my craft supplies and go to town! I've found some cute fall crafts for you to choose from.

Confessions Of A Plate Addict

Fine Print 8/2/16

My first home as an 18 year old was a $900 trailer from the sixties. It had two small bedrooms. It was rundown and needed a lot of work.

Someone gave me an old gold couch, and I recall that I moved that horrid thing around many times trying to decorate that place.

But it was a losing battle, because you just can't do much with "ugly."

Still, I dusted and cleaned as if it was a mansion instead of a decrepit little trailer house.

Tips For Small Space Living Arrangements

Just because you may live in a small home does not mean that you can't create a beautiful home for yourself that lives large.
