  1. I recently finished The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh the story of a baby girl orphaned and how she finally learned to love and trust…Told in the present and past it also teaches a bit about the old Victorian Language of Flowers…You might enjoy it Brenda..I just started News of the World by Paulette Jiles which I recently won online from Harper Collins Publishers…to soon to tale you how I like it! I haven't read either of the books you have..

  2. Oooooo, I read Girl on A Train. Totally different than the book with THE in the title. I got hook recently on WW II books, The Nightengale, The Book Theif and All the Light We Cannot See. I love your book suggestions. I just finished Someone is watching. Didn't see that ending coming. Oh and I am now reading The Light Between Oceans. I am usually a John Grisham fan. Oh I could go on. Thank you.

  3. I read every night and the best book I have read recently was Downfall by J. A. Jance. Could not wait to see what would happen next or how it would end. Read The Girl on the Train but it was a struggle. Did not like the characters and it just drug on for me.

  4. I didn't read Girl on the Train because I can't handle suspenseful books like that. Hubby read it and loved it. Just got Lilac Girls from the library. Am going to start it this weekend. No e-reader for me! 😉

  5. I read 'Girl on the Train' and really liked it. I would love to read 'The Woman in Cabin 10". I'm like you I read in bed every night. I love it and yes it transports me to far away places. I love my Kindle but will always love a real book also. Hugs!

  6. Hi,Brenda! One of my favorites this past year is A MAN CALLED OVE. He is quirky ,but so lovable! I read GIRL on the TRAIN because I thought the premise sounded fascinating. It was a disappointment through and through.Did not care about any of the characters. Have you read Barbara Kingsolver's THE BEAN TREE,PIGS IN HEAVEN or PRODIGAL SUMMER? I"m a kindred spirit when it comes to living in cozy spaces and loving books. xo

  7. I would like to insert a little hint for your blog followers who have children or grandchildren who are looking or will soon be looking for jobs. I just read an article about job interviews which gave questions that probably will be asked in an interview. One that surprised me is, "What books are you now reading or have just read?" So this is a word to the wise when I suggest you help your job-seeking relatives by leading them toward good books.

  8. When I was a child, my parents used the tactic of getting us to go to bed by telling us we could read for a half hour before turning out the lights. Nothing was cozier than curling up in bed with a book, and it's a behavior I've continued all through my life. Thank goodness my husband also loves to read after we go to bed — but nowadays we laugh because we usually both fall asleep and the books hit our noses. We don't have Kindles. We go to the library or find books at thrift stores. My husband reads how-to books and histories. He loves magazines on his hobbies, keeps them and reads them over again. I read everything from cookbooks to romances to classics. I'm never up to date on bestsellers because I'm always trying to catch up on something I meant to read long ago. Right now I am reading "The Chosen," by Chaim Potok, which came out in 1967. It's the story of two Jewish boys growing up in Brooklyn during the World War II years. Well worth reading for its messages on faith, fathers and sons, friendship, and how world events affect our personal lives.

  9. I love reading and usually have several books going at once. There are several stacks in the house. I too like my Kindle at night because it's backlit and if I fall asleep, it shuts itself off. 1 book I've read recently and enjoyed was The Boston Girl by Anita Diamant. Not my normal genre, but I really enjoyed it.

  10. I loved "Girl on the train"! I just finished reading "Olive Kitteridge" by Elizabeth Strout. Have you read it? Sooo good!

  11. I read and write all day at work – wish I had the motivation to read (for pleasure) at night…I have the "new" Harry Potter waiting for me…all in good time.

  12. Hi Brenda,
I read "The Girl on the train" a few months ago and I loved it. I could'nt
imagine my live without books and … my 2 cats ! The first time I went to
a library I was 10 and I am now 68. I still go to libraries (we are really
spoiled here in my town in France) and I often buy some. As for you, I can't understand people who don't read. One author I love very much is
Peter May. He is Scottish but he is now living in France. His Trilogy (the
action take place in the Isle of Harris, Scotland) is on the top of my
favorites. Of course, I read them in French ! I hope you can understand
    my English !
    Have a nice day.
    Annick

  13. I'm looking forward to the movie of Girl on the Train. I thought the book was hard to follow with all the names and time line perspectives. Also read Woman in Cabin 10, really good! I've been reading Liane Moriarty so much I now have an Aussie accent! ha

  14. Right now, the books I wanna read are collecting dust on our bookshelves and I really do hope someday, one day, I will have the time to do so. I have read a few books this year but not as many as I want to. And this one is on my list for sure! Thanks for the review!

  15. I love to read, but I don't watch the movies that are made of them. I am a book addict. If I have them in the house, I won't go to bed until I've finished reading them. This week a favorite was Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben.
