New Books & Second Closet Finished

I just received these books from Harper Collins for review. Here is a synopsis of each from Amazon.com.

The Bones by Faye Kellerman: Release date February 28/Available for pre-order.

In this thrilling chapter in Faye Kellerman’s bestselling series, Rina Lazarus makes a shocking discovery in the woods of her upstate New York community that leads her husband, police detective Peter Decker, through a series of gruesome, decades old, unsolved murders, pointing to a diabolical, serial killer who’s been hiding in plain sight.

Mississippi Blood by Greg Iles: Release date March 21/Available for pre-order.

The endgame is at hand for Penn Cage, his family, and the enemies bent on destroying them in this revelatory volume in the epic trilogy set in modern-day Natchez, Mississippi—Greg Iles’s epic tale of love and honor, hatred and revenge that explores how the sins of the past continue to haunt the present.

The Drifter by Christine Lennon: Release date February 21/Available for pre-order.

Megan Abbott meets M.O. Walsh in Christine Lennon's compelling debut novel about a group of friends on the cusp of graduating from college when their lives are irrevocably changed by a brutal act of violence.

The Almost Sister by Joshilyn Jackson: Release date July 11/Available for pre-order.

This book does not yet have a synopsis online.

I'm still reading and enjoying the second in the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith/JK Rowling.

When my daughter finishes with the third book in this series, she'll give it to me to read.

Now, the second walk-in closet in my bedroom. I worked on it yesterday and it is finished.

I purged a lot of things that are now in the backseat of my car to donate next time I'm out. I also gave some things to the maintenance man and some to the complex manager.

I went through the second plastic bin of Christmas stuff and managed to get two bins down to one, so that was an accomplishment. Now I have one fall bin, and one Christmas bin.

I also purged clothing again, though I just did that last month, to donate.

I don't really have a lot else to do in this apartment right now. I really need to get the patio cleaned up, but it's pretty cold right now.

Since I don't use my kitchen cabinets, I have everything streamlined in my dining space in stand alone furniture. I keep that fairly organized.

For instance I don't have a pantry here, so I use a small one I found last year. It really isn't big enough to let get too out of hand.

I keep K-cups for my Keurig in drawers in my living room. So don't discount that you must put kitchen things in the kitchen.

If you live in a small space, get creative.

For instance I have kitchen dish towels in the bottom drawer of my dresser in the bedroom.

As long as you keep things organized and know where you put things, it doesn't much matter where, I've learned.

I came across this photo I took of Israel. I think it was back in September on his 50th birthday.

He loves cheesecake, so I found a Bavarian Cakery that was supposed to have great cheesecake and got him one.

Cold temperatures this week. Oklahoma weather is quite strange. One day I'm wearing shorts. Another I may be bundled up.

One day the air conditioning is running, the next might be the heater.

I've learned not to anticipate the weather to be what the season dictates!

  1. Those books sound great, of course I'm drawn to the one that happens in upstate NY....hopefully not in my backyard, ha ha! Closet looks great, Brenda - I need to sort out my master closet, I have far too many things I never wear.

    1. That's sure true! The more house I've had in my life, the more I've managed to fill it up.

  5. You've probably said before, but I don't remember--why don't you use your kitchen cabinets?

    1. Do you not use them for anything...not even non-food things? Mice are truly a menace.

  6. Looks great! What did you do with the paint cans and quilts?

I am focusing on designing a Valentines window display for a lady here in town. We are talking about a "travel France" theme. Her mother gave her a hugh old steamer trunk which we are going to use a the main focus and a table with a lace tablecloth with a teapot, cups, saucers, a vase of roses, a couple of red candles, a box of Valentine chocolates, a passport, and tickets to France. My foster daughter is going to draw a large picture of the Eiffel tower for a backdrop. We will light the window with red and white twinkle lights and put rose petals on the floor. I am so excitied. Finally, something to do and fun too.

    1. The paint cans are still in the closet. Most of the quilts are on the green vintage cart in my bedroom on the wall opposite my bed. Will have to take a pic.

  7. I need you to come help me sort clothes. problem is I've been several sizes in the last few years. I've recently lost some weight, I would have hated to given them all away. eeeck. And I spy a cool trunk in that closet, looks great!

    1. Yeah, I had that out as a coffee table a few times, that trunk. But it's looking shabby. Guess it needs painting again. But it's about to fall apart, so I'd better leave it be.

  8. So, I see you're getting Texas weather now! That is what is happening here, too.
The closets look great, Brenda. Only thing I would add is all white thick clothes hangers. That made a big difference in my closets. Walmart.

    1. I'm probably resting up for awhile now. It takes a lot out of me, even though I bring in my little plastic garden seat to do the lower stuff. If I didn't have that old thing, I'd never paint either!

  12. Good job on your second closet. What's helped me is--"pre-purging." I pick something up that I love in the store, but ask myself "where will I put this?" Usually where I put it is--back, and don't buy it.

    1. Great idea! I'm having to do the same thing, or stay out of stores. Last time I was in Target, I completely avoided that $1 spot!

  14. The second closet looks great! I took a bunch of stuff to Habitat for Humanity yesterday and did not go in the thrift to look. I'm downsizing I keep telling myself. It's cold and we are in the path of the big winter storm so it's home today and I'll work some more on my piles of junk! It will be a long process for me but I'm ready for it.

  15. Wow, super cold here in KY. Today I've been giving the kitchen a super clean. I'll start putting away Christmas decorations. I'll keep out some snowmen since we do have snow.

Why don't you use your kitchen cabinets? Are they too hard to reach? They can be hard to get to when you have to lean zcross the wider counter below, and it can be dangerous climbing a stool to get to them. Kitchen design can be pretty bad sometimes. It's good that you give yourself the freedom to find new storage solutions rather than sticking to what isn't really working for you just because it's how it's always been done.

  16. I live in a small house and have to be creative with space and what to put where. I'll be doing some closet purging myself this weekend. You've done a great job with your closets. I enjoyed your book reviews and will be buying The Bones....sounds intriguing and suspenseful! Our weather in Houston is freezing today...literally! Next weekend in the 80's!
