Do you know how to clean your Cuisinart coffee maker correctly?
If you follow the instructions, you will keep your Cuisinart coffee maker in good condition and making great coffee for years.
If coffee made in your Cuisinart coffee maker isn’t tasting as good as usual, it’s probably time to clean your machine.
Why Coffee Suddenly Tastes Bad:
Coffee grounds leave behind oils that cling to the brewing basket. Once the oil turns rancid, it affects the flavor.
Mineral scale should also be cleaned off. It forms due to the water that builds up inside the coffee maker.
Descaling, removing calcium and other water minerals will keep your machine in good working order.
Coffee will taste much better if you routinely take the time to properly clean it.
What You Will Need To Clean Your Coffee Maker:
- White vinegar
- Water
- Sponge or dish cloth
- Dry dish towel
How To Clean The Cuisinart Coffee Maker:
- Fill the carafe with half white vinegar and half water
- Turn on the coffee maker and brew a pot of coffee
- After the coffee brews, turn the coffee maker off
- Let the remainder of the coffee sit in the carafe for one hour
- Run water through the coffee maker to remove the vinegar smell
How Often To Clean a Cuisinart Coffee Maker:
Before you make your first pot of coffee in a new machine, run a cleaning cycle to remove any residue trapped inside during the production of your coffee maker.
Every time you brew coffee, the coffee grounds should be removed and the brew basket should be wiped out with a damp cloth. The carafe should be washed after every use.
Clean the Coffee Maker after Every Use:
- Discard coffee grounds and filter
- Dump any remaining coffee and clean the glass carafe
- Rinse well and dry with a lint-free dry cloth
How to Deep Clean a Cuisinart Coffee Maker:
Before deep cleaning the coffee maker, unplug the unit before removing components.
- Remove and discard the paper filter and ground coffee
- Wash the filter basket in warm, soapy water or place it on the upper rack of the dishwasher
- Rinse the basket well
- Dry with a lint-free clean cloth
Wipe the area under the brew basket with a damp cloth to capture any loose coffee grounds.
Clean the Brew Basket:
- Lift the coffeemaker lid and remove and discard the paper filter and ground coffee
- Wash the filter basket in warm, soapy water
- Rinse the basket well
- Dry with a lint-free dry cloth
- Wipe the area under the brew basket with a damp cloth or paper towel
Clean the Glass Carafe:
- Wash the carafe and lid in warm soapy water
- Rinse well and dry with a clean cloth.
WARNING: Do not use harsh scouring powders or scrubbing brushes in the carafe. This can cause scratches on the glass carafe.
Clean the Cuisinart Base Unit:
- Use a damp cloth to remove any stains on the controls and base of the coffee maker
- Dry with a clean cloth
Removing Stains From a Cuisinart Coffee Maker:
If you have stains remaining in your glass carafe, try filling the carafe half full with very hot water and half distilled white vinegar.
Allow the solution to soak in the carafe for at least 30 minutes and then wash in warm, soapy water. Be sure to reach all of the interior surfaces.
You can also fill the carafe with hot water and add a denture cleaning tablet. Soak for at least 30 minutes and then wash well in warm, soapy water.
When you take these steps on a regular basis, you coffee will always taste robust and flavorful.
While other coffee makers have stopped working, my Cuisinart has been around for about 10 years and still makes great coffee.
Changing The Water Filter:
The manufacturer also recommends changing the water filter after 60 uses and after completing the descaling process.
Refer to your user guide or Cuisinart’s website for the type of filter and where it can be purchased.
WARNING: Never submerge the coffee maker base unit in water.
This is very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Perfect fit! for someone like me who's fascination is reading blogs . I can mostly relate . Keep sending them please
Coffee stains and burned on coffee in glass carafes can be removed by putting ice cubes in the carafe and swirling them around in it, holding the carafe by the handle. I use a paper clip to clean out the needle in the Keurig that pierces the K cup.
That is how I clean my Cuisinart coffeemaker, perhaps I should do it more often though. My Keureg has never been cleaned, mine does not have the water reservoir. I have that extra cup for the Keureg that a person can use any coffee in, but I don't like the coffee that it makes with it, despite the fact that we grind our own Starbuck beans even. We love Tim Hortons dark roast pods.
I always use vinegar/water to clean my coffee pot. My pot shows me when I need to clean it, takes the guess work out. I didn't realize that when I bought it, but one morning I saw a light glowing that said clean. So I obeyed.
Hi Brenda, you can buy a reusable pod at Target etc. and use whatever coffee you want. They are around $13. You can also buy mini filters $3.00 for 50. Love your blog!
Beside vinegar is wonderful for your sink drains. I had a plumber friend years ago tell me to only use vinegar & baking soda for my drains. That is what I always do too. I put about 1/2 cup of baking soda in each drain, then heat about two cups of vinegar in the micro, dump it down & watch it work. using the vinegar cold works too, but heating it up gives it an extra boost. Have a great week end Brenda…
Oh good grief. This reminds me of how much I need to clean mine. ugh!!!!
Vinegar is the best to clean just about anything. I try to clean our coffee pot about once a month. You have a great day
forgot to mention – you can also buy a small cup for your Keurig in the coffee isle, you just fill it with your coffee and dump the grounds when finished and wash it out.
did you know you can buy small boxes of K-cups at places like TJ Max, Marshalls, Tuesday Morning all of those discount places usually have a "kitchen" area and sometimes have the boxes at a discounted rate. I do not have a coffee pot that uses them but my sister does and I noticed this when I went shopping with her
