Storage Project For My Kitchen Wall
I just finished a storage project for my kitchen wall in my apartment that makes use of vertical space.
As most of you know, I don’t use the kitchen drawers or cabinets in my apartment for various reasons.
Instead I use free standing furniture and vertical storage.
How I Created Vertical Storage In My Kitchen:
Vertical storage is vital for those living in a small space home. I implement vertical storage in every way that I can.
For the first project, I chose one of my old vintage washboards as well as a wood herb box. This herb box has a hook at the top of it to use for hanging.
I put both the washboard and the box on the floor and tapped a nail into the washboard. Then I hung the steel hook of the box onto the washboard.
I use the herb box to store frequently used kitchen items like Saran Wrap and aluminum foil.
Then I placed a couple of nails in the wall to hang the washboard, and hung the lip of the washboard over the nails.
I used poster putty behind each side of the herb box to hold it to the washboard. Then I did the same thing with the washboard hanging on the wall.
I was afraid I might cause my impromptu arrangement to fall when I reached up to get aluminum foil or Saran Wrap, etc. Thus the use of poster putty.
It was so easy and the task was accomplished in 5-10 minutes.
I have other washboards in my decorating arsenal. So I took one of the smaller ones and hung it on nails underneath the first one.
This corner of my kitchen is where my European style washer/dryer is located. So I felt it was appropriate to decorate the walls with washboards.
I use magnets to hold things on the washboard.
Where I Store Measuring Spoons:
Another way I use vertical storage is my kitchen is with this wooden cow. I put screw hooks into the cow and hung the cow on the wall.
This is where I keep measuring spoons.
I hung a black frame around the cow to make the placement of the cow look more cohesive.
How I Vertically Store Oven Mitts:
Since I don’t have a pantry, I store pantry items in this red cupboard that sits on top of a large rolling cart.
And next to that I hung this little red rooster decor with hooks where I now hang oven mitts.
All it took was a couple of nails in the red rooster to hang it on the wall next to the red cupboard.
How I Store Colanders & Other Utensils:
Somewhere along the line I picked up this rake part at an antique mall or garage sale. I spray painted it red and hung it on a nail on the wall.
It became a nifty little place to hang a colander and other kitchen utensils.
All of the above photos show you ways I implement vertical storage in my kitchen. You just have to think outside of the box to find ways to create storage where you don’t have it.
Use what you have and upcycle objects to hang on your wall to create vertical storage. It’s fun and you’ll enjoy being creative.
Your kitchen is darling and I love all the creative ways you have to store things. I myself live in a small cottage (compared to most bloggers) and I tend to use decorative stuff to store things as well. Like my decorative teapot on my window sill also holds my coffee filters…
Once in a while, I have the same problem as Butterfly 8)(8. No matter what I try, I cannot access Comments. But I do enjoy your blog.
I really like how you have the kitchen tools hanging from the rake. If the mice are gone, why don't you keep things in your cabinets anymore?
You have such neat ideas, Brenda. I share many of them with my daughter who likes your style, too. Now I'm off to check out the chicken and dressing recipe!
I am always inspired when I see what you do with your small space. It's all so clever!
You create the neatest ways to store things. I enjoy reading your blog each day to see what you have done. Thanks for sharing all your ideas.
Great storage solutions. I love Marty. It's fun watching the progress on her new house.
I like all your vertical storage ideas. Great use of space done in a creative and visually appealing way. Love your profile picture, Brenda. Very pretty.
I don't put anything in them.
Hi Brenda
I enjoy your blog and look forward to it everyday. Just curious since you don't use your cabinets for food and dish storage. What do you put in them if anything?
Thanks!
LaDonna
What wonderful ideas and they look great in your home!
You are so creative in your decorating and finding great storage in small places.
Your home is so cozy and makes a person feel so relaxed and welcome. You are so creative in your storage solutions, I get great ideas from you all the time.
You always amaze me with all the inventive ways you find to store your kitchen necessities and they are all so cute too. Thanks for the shout out, that chicken and dressing really is so good. I think I need to put that on my list to cook this week too.
Hi, Brenda. The rake and the cookie cutter cow hanging system are really cute as well as functional. I use one tiny finishing nail to keep pictures in their place, but putty is good when home is a rental. I find it really hard to find your comment section. It has happened twice now. xoxo Su
Hm. Well, you just click Read More and go all the way down till you see it. Sorry!
Hi Brenda! Oh, I love the little wash boards, my little mother always called them 'rub boards'. That's a great idea and the little cow under the frame – darling! Hope you're doing well.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉
